If they had the right lawyers and a team of bankers to help them with investments and there money they wouldnt need to work. However, Here in Canada every year you have to claim on your tax how much intrest you spent in one year and you are taxed as if it were your income. I have been around money my whole life and I (lol) want to win the lottery to be a farmer. Here in canada were I am from land is very very expensive. so after I got that and put a simple house on it I would buy a commercail heated green house and grow vegtables. As far as purchased things, I dont need things. I am happy with what I have. As far as people living on extreme budjets and going hog wild. where was there bank rep, lawyers? Some times money is a blessing depending on how its spent.

I always imagine that starting an unsucessful business is the most common way people lose vast fortunes extremely quickly. And the vast majority of new businesses fail. Bear in mind most US lotteries pay out in installments (Edward Ugel's 'Money for Nothing' gives a look at the lottery payout consolidation industry).
