if your dog knows how to roll over, then you're half way there.

you just stop him/her from rolling over and add a hand signature (gun) when he is laying on his side.

the sausage/worstje is a way for me to tell people dogs do not speak english/dutch.

we just used the command for a trick thats normaly called "beg" (i believe).

how to teach it:

place you dog in a "sit" position in front of you.

take a treat, hold it in front of it's nose and let him/her follow it upward until he "begs"

i never use forse on Milo, i only use his desire for a treat.

Milo will follow the treat in, lets say a "sausage" position.

just hold the treat abouve your dog and it will follow it... don't release the treat unless he gets to sit on his butt :)

the "BENG!!" is a half "Roll over" if he can do that , you only have to stop him half way and make sure he is calm and not hyper, or else it would not work

You've sure done wonders with your own. Ours, I believe has primarily been an outdoors dog, her entire life...so her indoor manners are not so good. She's calmer outside then she is inside. We'd like to train her to stay in a 'certain space,' like near one of our chairs, where we can keep a close eye on her, until we can work out not getting into things, and the 'puppy training phase.'

She likes sleeping with a blanket.

make sure you can only "punish" her when you caught her red handed.

if you scare them at that moment they know the've been bad, do that a couple of times more and they will know ;)

We had a jack wander into our house in the country a couple of weeks ago. Looks like we have a new dog. She's so sweet and loving and obviously very intelligent. She looks as if she'd been starved down so our main goal now is to get her healthy. Marvelous dog you have there. Very inspirational.

you can teach your doge some comment if you have anything he or she wants (a treat or tennisbal, you name it)

make him a bit obsesed about it and he / she will do ANYTHING to get it.

but ofcourse you want your dog to do some tricks for it.

you have to make some hand gestures first ( a dog does not speak a language ;)

a simple one is get him to lie down

just place the treat between his front legs and simply release it when he lies down

that's the behavour you want, so reward him

the "BANG" trick is a simple one if your Milo knows how to roll over.

in fact, it's a half roll, so you have to stop him in the middle and work from there ;)

if your dog know how tie lay down (or even beter, roll-over) it's easy to teach.

"beng" is only half of a "roll over" and to compair it with lay down, jou just have to help him/het to tumble over.

take small steps and lots of rewards/treats ;)

@Romily205 have you tryed to hold a treat down on the floor between his/her front legs ?

that way you can force her to bend trough her/his knee's.

and simply release the treat when your dog makes a move in the right direction.

just remember it will not be a full "down" the first time. but you can accurrage him/her with steps into the right direction.

assuming you are getting a puppy

rule number one, DON'T wake up your puppy when it's asleep, you might get an hyperactive jack russel that way.

rule number 2 your dog does not understand english, so don't blame him for not understanding you ;)

tip of the day:

make sure you have some small treats with you ALL the time, so you can reward him when he does something good :)

4 month's old is a PERFECT age to teach your pup tha most basic tricks.

first you must find out what he/she likes (dog candy)

you will need 2 tipes of training treats

the "normal" treat to lure him in the way you want

and a "better" one for what i call a JACKPOT moment (that's if he does it just the way you want it to happen.

one of the first things you have to teach your pup is his name.

when you call out his name and the dog reacts

give him a treat

when your dog is reacting pretty fast give him the "better" treat

remember, a puppy does not understand english, spanish, dutch or whatever laguage you want to use, so be patient and repeat the tricks/commands daily

a dog has a short term memory base of about 3 or 4 minutes

ah yeah, if you are training your dog, make sure you play with him between lessons, that way you keep your "student's" attention ;)

jack russels are about 300 to 400 euro's (without Family Tree) it was the best 300 euro's i ever spend ;)

how much they eat depends on what you give them. Milo eats a big bag of dog food in a month, and he gets that jucy cup food for dinner.

Milo has a dog bowl filled with dog food all over the day and can eat that whenever he's hungry. so for the normal dog food we pay about 20 euro's a month and the cup food is about 0.50 cents a day.

for exaple:

a young puppy needs his sleep, when you wake him up constantly you will defenetly get a hyperactive dog.

besides, if you are a calm and gentle person, the dog will copy that ;)

Ya just gotta love Jack Russells. I taught my JRT Sally to jump up, spin around, sit down, lay down and roll over all in just an hour or so.

Now she's 14 years old and grumpy, I can't get her to do just one trick anymore. Once I try to get her to do one, she jumps up, spins around, sits down, lays down and rolls over, all the while growling and snarling at me.

I can't help but laugh that she gets so angry about it, but she always forgives me when I give her a treat.
