You know we still have beer ads all over television.Alcohol causes early death ,broken families, financial problems and all of the court ,jail and police costs as well as the deaths caused by drunken driving. You are repulsed by these ads now but to tell you the truth alcohol costs society more than cigarette smoking ever will.
R.J. Reynolds co-sponsored the series from 1962 through '67. In the earlier seasons, the cast appeared in an "integrated commercial" for the sponsor's product at the end of the episode. They also pitched Kellogg's Corn Flakes on the weeks Kellogg's was the primary sponsor.
the Fortune Tobacco Corporation was formely related to R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co., Winston-Salem NC, U.S.A., and in 2002, now related to JT International makers of Winston, Camel & Salem cigarettes.
It's interesting how they left out the laugh track in these commercials.
Buddy Ebsen reportedly enjoyed smoking cigars.
It's also interesting that this show was also sponored by Kellogg's Corn Flakes: one product that was actually good for you and another that would kill you 20 years down he road!
any real smoker can tell Buddy Ebsen was not a smoker....he isnt even inhaling. Ebsen lived to be pretty old. No way he lived that long huff'in cigarettes
its true Buddy Ebson wasnt a smoker or a drinker but keep in mind George burns smoked cigars and drank brandy for years and lived to 100 it only proves you dont die til its your time no matter how good you live
to mastermonarch: traditionally cigar smokers do not "inhale". I once heard an interview where Burns said he took up cigar smoking as a "prop"....to have something in his hands on stage
Interesting side note: my late father never smoked....he lived to be 83 years old.....his sister smoked like a chimney....she lived to be 83 years old....go figure
at 1:08 you'll see a subliminal visual featuring that damn Nancy Kulp. You'll notice
her white skirt pulled down a few inches and her dancing the Winston Jig, her frail hip exposed for ultimate subliminal pleasure. Did I mention 'hot sex'?
How bout some heroin now Jed?

Not much different than today, but unlike the hazards of smoking that have put old
"ciggy" out to pasture, today you can't see a movie or a video that doesn't have products in the forefront.Isn't capitalism grand......suckers.

What do you want to bet Drysdale is heavily invested in RJ Reynolds stock?

Didn't a bunch of them die of lung cancer or mouth cancer?

In this scene, Drysdale introduces Winston cigarettes to Jed.
What they do not show is the following scene, where Jed invites Drysdale to puff a joint, made from pot grown in Jed's backyard.

Good observation. I noticed that he just took a puff and rolled it out with out actually inhaling it.

Yes, and neither did Bill Clinton. Coincidentally, he used cigars as a prop as well.

I think he died because he's a human being. All humans, aka genus homo sapiens will die someday.
