  • reminds me of transformers... i know its far from being a transformer, i just feel like it...=D

  • THIS IS A SCAM!!!! HE TAKES YOUR MONEY AND YOU GET NO KIT!!!!

NO E MAILS RETURNED... FUCK YOU ASSHOLE!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • It's serious art and design isn't it. Thanks for sharing that man.

  • The animation is done using XARA. xara is a rather good alternative to illustrator and yes I used the same programme for some of the design although lots was just done with scissors and paper.

  • Is the animation of the mechanism done in a program, where you designed this sculpture?

  • simply unleash it on the pitiful humans and sit back as it conquers the world.

  • That´s awesome! HOw the hell do you do that?

  • Why not set it down?

  • @Jesusdragon737

see "Paper Kinetic Horse KIT VERSION ! "

  • lols wat u sell ? paper horses? lels

  • OMFG a moonwalking horse. Most epic thing I ever saw!!! Kinda...

  • WOW THAT IS AWESOME! I am astonished that the complicated movement of a 4 legged animal can be summed up in the rotation of 1 motor! OMG!

  • magnifique!!

  • Have you ever tried Phun to simulate your mechanisms? It seems well suited to kinetic sculpture design.

  • its a scrab from odd world :D

  • Very nice.

  • Good stuff, sir.

  • It might be hard but.....a tutorial plz!!!

  • I sell a kit including all the motors and stuff. Follow the links in the info section.

  • what program do u use at the beginning?

  • it loks like its backwards moonwalking

  • Great getting a ritmical movement

  • Tell me the song title, please

  • Ride a White Horse' by 'GOLDFRAPP'

  • thanks a lot!)

  • Muito Bom Mesmo!!!!

  • YOU ARE GOD

    but does it work?

  • yes it works

  • @kantana1022 the original design for the motion is actually Theo Jansen's. Now he really IS a god. look him up on youtube!

  • When you hold it in midair like that, it looks more like its moonwalking...

  • This is waaaaay kewl, I want 1 !!

  • Very cool. Wish I knew how to do this.

  • Couldn't have though of a better song for this video. Well done!!

  • make it out of aluminum, beef up the linkages, drop a hemi in it ..., AND I'M GONE

  • ok, i've been following links.., now how or where can i get the kit,

  • Comment removed

  • can it walk or will the weight of the motor crush it's legs?

  • wow cool

  • supercool!

  • now you can make a bicycle horse, coooooooollll,...

  • very inspiring

  • fucking amazing.

  • WOH, are you kidding, thats amazing.

  • another imitation

  • of what? inspired by Theo Jansen I freely admit and acknowledge but other than that?

  • nice work, now make that wind powered :>

  • como c llama la cancion???

  • Goldfrapp "Ride a White Horse"

  • GENIAL

  • hey i just look at the vedio n found it amazing..i do have plan to make one of my own.but not with paper..so can u suggest some other material. i would be highly greatful.

  • I made one from copper sheet (pic on my web site) and if you look through some of my favourited vids you'll find a few other people have made similar things in other materials.

  • thanx for your reply. can you please give me the dimensions of various part. i will be highly greatful.

  • I made the kit so I didn't have to answer that question any more.

  • sir

thats so great of you to have made a kit. But I am in a real hurry as I have no much time left and your kit might take long time to arrive. It would be very very helpful if you send me information about the dimensions.

  • i like lonely head by gold frap

  • how is it powered

  • Battery in my hand although I've gone on to do computer operated and solar powered versions.

See some of my other vids or click on the link in the info bar

  • So... it's not kinetically powered. It's cool, but you might want to fix the description :)

  • What do you think 'kinetically powered' means?

This is electrically or chemically powered but anything in motion is kinetic and possesses kinetic energy.

  • I'm not trying to discredit you -- the sculpture is awesome! But kinetically powered would be powered by its own motion / energy, similar to Theo Jansen's work (which is independent of electric power).

Or did I misunderstand that your creation is actually independent of motors / electricity?

  • Jansen's machines are powered by the wind as far as I know. A kinetic sculpture is simply a sculpture that moves.

  • for song look in the information about viedo

  • The movements are so smooth.

  • SONG?????????

  • Wheres the tail??? A triangle with another triangle dangling down would have spelled out horse essence better.

  • Ez annyira tetszik , akárki találta ki okos !

  • Theo Jansen is a cool artist...

But it seems to be limping :)

  • I think it's more like a swagger.

  • Deffinatley a swagger.

  • Tham thas fuc**&^% cool...

  • pretty cool =OD

  • interesting :D

  • The tune is great!! goldfrapp in that horse...

  • song?

  • this song reminds me of tony hawks american waste land.

  • the link you put there is not working!!

  • it's working for me at the mo. try it again perhaps? Or have a word with your isp.

  • I thought it was a spide at first!

  • can it supot is on whate :)

  • yes. see :

    Paper Kinetic Horse KIT VERSION!

    if you don't believe me.

  • Must have taken a while to work out the folding pattern of the paper.

  • Schön anzuschauen.

  • yay this somg wwas on nfs carbon :D

  • ...

    1) It's in the "About The Video" text

Music credit: 'Ride a White Horse' by 'GOLDFRAPP'

    2) How hard is it to google the lyrics to find the actual name of the song

  • Pretty hard imo, but I'm very lazy, so much so, that I may go to all lower case from here on out .

  • It's one thing to be lazy when instant messaging someone...but when typing a comment you should at least take the time to check spelling and case.

Not to mention the name of the song was mentioned in the "About This Video" box...

  • What made this video "amazing" was the choice of song.

It gives it that dream-like essence.

    Major props

  • amazing

  • ya. thats sir. teo jansen works

  • yup as stated in the 'About This Video' box.

  • sweet hesus dude u destroyed my world! this is incredible and i thought i was a good inventor omfg man how did u come up with this??? PERFECT JOB!

  • Beauty...

    Good job!

  • Hehe! Look at her go!

  • why did you hold it the whole time?

    let it walk!!

  • See my later videos like "Paper Kinetic Horse KIT VERSION !" it walks in that.

  • very nice - especially the nodding head. problem with simple rotation is that it doesn't really catch the mechanics of animal walk. a horse in 'walk mode' wouldn't have two feet in the air at the same time.

basically the step sequence is left front, right end, right front, left end whith three feet moving on ground and one making a step.

tricky to adjust. check out various (pod point) traces with geometer's sketchpad.

  • check out the Eadweard Muybridg animations on my web page. One shows a horse walking swiftly but not quite in a trot. It has the same 2 opposing legs lifted gate.

  • actually...they can be trained to walk like that...

  • Very cool!!!!

  • trollbombz exclaimed

"Put it on the flipping floor".

May I direct you to my video entitled

"Paper Kinetic Horse KIT VERSION !"

    :)

  • I Like it.. it's cute..

  • zillion times better than dead 3D

  • dead 3d?

  • well you know - - - computer 3D, paper 3D has more heart in it (just my humble view)

  • Ah I see. :) was a little confused as I've also posted 3D movies of the horses (not CG 3d but 3D like in the old 1950s sci-fi monster movies).

  • amazing

  • A kit version of the Kinetic Horse is finally available. See the 'About This Video' box for more details.

  • Különleges! Nem egy átlag cucc! WOW

    egy körmozgás töképetes átalakítása:)))

  • I want to be first on your list. Please sign it as the first one so I can have it as a collector item! Let me know how to accomplish this.

    thanks

  • Hey! Thanks for your great work! This vid inspired me a while ago to build a Theo Jansen inspired robot. I'll post it as a video response soon.

    Cheers,

    William

  • I look forward to seeing that.

BTW I'm about half way through creating a tidied up version of this for people to make as a kit :) Takes 10 sheets of A4 paper. I'm thinking of selling it as a kit including the pattern on cd for you to print yourself + the motor, gear box, axle and nuts 'n bolts.. basicly everything you need except the card (which you can source and print yourself.

How does that sound to people?

  • can they actually walk, like if u put them on a table?

  • you'd have to strap 2 of them together side by side to get stability and maybe make the foot a bit less tapered but other than that, yes, no problem.

  • I love Theo Jansen's work, I love this, you better get a copyright before you release plans! rofl :P

  • an eledctric motor right?

  • yes

  • thats amazing!

  • is there a viedo on how to make one of these things ?

  • no.. but.. ok I PROMISE I'll try and get a kit together over chritmas - I just have another project I need to finish first.

  • ah thx alot man that would be soo cool! and just out of curiosity whats ur new project ?

  • a commercial paper engineering project.

See my web page for the kind of thing.

(although I am also working on some really cool sculptures based on mutoscopes).

  • beautiful, five*

I'm thinking of making one, maybe out of metal.

  • cool.

  • sweet!

  • whats the name of that song :P

  • 'Ride a White Horse' by 'GOLDFRAPP'

Read the credits before asking dumb questions T_T

  • amazing

  • Kewl man! :D

  • how da hell did u mak dis?

    its som insane shit

u shud make a vid on how to make it

  • Very inspiring, Marblemad. I see the ecentric turning axis powering the motion. But I'm wondering how the folds are created. Do you have a link to a more detailed explanation. I'd like to attempt one with my kids.

  • dats awesome

  • awesome!!!

  • I keep coming back to this video-sculptural-creation. I can't get enough of it. I saw your other new video with the solar powered pieces too. Please Please P L E A S E sell me one of your marvelous works so I can set it to your music and spend hours staring wide-eyed at it's hypnotic movements.

  • very nice work and an interesting work of art and science

  • you said it.

  • hahhahahahahahahhhahahahahahahahhaahahahhhahahahahahashahhaahahahahahahahahahahah je ziet een ijzertje aan de binnenkant fake!!!!!!!!

  • eh? Bablefish has let me down on this one. What are you saying?

  • Duuhh! Anders kan die toch nie bewegen???!!!Het is juist gaaf dat met zo weinig je zoveel kan.

  • Congratulations! Amazing work! I loved it and I agree with tuskerado about the music.'Ride a White Horse' by 'GOLDFRAPP' is also great.

  • Thats not a horse !

  • If you analyse the youtube vid. You can create one by your self :-). I've tried it, yes it isn't as good as the original but it works :-). I've made some screenshots from the layout, the front, side and back and created a kinetic horse :-) look at my horse-youtube-vid.

  • lol i bet it doesnt even work on the table. this is just copying jansen

  • it is? does jansen not even work on the table either?

  • Could i please get a template or something to make this??

I am a novice kinetic enthusiast and would like this to start off with

I would give you full credit of course

  • Thank you I Just loved this! great work. Liked the music too, who is it??

  • Goldfrapp: "ride a white horse" from the album Supernature

  • I would have liked to actually see it walk on a table or something...a bit disapointing, but still pretty cool.

  • rockin!

  • I have never seen a horse move its head that much when walking unless it was lame.

  • I've never seen a horse powered by a tiny motor before either... Lol lighten up. This is fantastic, great work!

  • I know, not trying to be mean :D

  • don't worry about it :) You're quite right. The motion of the head was the first thing I fixed in the second version.

  • Ok, sorry! :)

  • This looks great!

  • It realy seams to be alive!

  • i wish it had no motor

  • I don't know but this video really makes my day.

    It's Awesome.

  • try to do with this manner a CAMEL...nice job+art!

  • FUUUCK isch das GEIL ey, verdammmt, will auch so eins, mit nur einem motor!! so eine schöne bewegung!! ich bin neidisch!

  • Oh man. That thing's grooving to the music man!

IT'S FREAKING GROOVIN TO THE MUSIC.

    Awesome.

  • Like several others here, I want one! How can I get you to sell me one?

  • ok if you really want one there's a couple of options. I recently flew a few of these in an art show hanging from computer operated power lines. I'm going to retrofit these with solar power and sell them.

ALSO because not everyone can afford that kind of art I am thinking of doing them as a kit. Just a few $ and some very simple soldering and you make it yourself. It wont be this version as I've made some improvements . I hope to have a bit more on this ready in a week or 2.

  • marblemad i suggest the first 500 you assemble it yourselve with your signature to cover starting expences and first 400 sell to japan...they will like it....

  • that'll only take me 1 and a half years :)

  • she has nice legs....understand!

  • Well this was 6 months ago, but I know its a busy life we live. Still I keep checking back, hoping you are ready to send a kit. I may be interested in the one in the art show. How much ?

  • I have 3 horses and 3 giraffe. They are done in hand patterned oil pattern paper (this vid showes one of each)they are signed and are ready to hang in the sun. They are 90 UK pounds each.

  • However if you want to appreciate how much work goes into one and don't want to spend very much money I am going to make a real effort to put a kit version together over the holidays. I promise I'll try but if you read on a little you'll see i do have another project to get through first and they've already paid so they have to take priority :)

  • correction this shows the prototype - the ones F.S. are shown in my other vid.

  • I don't understand why the kinetic sculptures moves are so similar to the biological movements!!

  • wow beautiful work, love that it's solar powered! You should disguise yer fingers as the horsemen! lol, great job!

  • dang thats friggn awsome man!

  • really awsome

    excelente amigo mio

  • wicked video, the horse looks like its dancing to the beat. Perfect song. The walk is so realistic, you can easyily imagine it walking in a like a snowy background, or a lush green forest. Im gonna have to make one. Quick question, that was asked before, can it actually walk on a surface? Cuz that would make it that much better!

  • I've actually never tried it. I think it may tip (looking at the theo jansen machines they all apear to have more than 2 sets of legs. I did think of building something like a horse and trap. That'd definitely work.. If the feet were quite wide and the horse a bit sturdier it may work. I've got a small army of these animals here at the moment (3 horses larger than that one and 3 giraffes). When I get time I may try fitting one with a small power source and posting the results here.

  • I keep watching this over and over. Too cool.

  • incredible. And beautiful.

  • very cool

  • partly inspired? nice work but you've got to give Jansen a little more credit than that.

  • i could credit many insparations. He, I chose to mention and also to add to the search tag. If I said the piece was wholely inspired by him it'd be to ignore many other sources. The paper automatons of Rob Ives for example or the early experimental films of Eadweard Muybridge just to name a couple.
