I've been lucky so far. I bought a 8 GB stick. My memory stick seems to be alright. The contacts look pretty good and the memory is 7588 MB so it has most of the stated 8 GB. But its not MagicGate supported...

Informative vid mate. Theres an ebay seller i know of in the uk (my mate got scammed of him selling the memory cards lol), n hes still allowed to sell the fakes.

The fakes can fail at anytime and you could lose all the data on them (I did with the one in my phone years ago. which was a fake 2gb card). I wasnt too bothered tho as i had the data backed-up. The thing on ebay is....these people are selling the fakes for a couple of quid cheaper than the real deal ones you can buy elsewhere.

...I was gonna get a 16gb micro sdhc card on ebay, the guy who sells the fake ones is charging 21.50 or some shit like that (obviously great for him if tonnes of people are buying them by the thousand each month). The genuine ones on amazon (which i went for in the end) cost 24-26 pound. Which is good considering they are less likely to fail as quick as the fake chinese ones.

If it ever says that MagicGate is Unknown, than it is in all situations a fake memory card. Sony ONLY produces Memory Stick PRO Duo SD cards that are secured by MagicGate, so even if your memory card still seems to work fine, it is still fake and you run the risk of getting all your files deleted at one point when you either add too much memory that exceeds the fake card size (usually somewhere between 2-3 GB even though its a 4 GB card) or your card gets no longer works for being a fake.

Bummer my 2GB is fake and yes I got it off ebay a long time ago. I did notice the transfer speed wasn't up to par and some of my wording has faded now but it must be a good fake cause thats the only noticeable clues that it is fake. But the psp magicgate says unknown so its a fake. Also it feels slightly lighter than my other real cards... if you can notice their weight at all... but there is a slight difference.
