I've played DCS: A-10C, and the HUD for the A-10 in that game has all the information the HUD the A-10c has in this video. Good on Eagle Dynamics for that level of attention to detail.

as much as i love the a10, having calculated it's wing surface for lift more than once.... the gun itself isn't that big of a deal. It's the depleted uranium core in the bullets that makes the difference. The same DU rounds also poisoned more than half of our armed forces in the process. Not a good trade off, but an effective one if you wanted to see dead American troops.

@1984wrx 40mm or so for the 6ld AT gun. But that’s a guess as its some years since I was last at the imperial war museum in London and that is the only place I have ever seen one. The museum web site should have stuff on this type of gun if you look. As for the Antonov. I remember seeing it on some BBC news reports about Afghan war and I used to work with a Afgan and he remembers them as a kid shooting up the villages he live near. But I have never tried looking the thing up online.

@1984wrx thats true the ac-130 has the largest but not the most powerful...the a-10 fires a special ammunition called depleted uranium rounds which are also used in the sabots of the m1 Abrams. also the gun fires around 4200 rounds per minute. this thing was made to fly up a line of Russian tanks and just absolutely tear them a new one with this gun, if you don't believe me then look up pictures of tanks destroyed by a a10, very impressive if you ask me.

@1984wrx they dont use the ac-130 anymore because they fly so slow and are too easy to get shot down. yes the ac130 does have 2 larger cannons but the a10's cannon fires at 3,900 per minute but they can rev it up to 14,000 per minute and (around 60 per sec). also the a10 can easily take out any tank with less than 5 bullets because the 30mm cannon slits metal in half so easily. a10's firing at a tank will usually fire 3 rounds and that would destroy the tank. hard to believe but its tru

I've seen the 30mm gun at an Air museum. It's called the Gau-8. They of course didn't fire it, but showed us videos of it firing. It flames out of everywhere, it's scary as hell. The gun looked about 25 feet long, with about 2/3 of it the barrels.

this is how planes should be designed not jacks of all trade but masters of one, and another thing. Whats with these f*****g JDAM bombs they not only put fins on them, but very expensive guidance equipment. That they blow up 'wheres the sense in that.' They could be just as accurate. For far cheaper, with a fuel tank and nosels. Or a 360 scram jet engine on the back and simple satnav guidance. Missiles are cheaper and faster with better range FFS. I truly believe I'm on to something here.

Gau8 is more powerful in the long run than a 75mm or even a 105mm. A GAU hits with multiple rounds that are usually depleted uranium. 75mm and 105 rounds are usually HE rounds, anti troop, not anti armor..

The Air Farce likes their High Tech toys, & the "Warthog" is past it's prime, in their eyes. Line dogs like I was, LOVE that hog.
