The outer ones look like Yamaha HS80m's not sure about the other ones

  • Great video! thanks!!! to bad he is not here anymore , I miss him

  • Totally overrated.

  • @beowulven quite sure about that?

  • @PrinceZappa

    No.

  • I am pretty sure if Frank Zappa and Allan Holdsworth ever would've cooperated, the world couldn't have handled it. It would've just imploded.

  • "Is it important to you to be taken seriously?"

    "Nah,"

    *crickets*

  • "Is it important to you to be taken seriously?"

    "No,"

    *crickets*

  • Vangelis is minimalist, as with the theme from Chariots of Fire. In Zappa, a maxi example would be the piece A Ship Arriving Too Late To Save A Drowning Witch. Still, I bet Zappa leaned more towards qualitatively fun than quantitatively hard. They were experiments in NON-Commercial music and formula. The first half of the 60's was all R&B (I/IV/V) and Doo-Wop(I/VI/IV/V). Theoneus Monk, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Galespy, & Miles Davis Experimented in form. Do we still rate things by radio air play?

  • what's the opposite of minimalism? Maximalism? Mini takes a 16 bar phrase and repeats is over and over and varies Instrumentation and parameters. Industry standard is self evident. How would you in general define maximalism? A non linear sequence of minimalist statements? or Epic? or a mural vs a portrait? it's complicate? it's gymnastic? it's surreal and psychedelic? Psyche-poeic? impressive? advanced and abstrusive? With the LP the conceptual album was born and died. score a ballet sometme

  • if it weren't for zappa and george carlin I think i'd go insane from the bullshit. my father also was wary of religious jerks. He is a very "let the buyer beware" type.

  • Fucking hell Frank, I miss you so much.

  • And of course those who deleted the footage plan to immediately release this entire interview with concert footage for purchase on iTunes, Rhapsody, or brick and mortar style at Best Buy, or FYE, or Virgin Megastore or some such place. Right?

    Right? *crickets from the deleters*

  • Fantastic.

    Especially the church part.

  • I'd like to Chill w/ the homie Frank Zappa

  • I'm amazed how similar his opinions on composing are to Raymond Scott. They were both composing the same way at that time. (and sadly died at the same time a few years later)

  • ALLAN motherfucking HOLDSWORTH

    No higher praise is available.

  • "when working composers, is it important to you to be taken seriously in that regard"?

    "No"

  • 2:46 Now, some folks say he looked like ZUBIN MEHTA ; still others say, bullshit, honey he's just another greasy guy who happened to be born next to the Frozen Beef Pies at BONEY'S MARKET. Still others say, John, piss on you, Jack! He's just a crazy Italian who drove a RED CAR: FZ - "Billy The Mountain"

  • Nice to see him mention Allan Holdsworth!

  • 0:07 Adam west!

  • Comment removed

  • And now you can do most of that with a Macbook pro, a midi keyboard, and a good DAW.

  • Moraisito Ametista - The best...

  • "If you have ever employed a musician, you know what I mean".

    And how...........

  • Adam West!

  • "Interviewer: "...is it important for you to be taken seriously in that regard?"

    FZ: (instantly) "No."

    GENIUS!!!

  • Zappa cared for literally nothing but music. Awards? Worthless. Respect and recognition? Irrelevant. Acceptance and fame? Contemptible. He stood by and lived his word at every turn. Love him or loathe him, there's a guy that lived by his own rules.

  • he used too light up them joints with that lighter

  • @LauryWard WTF????

  • His position on religions is just spot on.

Zappa should be considered the modern day Mozart.

Just like Mozart I don't always like Zappa's music, but I still think he's the greatest inventor of all time.

  • @Geeljasjes Yeah, I'm pretty sure Zappa was A-OK with people deciding from his catalog what they liked, and what they don't. He never asked for aesthetic obedience, and in fact detested it. I really dig his early 70s stuff, and I also like some of his later classical experimentation, but I'm not always keen on his late 70s early 80s stuff. But thats ok, that stuff appeals to other people, and whatever parts of zappa folks like, you can be sure most zappa fans actually care about music.

  • @Geeljasjes pfff mozart? zappa would kill you!

  • yeah zappa loves holdsworth thats awesome

  • Zappa seems a smart guy...

Good point about inflicting religion on kids. That's the most evil deed ever.

  • adaaam weeeeeeest

  • lol about the lighter thing at the end! wtf!?

  • At freaking last! A nice look at the heart of UMRK.

  • Zappa's music sucks. I much prefer the 100 MPH recycled disco trailer park procreation music we have today.

  • zappa music sucks to a total moronic person who doesn't have a shred of musical knowledge and education.

Here's some advice: go back to school and take some music appreciation courses.

  • Hey smart person, can you say "sarcasm"? I'm a Zappa freak. I thought the words "100 MPH recycled disco trailer park procreation music" would be a dead giveaway, but I guess not.

  • sorry.

I prefer something to the point.20th century avent garde subversive contemporary music.

  • @pazzensutra Hehehe ...

  • "Real Artists"

  • Talk bout 180 degrees indeed...

Watching old TV shows like this reminds me just how much the world lost with Frank, and what great perspective he could have brought today.

  • good little interview. I like when he said Allan Holdsworth was his favourite player. Also funny that he's never heard a philip glass piece!!

  • only madonna and shit music is allowed now.

    is a sort of fascism.

  • "Part 3 has some concert footage and was muted by You Tube"

    Fucking corporate idiots.

  • @youvebeenthunderstru If it wasn't for corporate idiots, you wouldn't have herd music you love, or have an entertaining life, or YouTube, or anything else. They have families too. Get over it.

  • "Is is important to be taken seriously in that regard?"

    "No."

  • i loved it too xD

  • "Employing musicians? Hell no!"

  • You should upload Part 3 without the concert footage.

  • What year?

  • haha, ironic ending.
