@VAspeed3, The system covers all of the energy used inside of the building with some to spare. With regards to the overall cost, there was an initial investment of just over $1mm.
Thanks, but I was wondering what the panels, materials, and installation cost was in real terms. And how much ofthe building's total energy use does this cover?
@VAspeed3 With the Progress Energy SunSense Program, they only allow for a 250 kw system on the rooftop of one address so that is what we were able to put up. The program is very economical and comes with great Federal and State benefits as well.
I have always been a firm supporter of solar power, from factory roof, the home, the barn/outbuildings and even cars. I have recently reserved a full hybrid car recently here in the UK, a Vauxhall Ampera (same as Chevrolet Volt in USA) and it could do with a panel on the roof to extend the battery range from 40 miles without intervention of the engine to around 60 miles. Excellent technology.
How much days of sunshine does North Carolina recieve?
@ROCKSOLID19 Thank you for your inquriy. The answer from the State Climate Office of North Carolina is "Sunshine is relatively abundant, the average annual percent of possible sunshine ranges from 58 to 65 at the various stations having sunshine recorders. An average of 126 days per year are clear, 117 partly cloudy, and 122 cloudy, while measurable rain falls on 120 days."
Just curious, but what would be the impact of a solar coronal mass ejection on these panels? Would you see a modern repeat of what happened in 1859?

What was the cost of this installation that delivers 322,500 KWH per year? looks like quite a few panels, but it does not cover the entire roof.
