I nearly died laughing when I heard Tuvok say that. This is by far on of my favorite Voyager episodes. Great story line. I love it when Janeway confronts the Alien too. Some great lines in this whole episode.
"How can you tell when she has a headache and when she doesn't? Doesn't she always act like this?"
no due to them being lost with the possibility of never getting home she is the one who allowed things to get so lax on board. partially out of guilt and partially out of the realisation the standard operating procedure for an indeterminate amount of time on board ships tends to drive people mad.
Janeway: Yes damn it! How else can I make them fear me? And make sure Ensign Kim gets double, then scald his hands, just to be sure the message gets a cross. That doesn't work just kill Neelix, lord know he's been asking for it. Hell use one of my new death rays I've been making on him if you want.
She eventually does. Her fiance breaks up with her and finds (and marries) another woman. She has a relationship with a holo character on a holodeck program, and sleeps with him. She feels guilty about it later, and for falling in love with a hologram, Chakotay and the Doctor both tell her it's ok, and that she can't have a relationship with anyone on the ship because she's their superior, and that a holographic character is fine.
The whole point of the episode was the crew was secretly being experimented on. The aliens doing the experiments were "cloaked" in a way so they couldn't be seen or felt. Most of the crew had instruments attached to them. They cranked up Janeway's dopamine levels, kept her awake for 4 days, and gave her a splitting headache for that length of time. She was really pissed at this point.
Individual writers have different qualities. Some scripts were great, some sucked. Some writers were openly criticized, some admitted their stuff didn't come out as good as they liked.
The episode you are referring to had aliens abducting crew members, performing experiments on them, and erasing their memories. It was an analogy to alien abduction. This episode had cloaked aliens performing experiements undetected. I think it's different enuf to not call it "unimaginative."
beyond a moment in heavens when a vulcan makes a comment like that, only a fly on the wall can really let loose a laughter from the depths of infinity ! DAMN that was one of the most funniest sequences with star trek !
she carries those needles in her head rather well!... you can't blame a woman for being testy! Considering Tom and B'Elanna were being so insensitive Kathryn's boyfriend is stuck in sickbay all ugly and bout to die and shes got needles stuck in her head! Give the poor girl a break! lol
Vulcans love reminding humans how young a species they are, and how "uncivilized" they were up until recently (from their perspective). They are a tad hypocritical in that sense though, because half the Vulcan race went on to become the universally despised Romulans, who are treacherous, barbarous, cruel, practice slavery (not even the Klingons do that) and are known for stabbing their friends in the back at the first opportunity. For all their faults, humans remained unified.

Needles in the head is never good. I mean, a bad headache is one thing, but actual needles.... *shudders* Ouch.
Still, lol. Love Tuvok. Deadpan delivery always helps with those kinds of lines, and with Vulcans its practically guaranteed.
