I've heard several people mention not going through the same hole twice when retightening, but how do you prevent that if you have to do more than one revolution or when going from 9 to 3 and then 3 to 9 or 6 to 12 and then 12 to 6? It seems like you would be going through the same hole. I hope my question makes sense.
@thepoetzwife yes your question makes sense. Provided you follow the rotation correctly you will not go through the same hole twice. The only time I have gone through the same hole is when I have been interrupted and forgot where I left off - other than that you should be okay. Just be sure to always remember where you left off.
@Mizsamone What happens if you don't have enough new growth to complete a full rotation or if you have more new growth after completing a full rotation, but not quite enough to do a second full rotation? Will this cause holes or issues? Would it be okay to do just a 9 to 3 and 12 to 6 rotation if you didn't have enough new growth or adding just a 9 to 3 and 12 to 6 after doing a full rotation if you don't have quite enough new growth to complete another full rotation. Thank you for your help!
Hello....your locs look very nice. This video was very informational. I'm thinking on taking the retightening class when they have one available in my area. I've been locked 1 year now. Keep the videos coming.
@1stblkbarbie Thank you. If you start to do your own retightening - I recommend that you continue to visit your consultant every several months so she keep an eye on hair.. I didn't do that and ran into a few problems by using shampoos with two much oil. I've since returned to the Sisterlocks starter shampoo.
@hashim06 Loc patterns differ for everyone. To tighten the locs I follow the face of the clock to help me remember what order to go in. This is important so I don't create holes. To tighten my locs I start at the 9 hand then I work my way around the clock. Everyone may start and stop at a different hand depending on how their locs were started. Hope this helps.
I would like to know the texture of your hair how does your hair feel. im just thinking that thorough the process of interlocking that the hair will feel course.
@healingbalministries Hi, it feels like natural braided hair without the synthetic weave braided in - if that makes sense. I love the feel and am always playing in my hair.
Hi, your SL is great and looks really heathy. Iam from South Africa, an I would like to know where can purchse the retighten tool. I tried all that is available here but your is really easy to use and faster to retighten. Thanks . Latoya
Where did you take the retightening class? Is there a phone number ? You are doing a good job on your hair. I have sisterloc for almost 3 months now and the retightening is expensive so far. I have to see the loctician every 4 weeks.
@gloryb2g From my SL consultant in Detroit - Locks 4 Life. Thanks for the compliment - good luck on your journey and welcome to the Sisterlocks Family!!!!
@Mizsamone Hi, your SL is great and looks really heathy. Iam from South Africa, an I would like to know where can purchse the retighten tool. I tried all that is available here but your is really easy to use and faster to retighten. Thanks . Latoya
@Mizsamone Hi, your SL is great and looks really heathy. Iam from South Africa, an I would like to know where can I purchase the retighten tool. I tried all that r available here but your is really easy to use and faster to retighten. Thanks . Latoya
@vintagemoth Over the past 2.5 years I have tried several different products. I just recently started using
One n Only Argan Oil Moisturizer Shampoo, Conditioner and Oil Treatment. I wash my hair weekly using these products and it seems to help. It has a nice scent and leaves my hair shiny. You can purchase the products at Sally Beauty Supply. I like it - hopefully it will work for you too.
@nailprincess85 That was the same reason I started doing my own hair. The retightening class was expensive, but I broke even after doing my third self retightening.
@JimSwag87 I am using a Sisterlocks retightening tool. I imagine that it will work on any Sisterlock length. Traditional dreds and Sisterlocks are slightly different in how they are started and new growth maintenance, so I am not sure if the tool will work - check with your loctician - good luck.
Dear Mizsamone, I would like to know if you could tell me how to get a hold to that retightening tool with the latch on the end of the hook so it wont come out of your hair, thats the tool I am talking about, how can i get one of those tools. Please email me at legsec2003@yahoo.com to let me know. I am not sure how to operate this you tube thing yet so, its best to get me that information through my email. Thanks
this is so awesome... I have lost my job and so torn with cuting off or going to traditional. this gives me hope. where do I get the tool. ydean2@yaoo.com
@naomirain Good for you. Be sure to separate your locs - when I first started I wasn't as careful as I should have been and tigthened a couple locs together and had to cut them.
sorry but i dont feel like you did that good of a job in showing how to do a retightening. your arm was in the way most the time. next time if you can put your head to the camera and show exactly what you're doing it would be more helpful.
@Mizsamone im strongly considering it. the money i put aside for a retightening had to go towards something else, but i need my hair done so... i figure id give it a go. if other ppl can do it i dont see why i cant learn..
anyhow i am looking forward to more SL vids from you.
Hello and yes your locs are fab..I've been locked for 18 months and I've cosidered taking the re-tightening class for Sisterlock wearers, but if I can avoid doing so that would suit me well too. Do you have any idea what so ever where I can find that tool? Maybe a website? The person who taught you? I really like that tool. Thank you. Keep up the good work.
You can only get the official Sisterlocks tools from the Sisterlocks Home office when you take the retightening class. The retightening classes are offered all over the country by Master Trainers for the Sisterlocks company. Look on the official website for the class schedule.
@rsoftlips Thank you! My tool came with the retightening class package. Your Sisterlock consultant may be certified to teach the retightening class - however, she will charge you a hefty fee. It took me two retightenings before I broke even. It is a lot of work doing my own hair, but it saves me a 2.5 hour drive to my consultant and $125 each visit!
this was a wonderful video. There is not lot of information n sisterlocks...also where did you take your class? Your hair is beautiful by the way and hang in there....keep your spiritual antennas!!
I am so thankfful you showed yourself doing your retightening. I want sisterlocks, but I had become hesitant because I wasn't sure if I would be able to handle getting them. I have kinky twist right now because I wanted more new growth. Thank you for your tips and telling me how long it takes you to do it. At least you are doing it yourself. Keep your locks pretty please. I get sad when people take them out.
@trivie70 Thank you for the encouraging words. I have no intentions of cutting or removing my locks. I love them too much. It does take some time to make the decision to lock. Continue to view blogs and Youtube on Sisterlocks and who knows maybe you will decide to join the sisterhood. Take care.
Your hair is gorgeous. I have been retightening my hair too because I get a lot of new growth as well as slippage. I have combined som locks together and was able to get them aloose after trial and error. It savesa lof of money.
I am glad you enjoyed the video. I struggled trying to find pictures, videos and information when I was doing my research, so hopefully this help someone else on their journey.
thanks for the vid. it's great that you're able to manage your own hair. more money in your pocket i am sure. I must say this is the first time i've seen a tutorial on youtube with the SL tool. I am not sure why people are so hesitant to show it.
Thank you! Getting Sisterlocks was the best decision I ever made about my hair. I go anywhere between 6 & 7 weeks. I received my tool when I took my retightening class last September. At first, it was frustrating doing my own retightening, but now I have the hang of it and I am saving money.
