Brilliant Video! To the Indvidualists who have tried to crtique this you need to read up on the concept of society as a mutually beneficient scheme, read some Rawls, Barry and to some extent Walzer.
Trying to show that the state, via negative discourse, can make taboo the idea of entitlement, which, in turn, has a profound impact on citizens' psychology.See the link between "culture" & "personality?"This one's got everything:the acquisition (under parental pressure) of meaning through socialization (guided learning).
The passive acceptance of this "truth" supports a societal structure (designed by and for elites). And the working classes are going to be easier to co-opt due to powerlessness, poverty, & ignorance. They become unwitting but not unwilling accomplices in their own demise (false consciousness). One last point:culture is not evenly distributed. Some individuals may disapprove of entitlements; others-perhaps the children of social workers-may want their government to provide them.
you miss the point--entitlements are a commentary on personhood: the government that takes your money (mostly for defense) and provides shabby schools and bridges that collapse, doesn't think much of its citizens. little wonder we rank low on the happiness index.
At 1:30- its the individual's money. An income tax implys that gov owns individuals. That money should be left in the pockets of those who earn it. Socialism implys that we are unable to take care of ourselves and freedom does not work. should there not be a land where people can choose to live freely under a government who's sole role is to ensure the individual's rights and life(from external harm, not themselves). Or is there no place for liberty anymore?
same with corporations - look at the disappearing pensions of millions of americans. i work for your company for 25 years and then you go bankrupt and the deal we made all the years ago is null and void, but don't worry the board who back dated their shares cashed out early before anyone was the wiser.
there are two ways governments harness the power of the people to do their will, socialism and fascism, and just as the reactionary right and radical left ends of the political spectrum are remarkably similar, so are socialism and fascism. mousellini explained fascism as corporatism, when gov and corporations collude. thsi is what we see in america and haas given capitalism a bad name.
in your case gov should have taken the homes and assets of those board members and given all the employees whatever amount of their pesions that money could fund. but instead all those corporations are on the Council on Foreign Relations along with bush, cheny, obama and hillary deciding our foreign policy and allowing the privately owned federal reserve steal from americans by manipulating the money supply. "inflation is the hidden confiscation of wealth"-Alan Greenspan
but in any case i would probably not trust any institution(maybeeee the gov) to continue to pay me after retirement in cash or healthcare fees after i retired, if i was in that position.

Ah yes that bastion of moral fortitude Geral Ford who personally okayed the East Timor genocide. As an individualist/anti-statist you seem to miss the ironic nature of citing a quote from the head of state.
