  • Third Stanza:

    I felt these emotions, when I watched her;

    She is like the dancing of a happy peacock

    She is like the thread of rich silk

    She is like the song that fairies sing

    She is like the sweet fire from sandalwood

    She is like the beauty at the thresh hold of adulthood

    She is like the burst of freshness

    She is the intoxication that slowly grows upon you

    Those are the emotions, I feel, when I behold her.

  • Second Stanza:

    I felt these emotions, when I glanced at her;

    She is like the morning's beauty

    She is like the winter's sunshine

    She is like the strain of the lute

    She is like the brilliance of colour

    She is like the drooping willows

    She is like the dance of the waves

    She is the cool breeze heavy with floral scent

  • First Stanza:

    I felt these emotions, when I first saw her;

    She is like a rose in bloom

    She is like the dream of a poet

    She is like the birth of dawn

    She is like a doe in the woods

    She is like the moonlit night

    She is like a softly whispered phrase

    She is the lamp offered in the temple

  • why i listen this song time and again and praise the imagination of writer... why impressiviness of this song ends.

  • the songs about when ever he sees this girl thats how he feel

  • What are they saying? I mean, what is this song about? Can someone tell me please?

  • when I saw this girl, she seemed to me like...

    like a blooming rose;like a poet's dream; like a glowing ray of light;like a deer in the forest;

    like a moonlit night;like a soft word;

    like a candle(lamp) burning in the temple.

  • Continued....

    when I saw this girl, she seemed to me like...

    Like the beauty of the morning; like winter sunshine;like a note from the lute; like the essence of all color; like a twisting vine;

    like the play of waves; like a cool scented wind.

  • Thanks dude, i was looking for this translation too...

  • Wow, thanks for the translation! My best friend played this at her wedding so long ago. I've always loved it even thought I didn't know a word it was saying. It's so beautiful it transcends language boundaries. I also didn't realize dude was Anil Kapoor until last week....

  • I don't think this guy needs to put any effort when singing; it comes naturally to him.

  • beast song

  • very pleasent and loving song great!

  • AWESOME

  • kool

  • love this songggg sooo nicee

  • Wow.. Can someone imagine this sing without great sanu.

    The combination of sanuda - javedsaab -panchamda- anil kapoor - vidu vinod chopada and off cource the girl for whom this song is being sung- manisha - made this song IMMORTAL.

  • and the fact that the lyrics are gorgeous and flow really well - javed akhtar all the way!

  • awsome song!

  • Great song!!

  • Oh my God! what a song! It cant be merely described as beautiful or melodious. It is a song with heavenly lyrics, heavenly music, and equally heavenly singing. U listen to such songs and u will feel as if u are in heaven

  • oh my god mnisha was so stunning back then now shes turned into a bear, thats what sex drugs and rock and roll does to u so BEWARE kiddies!

  • none of any actor from her times look all that great either. it's called "time" and "aging" kid.

  • classic song ......

  • tunnneee

  • It's a classic piece.....very refreshing. Whoever wrote it, take a bow!

    Imani, U.K.

  • Hi Thielord08. I'm fairly new to Indian film music but so far, I have more feeling for tunes like these than the most recent stuff, which seems too busy and a bit pseudo American. Obviously time and music changes, but this song here has a timeless character whilst I think the current set of tunes will date quickly. Just my opinion though, many will differ.

  • yes you are right. i often thought how the poet relates so many feeling of seeing a girl and yut keep the balance in the poetry.

    Truely a master piece

  • hi heru1966. u should listen to a song called "tuje deka to janna sanam" from dilwale dulania lajainga. that is also a very good song but not as peaceful as this song. thx for the comment!

  • yea i agree... but there are still some really nice new songs... like "kahin toh hogi woh" from Jaane tu... and "tujh me rab" from rab ne banade jodi... those are beautiful songs :)

    but my all time fav song is still Pehla Nasha but the first I mentioned has been added to that list :0

  • nice and loving song

  • i dont know the name of this actress but she looks very nice in this movie. this is aman from toronto canada.

  • shes called manisha koirala

  • Here is a loose translation. The lyrics are deep into metaphors that are Indian in sensibility and don't always lend to a direct translation into English. Nevertheless, hope this helps:

  • your translation was amazing!!! i loved it..!

  • ah javed akhtar's lyrics!

  • imagination is mother of all lyrics, and i guess, the poet stepped in the shoes of lover boy, i dream of myself there..

  • amazing.. when i listen this song. I was surprised by the imagination of the poet. How he symbolises a lady with different things and still keeping the lyrics weight in balance who wrote this songs

  • it is zakas / kassuut

  • my dad used to sing this when i was little :)

  • ahaaa...... legend...... drive a suzuki gypsy in the hills with this song playing on the speakers.... total bliss

  • this song dosent have any borders, i am a Sri Lankan and i LOVE this song but i dont even understand the lyrics. i guess its one of the most popular hindi songs in Sri Lanka.i hope some one write the meaning of the lyrics here so every fan can understand the lyrics.

  • Glad to read this =)

    "Ek ladki ko dekha to aysa laga"

    means

    Looked at a girl and felt like this...

  • The lyrics are the best ever. Each line is a masterpiece. For me the words "Jaise mandir mein ho ek jalta diya" are incomparable. Poetry at its best!!!

  • this is a film which was made way back frm today

    and in those times a girl was known by her innocence and soul and this song picturises the girl's innocence perfectly...

    therefore this song picturises the girl smiling all the time

    do u understand!!!!

  • why is she laughing at everything?

  • its a hindi film everything goes

  • this why they called inncoent romance those days

    not nowadays people forgot the meaning of romance.our eastern girls use to smile when they saw the boy they liked

    the smile was sign of shyness which is kind of romance.

  • For crying out loud, why can't she be happy and care free?

    Some of us are blessed to have days when LIFE IS PERFECT. The smallest of things send our spirits soaring. Simple things delight us.

    People like you see us enjoying such a day, and think we are crazy.

    Maybe if you opened your HEART & SOUL,

    and really allowed yourself to EXPERIENCE ""LIFE"", you too will have such a day. I can promise when you do, it will change you forever. In a postive way.

  • someone had an extra happy pill today didn't they? geez!

  • dat ws really amazing.. wat u said!!!! :)
