  • Is the UBV-76 a number station or just an odd signal?

  • @TsarBombaMusic No, it is'nt really a numbers station, it comes under the category of 'shortwave oddity'.

  • @Hanglands

    i dont know man

there were recordings of voices saying russian names or numbers

the beeping is just a cheap way to identify if the radio is still running or not

  • is this all shortwave?

  • Comment removed

  • what an annoying text scroll. Informational video... ruined by the obnoxious "dimensional" scrolling of text.

  • @mcgenetics Well, your four videos arent exactly going to win any prizes either mate.

  • oh my..these "broadcasts" are seriously freaky..

are there any other of this kind or its just these 3?

another thing..whyy are all these from russia..

  • @kiselbob Hiya. There are others. Off the top of my head, there is also a Polish Pip.

  • @Hanglands lol quick response m8 :}

is there any info of their true purpose or its just theories

  • @kiselbob No, its not just theories, these things are quite well documented. Search out the Spooks Newsletter for example.

  • @Hanglands ok ty m8 :} will check it out

  • I've been reading about these, And can someone explain to me, why do they play these?

  • @Powiis Hi there, check the link in the video description for more info, or just Google the names of the stations.

  • @Hanglands I did, but i still dont understand?

Is it just a radio station that plays this sound over and over again? Why?

  • @Powiis Its a frequency marker, or channel marker. The sounds you are hearing here are just the idling or standby signal. Once in a while these sounds will be interrupted for voice or data traffic.

  • Cool vid, but lrn2faint.

  • Yes it was on /b/ but i went on the station itself and i didnt hear it, now i do hear it.

  • IT STOPPED. OMG OMG OMGOMGOMOGMG NOT GOOD

  • @Idkfawin32 it sure did stop . and all i heard was

    THE GAME

  • @IAMSPLITTONGUE

    FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

    ...UUUUUUUUUUUUUUK YOU.

    I LOST THE GAME

  • @AustralianPyro LOL ILIKE U/B/

  • @IAMSPLITTONGUE

LOL HOW U GET THAT BACKWARDS d ?!?!?!

  • @AustralianPyro a lil bit of this u laff u lose.

  • @IAMSPLITTONGUE

thats okay, as long as you dont remind me of manually breathing.

  • it stopped TRANSMITTING!~

  • @xMLGxGamer2284 you read this on 4chan didn't you?

  • @mooseisanoob NO . ITS ON THE NEWS.

  • When you wrote "11/12", did you mean "11th December" or "12th November"?

  • @Trashcu 11th December. UK format is dd/mm/yy.

  • Can anyone explain what a "Frequency Marker" is?

  • Well, its simply an identifiable sound, such as these 'Squeaks', 'pips' and 'foghorns' here which are played on certain frequencies in the radio spectrum to mark a certain frequency to indicate that it is active, that someone is listening, or that the frequency is in use, or that the listener has found the right frequency to listen on. These markers sometimes (but very rarely) break their 'standby' signal to transmit information by voice or data mode.

  • Traumatic as hell!

  • good god! that sonded like it should be the background music for a freaking horror movie!

  • Has a voice broadcast ever been heard on 'The Pip'? Also, has any of the voice broadcasts on the buzzer ever been recorded? It's just so creepy. I find it fascinating.

  • google "uvb-76 wiki" There have been a few on the buzzer

  • Thanks, but that's not the answer to the question i asked.

I know that there have been voice broadcasts on the buzzer, i wanted to know if anyone ever actually managed to record it. It'd be cool to hear it.

  • Hi there, sorry for the delay in replying. I believe the S28/UVB-76 has been recorded by a guy called Rimantas Pleikys, he certainly heard it more than once sending voice. I got that info from the Spooks Newsletter #33.

  • There are recorded instances of voice on youtube, even, if that's what you mean.

  • Thanks for getting back to me. I found the video of the voice broadcast. It's eerie to say the least.

  • I've seen a transcription of voice on the buzzer, but I don't know if it was recorded. A bunch of russian names were read, iirc.

  • How come nobody goes out and finds the broadcasting station? I'd love to see a documentary about it. Hopefully it's not a dead-safe or dead hand system..

  • On some occasions people have, and there are transmitter sites viewable on Google Earth and suchlike.

But on the other hand, who is going to go all the way out to Guam or the back woods of Smolensk just to get caught roaming near some government property with radio direction finding equipment?

  • Ah, I apologize for my callowness on the subject; I just learned of this last night. I'm scared shitless now. Not because of the sound, that's do-able, but the theories surrounding it, such as the dead-hand system.

  • Hey, no need to apologize at all... The three stations in this video are just chanel markers, they sometimes (very rarely) send a brief message either vocal or encrypted Morse/data.

  • Say I wanted to get into shortwave stations; whats a good set to begin with? If its of any importance I have a giant leftover antenna I was going to put on my boat but live in the US.

  • Well, there are tons of great radios available on ebay. A good radio to start with would be the Realistic/RadioShack DX-394 (provided its an A or a B model, and not the original model), or a Nasa Target HF3. For an aerial, most shortwave listeners just use a longwire or random wire antenna. If you check my other videos, there are some of the DX-394 doing some data mode decoding.

  • In fact, further to my last answer, on a radio forum I hang out on, some people seem to really like the Degen DE1103 as an 'occasional' radio when theyre on the move if you didnt want to buy a unit like the 394 or HF3. There seem to be bucket loads of them on ebay too.

  • Cool, thanks for the answer. I'll look into this.

  • @PrimoVids - Try the R75 from Icom..It's rather pricey depending on your budget, but it works very well... Universal radio is a good place to start looking.

  • I'll have to try to receive these "noises" and analyze them using some of my spectrum analyzer software; should produce some interesting results, especially the "buzzer"!

  • Great video, thanks for posting.

  • Thanks for watching!

  • yep, I think I copped all three, the buzzer and pip were strongest on me I kept slipping off either side of the pip even with fine tune, but the buzzer was blowing my windows out. I could just make out squeeky wheel very faintly, will try again this week.

  • wow, this is a great catch,I cant wait to get hold of some hf gear for myself. great vid hanglands, you excelled yourself. well done. * * * * *

  • Thanks mate. I've been watching second hand 394s on ebay lately.

  • I think it is the Russians trying to make us think that they have all of this fancy code crap.

  • @matkovicha That is actually what about half of the 'number stations' are for.

  • @matkovicha I wrote this comment two years ago when I was still an immature asshole. Now I feel bad that I may be offending Russians.

  • Ohhh those Russians.
