Every so often U2 release something that is special and NO other band could come up with. This is one of the greatest songs they've ever done and from the first second to the last second it's a song that sends tingles down your spine.Truely amazing song from one of the greatest bands of all time and stands head and shoulders above most other songs.
Nowadays...music is only a matter of processing on a bloody software....only U2, Radiohead , Rammstein and some more bands still make great music after 2000 using only their talent !! this is real music !!
Hard to believe this is written from a view of a heroin addict reaching out for help, crashing, and about to face death. Very deep stuff here underneath it all!
@manconoo as a single, but that has nothing to do with the fact that it's on the critic's polls as one of the best songs in history...and it's a great song but, come on!!!
You've got to give Bono credit for singing like that, it's brilliant singing for his age. Such a brilliant song, in my opinion it's the best song from No Line On The Horizon!
In 02 / 10 @ Coimbra i saw Bono saying: "Let's turn this place into the Universe, turn your lights on" and then they played this awsome song... it was the best momment i had in one show in my hole life...it was suberb!
@Piotrek663 You don't understand real music. This song goes deep. What kind of music do you lissen? Ramnstein? Tokio Hotel? Justin Bieber? You're a loser, a real loser. Thinking this song is boring says a lot about you.
@Maarteuh96 I understand music 10 times better than you, and if you want check what i am listening to- my favourites will gladly answer your curiosity. U2 did some great music thou, but not this one.
@Piotrek663 Like I said, if you think this song is bad/boring, it says alot about you. So, tell me, what kind of music do you like? Black/Death metal? that kind of shit?
@Piotrek663 The harmonic progression of the song is very good, actually the arrangement could be better... It's too much eno-esque, and the drum is very poor: it seems a 20 euros drum machine!!!
I would have made one of these two: either a more radically rock-style arrangement or a very raw arrangement, i.e. with a piano and few other things.
This harmonic progression is very good, so both suggestions of mine would have been ok
I love this song , my art class teacher would play this song a lot and it would inspire my classmates and I do do better. Like it was a type of motivation. It would relax us and get us to work , really awesome song , i love everything about it
I thought this album was disappointing as a whole. But then again, Moment of surrender, magnificant and i'll go crazy if i dont go crazy tonight are great. The others were not soo good imo.
@Ctec07 at first I was going to say "no" but actually... The vocal approach to this song does kind of have a Jagger thing happening, in a great way.
I feel like Mick sort of digs deep in the vowels/enunciation if that makes sense, and that sort of happens here. Not that Bono's copying just that he is working in a similar creative space.
@Ctec07 I think it's just u man. They sound nothing like, and Bono can still sing, if you saw the super bowl halftime show with the rolling stones, they looked and sounded like rolling fossils.
@COSMICSMI2LE I totally disagree. I think most other songs had his influence, but not this so much. If you think a song should end up on the Unforgettable Fire CD, then it has Eno Influence...But I can't see this being on the Unforgettable Fire CD, but alot of other songs I can.
Today, instead of "your favourite band," now it's "your favourite computer", with all the bullsh1t computer-generated stuff everywhere.

This song is pure perfection! What a soul crushing song!
This is what is called real music in the midst of cr*p that plays on the radios and charts.
Listen to the lyrics closely and this song is completely heartbreaking.
Best U2 song ever since "One".
Darkest and most sarcastic U2 lyrics since "Love is blindness".
U2 forever!
