  • OMG they still use carburators and EU and japan use multipunct EFI :))).dog americans are so stiff when it comes to cars :))))they know shit

  • Better delete electric choke , and instal an manual .. for better gas milage in the summer .

  • The arm I am talking about is the one that has the idle screw on it.

  • So I was watching this video and had a question. Says in most cases the fast idle on electric choke is good without adjustment. Does this mean I could remove this arm from my carb? Having an issue with the arm clearing my manafold and could could use the space

  • @BoogdieB The fast idle cam is the red elbow shaped arm below the choke housing.

It is automatically tuned to time out the opening of the choke plate during fast idle or curb idle.

You could remove the arm if you want but would render the function of the choke housing useless.

As long as you loosen the three screws on the choke cover and dial the choke plate all the way open while the engine is cold, you shouldn't affect the performance of the carb by removing the fast idle choke cam

  • I've only got one thing to say, "EDELBROCK"

  • @jazzmember4life We used to play around with other brands of carbs, then we began tuning the Holley correctly. We would never go back to the tuning limitations of any other brand of carb. The tuning possibilities of Holley are way more detailed allowing better customization...once you know how to correctly finesse the various circuits, which is why we produced the 2 hour DVD that this short clip comes from.

  • what are the pros and cons forusing a super coil?

  • @srvforme a larger, modern coil will give you much stronger spark and will allow you to burn the entire mixture introduced to the cylinder during intake.

If you have an older 'points' style ignition, you'll definitely see an improvement in efficiency and dependability if you update the ignition and coil to electronic spark and stronger coil

  • @FroopieLoopies We hear that from people that don't know how to tune Holley's.

That opinion is why we made the Holley Tuning and Install DVD. If you watch it...you won't hate on Holley anymore...lot's of fine tuning ability when you know what you're doing.

  • good info me and my bro needed it. we were wrench monkeys for a while but its been about 10 years to do someithing like this which i done many times... ha ha

    mostermike

  • he kind of contradicts himself when he says to adjust the mixture screw until the vacum pressure is the highest without adjusting the idle speed screw then he says then go back and adjust the idle speed screw 4:08

  • I actually hooked up the vacuum advance to the port underneath the carb, where it was pulling a lot of vacuum and the car didn't break up between 3 and 4000, but it did miss one time at about 3200, With the vacuum advance plugged in on the side of the carb where the book says it should be it doesn't feel like it has any vacuum at idle or when its tached up. If this helps the 302 was rebuilt in 2001 and the carb was bought then also, and has only had 3000 miles put on it since then.

  • I have a street avenger 670 and im having missing around 2000 and when it gets 3000-4000 its really bad, but if I unplugg the vacuum advance its better, I've completely changed distributors so I know thats not my problem, any suggestions? thanks

  • What is the initial timing setting?

How about the power valve that is installed in the primary metering block at the moment? Do you know what "vacuum/inch" rating it is?

Is this carburetor a vacuum secondary model?

Does the "misfire" happen at pedal down full load or is it happening more at slight pedal pressure at a cruise speed under light engine load?

  • the initial timing is 10 degrees, it is vacuum secondaries and it misses a little while at cruising speed u can hear a popping in the exhaust, but not really bad. if you gradually accelerate it doesn't miss between 3 and 4000, but if you hold it wide open it breaks up really bad between 3 and 4000. I'm not sure about the power valve.

  • If you have an electric fuel pump, yes, you adjust the float level with the ignition key turned on and the pump flowing.

If you have a mechanical pump, you do the adjustment while the engine runs.

Both methods are covered very well in our two hour Holley carb DVD that this clip is taken from.

  • thanx

  • i dont get how to adjust the float level is the fuel pump on? or do you fill it up by hand and then adjust it ?any help is appreciated ,it would be a great vid to put up in detail

  • I have a Holley carb 600cc I need some help rebuilding this carb any good pointers.I all so have another carb that needs to be rebuilt in it a 600cc aluminal spread bored in a elderbrock 550cc can you help me

  • Our Holley DVD will make you very familiar with the internals and tuning methods for all Holley carbs.

We didn't cover specifics of rebuilding as Holley wanted to focus on Install and Tuning. However, a Holley rebuild, is very simple if you have the right rebuild kit and all the parts are cleaned prior to reassembly.

Our Holley DVD and a rebuild kit would be all you need to do the rebuild.

Thanks for checking out our vids...

  • Mistake the Elderbrock is a 600cc someone told me wrong on the carb

  • carb work is hard

i was gonna rebuild my carb on my bronco

but im just gonna buy i new one and take it to a mechanic.

    the hell with this

  • Compared to fuel injector replacement and custom tuning for performance, rebuilding a carb is actually pretty easy.

You just clean everything and then put it together with fresh gaskets and a few simply adjustable tuning components.

  • well maby for somebody who has been doing it for several decades but for someone like me who just rebuilds lawn mower carbs a 4 barrel holley is no joke

but at the same time id rather have a holly carb than fuel injection. i wish there was a way to convert....

  • very helpful!

  • I have a ford 302, that when i turn off the engine, it doesnt exactly turn off. It fires while off for about a second. I imagine fuel is getting into the cylinders after shut off. could i be running too rich? also when i accelerate under low rpm, it sometimes feels like its bogging or will miss.

  • Sounds more like you should take a look at your timing before considering just fuel.

Your initial timing may be set too far advanced. Check it with a timing gun at idle. Should be anywhere from 6 to 10 degrees. Initial timing of 12 or higher will start to give you issues in many cases.

  • you have engine run-on.

if you have electronic ignition you might have a ballast resister problem (not enough resistance). i had a similar issue not long ago. replacing my starter relay actually fixed it. I assume it was getting "lazy". this was on a '68 chrysler.

  • How high is your idle? If its set too high, the engine might be "dieseling". This usially starts to happen when idle is over 900-1000 rpms.

  • or a buggered carb, check that its operating properly not leaving the choke open a little

  • @stang1973 What kind of fuel are you using reg. or prem. Cause I have a 85 caprice with a crate 350 that I've been building and if I run anything but prem gas when I turn it off it like chitty chitty bang bang.

  • @wthompson1981 #1 whats the compression ratio ? high compression takes high octane fuel, but things like to fast curb idle, a plug heat range to high can cause diesel after run , Chevy had anti diesel selinoids starting in about 73 that when the ignition is turned off it alows the throtel plates to completly close ,eliminating the to fast idle after run, make sure the curb idle screw is back off enough to alow the plates to close and make idle speed adjustments on the selinoid .

  • Great Video, Thanks for posting

  • i have a 1966 428 ford thunderbird that im restoring, its not turning over i dont no if its not gettin gas or a bad fuel filter or pump, but i just put in new spark plugs, i dont now if the fuel pump is sapposed to make a sound when u turn the key but i didnt here anything.

  • after rebuilding my carb..this video was the perfect info i needed to set my idle..

  • a honda prelude dosent have a carb

  • @smittylilD LMAO!!!!! probably because its a little off topic and i hate honda

  • fuel injected.
