Also, as we read in the "Commissar Cain" books, more often then not, PDF units are useally comprimised and infected with the Tyranid Gene, therefore further cementing MOST PDF units are unreliable.

Those Imperial Guard you see in the beginning are PDF units(Planetary Defense Forces) they're supposed to be able to hold back the enemy and push them back offworld(but no more) but, sadly, this is FAR from true, PDF units are unreliable, disposible and form up most conscript platoons(if they don't feel like conscripting from the population that is)

Actually if you play the game they are the Imperial Guard, of that planet that is. So to a certain extent they are PDF.

Truthfully, MOST Imperial Guard units are useually offworld, in some clatyclismic conflict that will no doubt cost a billion lives(if lucky hundreds) PDF units are ALWAYS stationed of a planet, and their favorite(more like forced) gun is an Autogun, and Heavy Stubbers(if you've played Fire Warrior, MOST Steel Legion troopers were armed with Autoguns)
