@RWSThe101 Surrealism is pure psychic automatism. Dictation of thought in the absence of all control exercised by reason, outside of all aesthetic and moral preoccupation. Surrealism is based on the belief in the omnipotence of dream, in the disinterested play of thought. Do you understand it now?
@circae2012 Сон ведь некое продолжение дневной активности мозга который всегда в путах морали..этики..совести особенно(как части эго).Поэтому сюрреализм лишь иллюзия свободы от этого.Лишь выражение вечной мечты к свободе духа.
@gracefulstumbles I Think it was inspired by Thomas Crown Affair. I thought it was excellent. Really got me jumping round in my seat, tapping my toe and enjoying the work. But in a different mind set I might not have liked it either. Today - it added a sense of fun & dynamism to something that is usually dry & sombre - it really cheered me up! 8-D
In my opinion, Rene Magritte was by far the best surrealist because he rooted it in a very matter of fact presentation- still life if you like. He carried this through in the way he dressed- he dressed professionally and soberly in a bowler hat and suit. Combined with elements like the chess pieces in his work, this gives his work a sturdy and classical feel. It was serious stuff in a way that i don't think that flamboyant Dali, whose work so effortlessly adorns drippy student's walls, was.
Missing one of my favorites! "On the Threshold of Liberty". I am honored that that painting is in the Art Institute of Chicago, as I am able to access it with ease!
The logic about the picture ''Ceci n'est pas une pipe.'' (This is not an pipe) is it really is not a pipe. It is ONLY an image of a pipe. Rene Magritte said it himself that if it IS an pipe then..can you grab it and use it to smoke if it is a pipe? ..Did it make sense? This is why I love surrealism. And the point of that painting is most of the people..or just all people rely to their visions, not with their minds.
Go to the kulturbulenz channel and check out the trailer for "Mémoire de la nuit", a surrealistic theatre-piece inspired by René Magritte, quite extra-ordinary too!

rene magritte was against automatism, also against psychoanalysme. His work was the end of a long thinking and working progress. He asked advice at his friends and sometimes used their advice. Above a painter he was a poetic thinker who used painting as a way to express, shock and wake up the people
this art perceives true reality, our dreams: day dreams and night dreams. our mind, has limited conditioned vision of our true nature. more and more children will become awake to observe past and future objects/subjects without even thinking about it. Like instruments, record players, sheet music, etc.

Does Kandinsky count? Don't know if he's surrealism, or impressionism, or abstract. He did a lot of swirling musical notes and instruments.
mikejackson4ever 2 years ago
Kandinsky was all of those. His work was abstract, it was influenced by Impressionism. His later pictures were quite surreal.
He's mostly described as an Expressionist. That's exaggerating elements such as colour and shapes to create an emotional effect.
