Christ it's depressing that 41 people agreed that objectifying wheelchair users equates to being a 'fucking legend'. What the fuck is wrong with people that they think that's clever? Jesus. Go and watch some proper comedy.
@benscothern1 Oh, I don't know. Comedy that tries, maybe? That isn't satisfied to wallow in cheap, lazy writing because there are enough ratings fodder who won't ask for anything better? Comedy that punches up instead of down? Comedy which pushes boundaries? Which says something? Which is clever, witty or - god forbid - funny? Any of those things will do. Life's Too Short fails on all counts,.
@cornwelllia "It's funny so fuck off" - no, you fuck off, you easily pleased drone. This is shit for the unquestioning, spoon fed masses. Slurp up, moron.
@kalifire I would respond to this stupidity but when it comes from the guy whose only original content on his youtube channel is cat videos I don't see the point.
@bobolishas Well, I think Gervais is funny. Karl doesn't have to be in EVERYTHING of us. Karl wasn't in The Office or Extras (Well he had a small cameo in Extras)
@MrSubsocial The guy who was interviewing them is called Richard Bacon, and he used to be a presenter of the kids show Blue Peter, which is a very well known and respected show that has been running since the 60's. But he was caught doing cocaine so he had to quit it. Now its kind of like a running gag that most comedians do whenever Richard Bacon is on their show, or vice versa.
He might have, except George RR Martin said in an interview that he'd actually envisioned Dinklage when he created the character, so it was never offered to anyone else.
@thewildone I find that a little hard to believe as Dinklage only broke through into the mainstream as an actor in 2003 in "The Station Agent". He was in a few flicks before that (in insubstantial roles for the most part) from about 1995, but GRRM started writing ASOIAF in 1991, and it was published in 1996. But hey, if that is what he says I guess he must have seen hims someplace and liked him.
To be fair to all three of them: During the interview they all had some "Charlie" backstage... Just check Gervais tongue movements while he mentions "Charlie"
@ch1mpanzeethat ..Its not really the Warwick Davis we all know and love they are depicting, they are just depicting a completely different Warwick Davis with a massive ego, attitude problem and chip on his shoulder and that is what is going to make it hilarious and that is why you are led to believe it will be hard for him to find work, comprende?
@Dungarth No comprende, because I can't seperate myself from the real, thoughtful intelligent man that Warwick is. Curb works because we didnt initially know that Larry David wasnt actually like that. Extras and The Office work because Brent and Millman are a part of Gervais that he can tap into at will. The celebrity cameos in Extras work because theyre short and sharp and take an aspect depicted in the media and twist it. Loveable Warwick playing arsehole Warwick won't work, for me.
@ch1mpanzeethat ...Its not meant to show Warwick playing an arsehole per se, in essence it is just supposed to highlight that side of people that they don't want seen by the public and in Warwick's case his public image is so positive that seeing the annoyed and irritated side of him will be bizzare. Btw Warwick played an out of character role in Extras and that went down a treat. Just remember that nobody lives with Warwick 24/7 to see him through all stages of emotions.
@Dungarth Good point. Warwick's comedy timing is fantastic anyway, the premise could be a good "what if" angle. Plus its good in this clip to see Merchant getting more of a look-in. We'll see how it goes.
This little mishap taken from FML made me regret that filming has ended already: "Today, I got junk punched by a midget in Sears for giving him "a funny look." I was trying to read the price of the fridge he was standing in front of. FML"
Looks awesome, can't wait till it comes out. Willow is one of the best movies I've ever seen. Also, one of the first movies that really got me into watching film.
The first time I see him, I'd be a little like, "What should I say? What shouldn't I say?" Whereas once you get to know him, I'm sure he'd be a lovely little fella.
@Furkin44 Thanks, but if you don't know a Karl Pilkington quote when you see it, may I suggest not wasting your time giving me a crash-course on how talk to other human beings?
First off I'm a big fan of Gervais/Smerch, but I'm worried this is gonna be weak though tbh. They said there wasn't gonna be any midget jokes but there were at least two in this one clip (I don't really care, I'm nt offended in the slightest, just saying...)
Gervais has bigged up a few projects since Extras ended, namely, Ghost Town and his Science Standup... both were total shit (imo). I'm just hoping this one turns out good, if not, I fear he may have lost it.
@futurez12 Of course his height will be mentioned. It's like saying that the Ian McKellen episode of extras was full of 'gay jokes'. At no point in that episode were the target of the jokes gay people. The humour came from social awkwardness, or people's reactions. It's the same here. I always rather thought Warwick would get the Tyrion Lannister part in "Game Of Thrones" (though I adore what Dinklage does with it)...
This show is very funny, though like all Merchant/Gervais productions, perhaps an aquired taste.
