I truly think that people who worry about the y bone are not fish eaters any way. You lose to much meat this way, Cooking the whole fish is the way to get the best taste anyway.. bones are bones, you just go around them while eating that great meat that you lose. But I quess it's nice to have boneless, just hate to waste that much meat,,, Good job, good catch
That was a small northern. Near the dam where I grew up, there are northern pike that grow to over 5' in length. Some would not fit in our tub. The heads would be down by the drain & the tails were sticking up & out of the other end. Some were as big around as a football. Dad use to catch them all the time like that, more than one every few days. I think northern pike is the best tasting fish. Grew up on them. The rivers is polluted now & the big fish all died. Thanks to DDT and PBB poisoning.
@TheLOLReally Dad use to pull them out too before cutting them into steaks. I hardly ever found a bone, only on the smaller ones. The Y bones are easier to spot in the big northerns, just pull them out. The biggest pike I ever caught was 39 1/2".
To all the people saying this guy sucks and his technique sucks... Please shut the fuck up? No one cares if you think he sucks, hes just showing you how to fillet a pike, obviously with practice you get better at it. I dont see any of you jackass' posting videos of yourselves filleting a fish better than him, so until then, use your brain before you leave a retarded comment.
white fish are the best, filleted correctly, i go to the mac straits (Michigan US) every summer and I have a great friend that brings me freshies right off the boat evey morning I am there..... accomos are great but i can only pan fry, what a wonderfull taste of nature that is..... yum yum yum.... steak and eggs??? how about white fish and eggs.... ok... gotta cook now
you should look at cutco's knife's there like apparently the worlds sharpest knifes and we have them the fishing one is like a line cutter/sharpener/fishholder/fillet knife and works great

oh man i love fishing in Canada. When you go up there the locals hate the pike lol. If you do a beer batter or a bread crumb. they are just damn good

Can someone tell me why so many people waste the skin? Why not simply scale the fish? Skin is what gives it the lovely crunchy taste.
