I really enjoyed this commentary. A very pragmatic approach to a rapidly-changing industry. I enjoy WOTE's cover (despite its live shortcomings or YouTube'd..overrecordings?), and love GOTYE's original, both in video and strictly audio. Musicians are a very critical group, mainly because the industry is, to whatever extent, un "fair" in its selection practices. With that said, it is what it is (to borrow the cliche), and good on WOTE for doing something inventive.

But they made a really amazing cover that is original in nature and attracting more attention to the original song... They are not claiming that they created the song..... Oh no, I just misclicked and disliked the video :( In fact you are 100% right, good points. Though I think the jealous people are just louder in general, the majority of people will just acknowledge that WOTE is really talented and some people will like their music and some people won't. Once you get famous it is really important to not take every comment about yourself serious in my opinion.

i agree with the jealousy thing my lead singer hated most other better bands and i wanted to work with them to help climb each other like a successful rock climb once someone gets higher put a peg in then have the other guy climb up a bit and put in a higher peg and if you fall you are still held up by the peg put in place so you wont fall all the way down .....................

Ya man! WOTE is awesome. Period. I feel that Welland and Windsor are very similar in mindset... The music "elitists" in the City of Roses should meet the Rose City and battle out who are the cooler hipsters. I actually prefer their cover. Lots of bands get started on covers - Barenaked Ladies, Alien Ant Farm, etc etc
