Michael is completely wrong on children... They have to be treated as equal, otherwise you will externalize other problems as your authority through brute force will cause problems. You have to let the child experience things, and hurt himself if it has to be, but never, never raise a hand to your child. Every strike lowers the IQ of the child. It should feel pain from it's own wrongdoings, not from outside sources that are based purely on control and violence. But of course , it isn't easy.
