  • If any series can revive the survival horror genre, it's this one.

  • This ship only prepared me for what was to come in Dead Space...

  • Great music for slowly drifting into death, stranded in space.

  • When I first saw the ship when I played the game I was reminded of Dead Space 2 (I played Dead Space before I played Metroid)

  • Best of the ship valhhalla is one of the rooms you pass by and find 2 marines. one that has failed the battery of Phazon and the other is what is eating the Phazon. There are also two pools of Phazon

  • That ship with necromorphs would be FUCKING amazing XD

  • @Tetrah1

I already shit my pants when I went through Valhalla. That would just be asking for it.

  • I always hated to go to Valhalla. Ironically I went there many times without a purpose.

  • this is like bioshock eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek

  • I was scared every second i was on that ship...

  • Our efforts to repel the Space Pirate boarding force have failed,They have successfully removed the primary mounting structure around our stasis tank.It is obvious now that they intend to extract us from the Valhalla. It is vital that the Federation receive this transmission.

    ...Severing main power...

A large bioform is creating a wormhole...

    ...Implant into...

Sentient planet which is the source of all Phazon. ...Darkness coming.........

  • @ZabrakS22 Because of you aurora unit not only is darkness coming but a huge dump is also coming

  • I thought Space Frigate Orpheon was scary. I was proven wrong.

This also ups the "oh-shit" moment for Metroid games. After entering that hallway area after the elevator where the Phazon Metroids jump through the window, I was wondering where they came from.

Then I looked outside and promptly had an "oh-shit" moment.

  • whenever i go into my basement this should start playing

  • Comment removed

  • (this music playing while im playing the level) okay now to open this door(door opens) AAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! HOLY SHIT!

i screamed because of a dead GF trooper behind the door disinergrated when the door opened, scared the shit out of me and always will.

  • @LSSTyranus That moment reminded me of Halo 1, where the dead marine falls down when you open the door. This is scarier though IMO, because you're actually still in control instead of a cutscene activating.

  • @Forrest031 personally, I was half-expecting all the corpses on that ship to turn into zombies or something. or samus turns around and comes face-to-face with something from Dead Space.

  • ugh..this was so eerier and creepy...and to hear the AUs last message nearly gave me a heart attack ._.

  • Reading the last message of 313 I was suddenly reminded of the keeper notes in the first resident evil . . . And anyone who's played it will appreciate the feelings of dread I felt.

  • @thepikapikaaa

    "Itchy. Tasty."

  • The AU 313's message... it's so glaucous. GFS Valhalla is an enormous place of the serie.

  • Dude... I played Dead Space after this. And the eerie halls of Ishimura are nothing compared to what the Valhalla had. ._.

  • I stopped playing this game to put on some upbeat music just to lower the creepy factor....how did I get led to this -__-

  • Now, imagine going through this level and having to fight the chozo ghosts from Prime 1.

  • Even though the series itself is not ment to be a horrer genre.... they could certainly pool it off if they tried... and if Retro Studios made it..

  • The Phazon Metroids living in this level didn't help at all.

  • @OldSkoolgamerz Depends on what you wanted them to help with. If you wanted them to make it less creepy, you have been to the wrong place;)

Anyway, I love this kind of atmospheric music. It makes you wonder wether something is going to appear out of nothing, or if it's going to appear out of you.

  • *walking through Valhalla*

    We're all gonna die.....we're all gonna die.... ;__;

    *Metroid breaks in*

    SSHHHHIIIITTTT!!!! D8

  • The Valhalla is easily the creepiest level. I was often reluctant to continue- the dark troopers from Echos were always in my thoughts while I was looking around.

  • when I was a kid metroid scared the fucking shit out of me

  • @ajonelag How can sexual intercoursing feces be scared out of you?

  • Two dislikers severed the main power...

Large bioform created them a wormhole...

The two dislikers implanted themselves into...

A sentient planet which is the source of all Phazon...

    Two dislikers...

    Darkness... coming.

  • I'd much rather have a zombie jump out at me as opposed to a phazon metroid...

  • Nintendo pretty much hit the nail on the head for a creepy, abandoned space setting. After seeing the Chozo statue come to life in Super Metroid, then the dead soldiers in Prime 2, I thought I'd seen the worst Metroid had to offer, but then I got to this place and was unfortunate enough to be playing in the dark.

  • I'm not looking forward to doing this part in hypermode difficulty

  • Screw Silent Hill, this place is so scary I waited until my buddies were with me before I even dared to play through it.

  • In Norse mythology, Valhalla (original meaning: 'hall of the slain') is ruled by Odin, the god of death and war. Soldiers who fall in battle are chosen by Odin taken to Valhalla. There they travel with the Valkyries to join the einherjar to fight alongside Odin during Ragnarok, the Norse apocalypse bringing about the death of the gods, the world, and humanity.

Pretty fitting I'd say. Awesome ambiance. And Norse mythology is so badass.

  • Still have flashbacks.

  • This is probably the most haunting place in the Prime series. Its kinda like a nightmare come to life. But I think Metroid Fusion has this game beat in the creepiness factor.

  • @BloodRogue0 Of course hehe. The pirates and so much modern creatures came to life in that one since that it's the last game in the series...well...in the storyline anyways. XD

I wonder if they will make any more that will take place after Fusion? After all it DID say 'See You Next Mission' on the end like most Metroid games say before an another game comes out that takes place after.

Anyways, yes. In Fusion the Pirates had better spookier technology built then.

  • @BloodRogue0 the second most haunting place is the Xenoresearch Lab 0_0

  • @InsomniacLegit YES!! for real i just went to that place yesterday. i was like oh damn!

  • @BloodRogue0

Agreed. Fusion has every game in the franchise beat in creepiness though.

  • I had a feeling that while I was Listening to the Message that I would get stabbed in the back by a Space Pirate

    .

And when I was thinking of this, the kitchen door was slowly opening and I could hear it squeaking. I was scared Shitless! Then my cat just ran through the door and it stopped opening.

  • After Prime, I was waiting for another horror area in the game to scare teh crap out of me......Echoes never had much of it.......I was about to be disappointed of Corruption

    Then I found this place.......

  • You know, dead space came with an ESRB warning with all the creepy stuff. MP3 took me by surprise... o_0!

  • This is why metroid could make the best horror game series to date.

  • When I first got to the Valhalla, I really got into it. Wherever I would go, I would walk real slow... Because you never know what might still be lurking around in a place like that... O_O

  • NEVER beats phazon mines level 3 on the scare-o-meter

  • @Bowser641119 I was always scared to go into the phazon mines cause I lacked gaming ability, and was stingy with my ammo and health. So I would freak the fuck out when a space pirate fell from the ceiling growling, "KA-CHOW!"

  • If you tought Dark Aether was scary, trust me on this one, *Valhalla is worse and it aint even a planet!* (<--my opinion the first time I played in Valhalla, now I love it xD)

  • Deffinately one of the most scary soundtracks and settings of the entire series.

  • @juan5557903 Thats what makes this game this best! They said fuck the ratings, we'll design this game how we feel!

  • Scary's on the wall

  • all if that energy cell collecting, for a goddamn ship missile expansion, is the true horror of this level.

  • i snuggled my cat whit this playing

  • I hope someday to live in a place like this.

  • Yeah, I too was pretty much scared shitless when I walked through there and then suddenly you meet a dead GFS soldier and you accidentally shoot him and he disintegrates. THAT's fuggin creepy =S

And yes, I want Retro back for the next Metroid game

  • lol haunted airport

  • retro sure knows how to fuck with peoples minds ESPECIALLY with those surprise bodies

  • This place is the MOST SCARYIEST PLACE EVER IN A METROID PRIME GAME. The corpses that would disintegrate when you opened the door scared me so hard I would jump. And that "secret" AU message is just so freaky and creepy.

  • Those DAMN Surprise Corpses! Get me every Time!!!

  • No wonder why you can only buy this game in germany when you are 16 or older...I mean this music is freaking scary for sutch a sick place. I remember back then when I almoust where able to "visit" the whole dead ship, that I was scared from a Nintendo game because off its music^^

  • GOD I HATE THIS HART EXPLODING PLACE

  • and you were planning on sleeping tonight.

  • Haha, I put this track on loop and hid my computer it in my friend's room during a campout. At 12:00 AM.

    It was funny.

  • @monkfishification You are a terrible person.

  • @blarge911 I know.

  • Perhaps it's just me, but I swear Retro did a better job with the Valhalla in terms of tension-like atmosphere than Other M was with the Bottle Ship (not to diss Other M or anything). :/

  • @sparx401 Well, minus the area with the Zebsian robots.

  • @sparx401 Too bad the Valhalla didn't lead up to anything that makes a blood curtling scream though.

  • DON'T GO TO THE VALHALLA DURING MIDNIGHT AT 12:30 A.M. OR LATER! Once you hear the bgm it stuck in your head for the rest of the night and your afraid to step one foot out the door 'cause you think a metroid going to suck the living heck out of you, you think you that roach is a phazon bug ready to pounce you w/ it claws, or you don't want to open the garbage can 'cause you fear a metroid hatcher will come out and start spearing you w/ its electric tentacles.

  • @Firet111 Good thing cause I LEARNED from that, I stayed up all friggin night hiding under my blankets, when it reached 8:00 AM I fell asleep...with a nightmare of my own HOUSE! I opened the garbage and a Metroid Hatcher came out.

  • @MetroidHunter50 Summary of Metroid games: We love creeping the freak out of people since 1986!

  • @Firet111 lol

  • receiving the last message was kinda creepy, i expected a boss to appear

  • This area was way more creepy than Dead Space.

  • this was less disturbing when i played. "look, a dead soldier (accidentally shoots) whoops"

  • Perfect horror, tragic, scary music= Right here! >:)

  • holy crap, i just had a dream: i walked throug a city at night, it looked NORMAL but there wasnt anybody - NO ONE and the doors of all houses/buildings were open. sudenly there were some animalistic screeching noises everywhere and i had to run

AND EVEN WORSEthis music "played." HORRIBLE

  • This theme plays when I'm on the train in a dark tunnel................and nobody is in the car but me.

  • @EReflexer This part of the game just make a lot of sense to me. :s

  • omg there was one time that I went into an elevator in that ship and for some reason the elevator got stuck and I could not get out for like 3 mins I was like WTF!? then all of a suden I started loosing health and I died! I think there was a ghost in there O___O

  • @gimlod IT WAS A CHOZO GHOST!!! cue music

  • I love this place! It scared me when I opened some doors just to see some troopers disintegrate in front of me. I was like 'wtf was that shit!'. But then again, the music and these creaking sounds and movements as if the ship's gonna break at any minute, makes me love it even more!

  • Also, does anybody else remember the dead space trooper that that metroid was dragging down that hallway? Also, anyone else remember the metroid hatcher? EVIL PLACE, GET ME OUT NAO!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • At the point where you finally manage to get the the chance to leave, it gives you that feeling that makes you want to start hauling some ass before something truly bad happens... Namely where you die a horrible, gruesome death to some undead GFS Valhalla staff...

  • I was on edge the entire time I was in this place. I don't think I was ever happier than when I finished my business in this place and never had to come back.

  • And I fought Twilight Princess was Nintendos creepist games.

  • the music in this level actually gets creepier as you advance further into the ship...has anyone uploaded it?

    |the kid|

  • Comment removed

  • @Hauntershadow you're right; it is the landing music. i reversed the two ><

    |the kid|

  • Personally I think if the wanted to.RetroStudios can make the Metroid Game even creepier and scarier then Dead Space

  • Comment removed

  • oh god. nothing gave me more chills than this place. when i recieved that message, i felt like somthing bad was going to happen O_O

  • @xTheToonLinkagex You and me both. After hearing that message, I hussled out of there as quickly as possible. I still get chills from thinking about what was contained in that message.

  • 2 person are swimming.

  • I have a feeling after recieving the final message from AU 313, the dead bodies will come alive. Good thing it didn't. ._.

I mean, imagine. You hear the AU getting more and more distorted as the message goes on. You close the message with a tingle of fear in your veins. Then something taps your shoulder. You turn around, and see a dead space pirate incredibly close with blank eyes, about to claw you.

    Cue the bloodcurdling screaming. >_>

  • @Ultrapyre wickedly epic.

  • @Ultrapyre THAT'S OKAY. I WASN'T PLANNING ON SLEEPING TONIGHT ANYWAYS.

  • @blarge911 that came from a Halo comment :/

  • @BlueGrunty What do you mean???

  • @blarge911 on a halo song; for a horror like mission; someone said that.

  • @Ultrapyre well in Metroid Prime 2 dead GF troopers comme alive after you cut the electric power (of course there were possesed by th Ing)

  • @Ultrapyre

this kind of happens in Halo 1, once a lifetime is good enough for this event

  • @Ultrapyre

As soon as I read your comment I was thinking in my mind:

"Holy shit I remember that one time when I was clicking random codes in my spaceship thing... damn that was scary."

What happened was some guy was screaming and sounded like a large robot was in the background? It was before I killed Ghor, so Idk. Scared the fuck outta me so I looked behind me and my cat jumped at my face. Im never playing MP3 in the dark again.

  • @Ultrapyre Valhalla music + AU 313'a message + reanimated GF troopers from MP2

    ._.

  • @Ultrapyre What about Him? If he was there, waiting to scare the F*** out of you, I would freak out so loudly, the world could hear it.

  • ugh NEVER LISTEN TO THIS AT NIGHT

  • @TheSuperEricWarshot I did (shudder) gave me nightmares

  • this is the scariest theme i have ever heard. and the valhalla is just uhh when i got tht message from the au i was like, OKAY IM OUTTA HERE! GOODBYE! but wht i dont understand is something keeps drawing me back to the valhalla HELP?

  • They should make a survival horror based on the storyline of Metroid. In the skin of a simple human, this should be very creepy...

  • If the Xenosearch was where you got the seeker missile in MP3 after TURNING OFF THE POWER TO THE FREAKING LIGHTS, then definitely Xenosearch. If not, then Valhalla. I seriously felt evil walking around in that place. Third is the lab, then finally, the mines.

  • Comment removed

  • Phazon Jumnpers + This theme= we're all Screwed

  • Frigate Orpheon from Metroid Prime is also freaky as fuck more so than Valhalla imo. But yes Corruption does have some of the most dreadful areas in Metroid.

  • to people pissed their pants when playing through the valhalla. also, isn't it ironic that such a creepy song is the theme of a ship named after viking version of heaven?

  • Anybody remember the metroid dragging the dead trooper down the hallway O_O

  • @shadowlink2000000009 I remember the hollowed shell of the dead trooper leaning against the blast doors when you first enter the ship. Scared the absolute shit out of me.

  • i insist... if this place had more landing sites like the G.F.S Olympus with more areas to explore, new lockable doors, and missions happening here including bosses! damn!!!!!! it would have been the best and the scariest scenario of all series... i would totally be: FUCk i want to leaveeeeeee!!

  • Its the part at 1:16 that gets me everytime, feels like some ominous creature is just gonna come out of the rafters and fucking eat u or something

  • 2 people died on the Valhalla

  • Oh, guys, I believe I have to buy a wii, just for Metroid games... (and maybe the new Zelda xD)

  • @DarkDrakee do it man do it

  • Is it just me, or does Metroid have the potential to an amazing horror game?

  • @CardiacHero The beginning of Prime 2 was pretty close.

  • @CardiacHero

    It's not?

  • @CardiacHero

In a lot of respects, I'm sure that's a route they want to take.

    Examples:

Valhalla. The mood, the setting, the music...everything made you want to leave.

SA-X. True, not inherently terrifying, but her intro and appearances in Fusion really gave me an "oh shit" moment.

  • @Windclaw Dude, SA-X didn't scare me because of its phisical appearance or the fact that it was a copy of Samus, but the fact that a FUCKING COPY was following me and didn't know when it would appear.

  • @CardiacHero ITs potential

  • @Guardsmen59

Yeah, realized the typo after I posted it.

  • @CardiacHero That would be brilliant! The SA-X was terrifying enough, maybe a fusion/hunters/dementium: the ward mashup for the 3DS?

  • @CardiacHero Oh it does.... Think of the Phazon Mines, almost everywhere in Dark Aether, Valhalla, and the Xenoresearch place.

  • @CardiacHero That, and have terrifying fanfiction.

  • @CardiacHero. I was thinking the same thing. It can be scary sometimes, in a good way.

  • @CardiacHero yeah... and what happened??... other m -_-

  • @CardiacHero: It kind of is...if you've played it,just think of the sequence after you shut the power down in the Xenoresearch Lab A.

  • @CardiacHero Metroid horror game? That could work if you shifted the character trait of Samus always being prepared and one-step ahead... Into being caught totally off guard.

Deep Space was scary as F***

  • @CardiacHero you are right.

  • I was more fascinated and curious about the Valhalla than I was afraid. I don't scare easily to say the least. I'm too methodical and rational.

side note: How cool was seeing all the phazon metroids just chillin' in the nebula outside the ship wreckage!

  • "Am I the only one who's not scared of anything in the Metroid games?"

Although, the first time I fought the 2 worm mini-bosses on Zero Mission, their surprise attacks did make me jump.

  • I hate the "Surprise-Corpses" Because they kinda turn into ashes when you open a fucking door wich scares the shit out of me EVERY fucking time!!!

  • @KitaxNekoSama57

I jumped nearly 5 feet in the air when I saw that one where there's not much gravity. They got me GOOD!!!

  • @KitaxNekoSama57 ME TOOOOO

  • Valhalla... i hear this name in my nightmares.

I was go right to find the AE, i open a door, and then, i see there... Phazon Metroid, sure over one million of them, i think: "Oh my F*cking Godness, did you want to kill me? *cry and run away*"

  • @DarkMetroid96 Probaly, they wanted to take you to a SECRET LOCATION That has alot of goodies in it, and then after collecting them all, they unlock a warp zone to get back to the ship.

  • It's been almost a year since I played this game, and this track still creeps me out.

  • Normally in this place, I expected a real scary ass boss but no, I just got to another computer which sucks

  • One thing this piece reminds me is the Resident Evil 2 Police Station.

  • Reminds me of Jonathan Dunn's Jurassic Park 2 music on the SNES!

  • I find that Valhalla was a great attempt for horror in Metroid. They should add more areas like this in future games.

  • If metroids in any of these games looked or were any more threatening than they already are, all these games would be rated M.

  • I can't be the only one who could've sworn upon walking into some rooms that they've seen a Space Pirate or Marine walking around before they entered...

  • This part is easy to jump at when its 12:40 am and you here something bump D:

  • @G3Rify I know how you feel

  • scariest music ever made

  • God, I HATED this place. The area outside the ship (the Gaflar system, I think) looks really cool, but this place was FREAKY. Especially the corpses littering the floor.

  • @Axapez The corpses on the floor, the walls, in the air vents, and just floating around...all creepy.

  • @TrioTriforce I agree with you 100% This music does sound like it would be off of Dead Space or Dead Space 2 O_o Scary none the less O_o

  • easiest of all metroids :]

  • i also ALMOST never finished the game because of this

  • this song could be played in resident evil 5 and noone who never played metroid would be so scared man!!!!

  • @zoralink113 lol its nobody who EVER played metroid

  • if you look outside at a few points where there are windows you can see countless amounts of phazon metroids floating around out there! go to the place where a few metroids attack you and theres a window and look outside! theyre waiting......

  • oh and wen it rumbles, its like somethings just jumped onto the valhalla, then ur like whos there?!!!!!

  • Its not just the music but the atmosthere. Sieng all the dead bodies and vehicles, creepy. Oh and there is the shaking and creeking every few mins, it scares me everytime. Everytime i have 2 go back im like D:

Its just so creepy. I had a nightmare other this once. Everything was just kinda dark. This music was playing. I went outside, all my friends, neighbors, dead. Vehicles were smashed. Then i saw i shadowy figure, it was coming towards me and before it got me, i woke up. Scary!!!

  • Try to compare this to Dead Space's USG Ishimura. You haven't seen horror yet. lol

  • This will be perfect for a survival horror Metriod game

  • As everyone has already pointed out, Valhalla was one of the creepiest areas in the game,

But for me... It was the saddest. It was just... absolutely depressing. And the magic of that atmosphere was that it actually took you there. Examining all the damaged stiletto fighters, the malfunctioning equipment, the dead bodies, et cetera... every time I had to go back, I was just like D: "This is so sad" And then of course the ship would creak and rumble and I'd jump, but even so xD
