I also have a 90 model i'm doing a 302 swap in. People told me to get a chevy motor because they were cheaper but my heart couldn't do it, if it's a ford truck it should have a ford motor.
My dad has a 1987 Ford Ranger 2.3 four cylinder close to 330,000 miles and still runs. He bought it new in 1987 it was a test drive truck and had roughly 2,000 miles on it at the time. We start it and drive it often. 2.3 is the best motor that ford EVER made. We know guys locally that run the 2.3's in their derby cars and they beat them to heck but the motors still run sterong after the race. Ford would be more successful if they would go back to the 7.3 deisels and the 2.3 four cylinders.
@dwman24 I love those Rangers made between 83 and 88. 2.3 is a good motor, I own a 96 with that engine in her, love that truck like she's my girlfriend man.
@Macdaddy3354 both trucks were stick only in that episode, in every other king of the hill episode hank is driving an old ranger with an automatic trans. and an F-250 with an automatic trans. and I don't know why they did that for that episode.
My dad got one of these 10 years ago. It was an 89 XLT 5 speed manual, long bed, it even had the same 14 inch wheels as the one in the video but my dad´s Ranger was a 2 tone Navy blue with the lower stripe on sky blue. It had the 2.9L V6 engine and it was fun to drive, after 3 years of ownership he put a rebuilt 2.9 engine because the original engine died after 290,000 miles. With the new engine he put another 50,000 miles until he sold it. Pretty durable trucks

Yea. at least the ranger still keeps the "cheapest" title.
Shame there so outdated now-
But yea, im a ranger fan for life. If my ranger falls into a volcano, I'd probably buy another one.
