to lump the segegationist in the democratic party, at this time, as a unified block is like saying the republican party of today is a unified unit. it is fractured and devided as the dems were in the 40's and 50's. the southern block was conservative while the northern block liberal. the party came together in '64 on the civil rights bill cause of compromise...something the republicans still have never understood can be a powerful political alliance builder.
Sounds like the same string of broken promises of "change" that Obama promised and hasn't delievered because of his incredable ineptitude. Unemployment remains at ten percent because of his reckless spending which has caused the budget deficit to go upwards of 5 trillion dollars and thats just a conservative estimete!
Do you per chance remember which party the segregationists moved to after the greats in the civil rights movement—like Hubert Humphrey—took a stand against them? That's right: the Republican Party.
More Democrats voted for it than Republicans. Look up Southern Strategy buddy. Why do you think the Democratic Solid South became a Republican region? It shouldn't be too hard to figure out.
because of the cold war thts why every thing ws so high, ike a ww1 vet and a west point grad and supreme allied commander. stevenson uhhh well nothing
I agree! Like Regan in '84, Ike in '56 was pretty much unbeatable. Stevenson never had much of a chance, nor did Mondale, though both of those candidates had much to offer in their own way.

Even though I'm as liberal as they get, I'd still vote for Eisenhower.

When they say "the General" I keep thinking about car insurance..."For the best car rates in town call 1-800-GENERAL now!!"

OYY--ADLAI!!...and, hey, talk about how "moral" that Party was..
In '52..Stevenson's VP CHOICE was a staunch segregationist John Sparkman (D-ALA).
Of course, if you're on the left--you just simply skip over menial matters like that!
Eleanor Roosevelt said it best..while campaigning in Harlem w/ Stevenson in '52..
Adlai saw all of the black faces--got intimidated and said, "What the H _ _ _ am I to say to these people?"
Poor Eleanor remarked, "when I heard that, i knew we couldn't win."

Some WWI vet, Ike spent it's entirety stateside. In fact, if i'm not mistaken he's the only four-star general to have never seen combat.

Weak, not the way how to defeat a great president.

Nobody could have defeated Ike in 1952 or 1956
