  • I laughed so hard my shoes and my glasses fell off and I landed on my assneck...

  • 1 Dutchmen has watched this clip ;)

  • how do these two not burst into laughter when doing this? I wonder how many takes it took. Most comedies fail at having a laugh out loud moment at every line. This is just plain comedy gold.

  • Stop talking shit about the Boosh, this has nothing to do with the Boosh (yes I know Ayoade played Saboo, inb4 smug git), it's weird your fixation with criticizing the Boosh.

  • alot of this is throughly disappointing. I think Boosh is Better than this bull. Dark place is great. Dean Learner FTW

" Mind your P's and Q's.. That means NO 'effin and jeffin. "

  • I'm Dutch and sadly I'm not involved with the wasp plan :(

  • @XguitarrockerX Nice try WASP-MAN!

  • Dean's a man's man-when men were men. Women wanted to be with him-and men wanted to be him.

  • Jan.Willeboordse@scottishwater.co.uk

  • you've earned yourself a third "correct!" <3

these 2 are amazing together and i wish they would make more series of darkplace!!

  • 'I was sick once, and then I got the runs. We have to make this film!'

  • a meta-for what? HAHA

  • So it is the Dutch!

  • if a tree falls in a forest and im not there and it makes a sound, but i dont hear it, but someone records it and plays it to me at a dinner party, does that mean im still in the forest?

  • Is Garth merenghi based on Steven King?

Just all of his books are set in romford

and all of steven kings are set in maine

and he mentioned that one of his characters was a part time horror writer

virtually all of steven kings charachters are writers

Garth merenghi did a horror series set in a hospital

    so did steven king

I'm seeing parralels allover the place, check me out

  • King, Kootz, all those type of writers that churn out horror after horror book.

  • roundapanda, steven king did NOT do a series in a hospital, it was a remake of a danish series by Lars Von Trier called The Kingdom. just making sure the right people get credit.

    this is awesome though.

  • One inspiration seems definitely to be Guy N. Smith, classically bad British horror writer. There's a Garth Marenghi novel titled "Crabs!", which must be inspired by Smith's "Killer Crabs" novels.

  • he's making fun of him,

like how he says in dark place that he stole from author's after their copyrights expired

ie stephen king stealing from lovecraft

  • falzze

  • episode 6, where a woman turns into Broccoli, is directly related to Dreamcatcher by King.

    "what's that?"

    "It's a Dreamcatcher"

    "What's a Dreamcatcher?"

    "It's a kind of a wind chime,"

"then why didn't you say wind chime?"

  • Darkplace could be a bit random sometimes. I've never seen a dreamcatcher with chimes on the bottom other than on that programme.

  • The character is a parody of horror writers in general, in particular those most prolific in the 80's. Shaun Hutson, King, Koontz, Graham Masterton, James Herbert, Guy N Smith, Richard Laymon, the list is endless.

  • James Herbert especially with *that* leather jacket he wore once on Wogan.

  • I'd say definately Shuan Hutson, has to be the main writer he's parodying. The book covers are classic Shuan Hutson as are the central ideas for the novels. I.e. What if a Wasp waged war etc. Like Shuan Hutsons Slugs.

  • Check out this picture of James Herbert (replace "stop" with .)

    jamesherbert STOP org/Roger/JamesHerbert.jpg

Definitely big Herbertian input here. As for the two characters, there's more than a little influence from Spinal Tap style ad libbing and Alan Partridge.

  • Yep. Seeing that I'd have to agree. Great pic by the way. Herbert is the man!

  • Aye James Herbert's books aren't exactly "high brow" literature, but they're a great read most of the time.

  • how do they not laugh? must be tough cus this is some funny shit

  • I think Garth is based on James Herbert. Cos he writes shit books as well.

  • LOL uve earned urself a third correct

  • Anyone but me think Gath looks veeerrryyy similar to William Friedkin?!

  • Yeah ive always thought that aswell! I think Garth is very much based on a younger Friedkin. With the leather jacket and those tinted glasses, the hair too.

  • Yeah, I can confirm it was filmed in front of live studio audience with microphones above people.

I was there for the Garth Marenghi interview.

  • did they have to do loads of takes and you laugh at all of them? or did they manage to do it without any or many mistakes?

  • They did the whole show twice.

But was still laughing as u missed stuff in first run-through.

Especially when Garth got p*ssed off with himself and threatened to hit someone!! hahaha

  • "You've earned yourself a third correct." Pardridge ripp-off it may be but that's some funny shit

  • Yeah I was one of the audience. It was funny in studio. Not so sure about the broadcast...

  • It took me the first episode to get into the show coz its so different to the genius Darkplace, but the rest of the series was great! I think its being released on DVD in September. Can't wait!!

  • Oh Will People Stop Skitting This

    Gawdd!

Dont See You On Here Making People Laugh :@

  • Either way, all the laughing is annoying and it interferes with what they're saying.

  • Its not a laugh track. Its not their to be cheesy. Its just a genuine audience.

  • He's totally different to Partridge. Same genre, though. Looking forward to this coming out on the DeanVD label!

  • it's blatantly robbed from Partridge, I just wished they would've made a second series of Darkplace(which was hilarious) rather than this shit

  • Yeh coz Partridge was the first spoof interview show...

  • "Partridge was the first spoof interview show" - Mrs Merton was on around the same time. Quote - "So Debbie Magee, what first attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels?"

  • lol DeanVD is quite funny tho

  • It's a studio audience. It tells you on the website. Plus he interacts with the audience when he cracks a joke in part one.

  • its seems quite blatant that theyve put the laughter track on so obviously that its meant to be funny itself, i cant believe you havent picked up on that

  • it's a studio audience not canned laughter

  • Thanks for posting this for us US fans. I loved Darkplace. Its a pity they put a laugh track on this.

  • Uh yeah, you said that already.

  • It's not a laugh track. There was a live audience. I was there for a couple of the episodes.

  • wow what an awfully good alan partridge impression.

  • Hey you should try Alan Partridge sometime...
