@kingrex1002 Rolling Thunder is actually the title of the aerial bombing campaign employed by the U.S military during the conflict in Vietnam. Uncle Sam thought he could bomb Charlie into submission, didn't quite work out that way... Many planes were used during operation Rolling Thunder so it would be wrong to say it was a nickname given to the B-52.

Saw something almost identical to this at Carlswell Air Force Base a few years ago...very impressive and cool at the same time. The funny thing was that they had about 200 yards of the Pyro-gas set up between the actual runway and the taxiway. When the B-52 flew over with the simulated drop and everything went off...they set the grass on fire from one side to the other. The show was put on hold while the fire crew displayed their readiness. No danger to anyone, but it was funny. Thanks for this.

A more appropriate title would've gone under something like "B-52 pyrotechnic show/demonstration" or something to that effect. @bigglessy The fuel and maintenance costs for flying a B-52 for an hour is probably a LOT higher than that, so I doubt it's about cost. It's more that if something goes wrong there is a small risk of bombing the crowd, and this can't happen if you use buried charges :)
