It's a toss up. I can't figure out which version to like the best. i wish it were Leonard Cohen because he wrote it but he doesn't do it best. It's either Jeff Buckley or KD Lang. Piano or guitar, showman (woman) ship or heart and soul. KD is the show; Jeff is the heart and soul. Man or woman. Right now I'm going for Jeff, but if I watch KD again I could change my mind. I also like her big band. Maybe someone else will do it even better and help decide.

The thing I love about this version of the song, and indeed about Jeff Buckley as an artist, is the pure, raw, gut-wrenching, soul-destroying, evocative tone to his vocals that no other artist I have EVER listened to has come even close to replicating. In my opinion, this is how this song was written to be played, although credit to Cohen for writing such an intense masterpiece of course.

In all honestly, if I could make a trade with 'God' for Jeff's life back in exchange for my own, I would.

And if you're talking about the Kate Voegele cover, yes, it is in fact virtually the same song. The same chords, and just shy of the same picking pattern.
