I'm away to see this with my school tonight. I went to see Journey's End with them and I don't know if it was the production or the script, but it was terrible... I take it this is good, then?
I had the privilege of watching this last night at the Grand Opera House in Belfast. The acting was superb and it kept me on the edge of my seat. Amazing show :)
Going to see this in April with a friend - we've both read the play and this looks amazing.
People who get their knickers in a twist over some of the...liberal...interpretation of stage directions (example: "almost threatening her" apparently becoming "about to smash her face in with a glass vase"!) need to relax - if it slavishly adhered to Priestley's original, I doubt it would be so overwhelmingly critically acclaimed.
Interesting. I'm studying this now at school, an didn't imagine the play like this at all. The old black and white version is nothing like this as well. I would like to see this as it looks a lot more thrilling and muh more true to the actios trhe characters took in the play.
I actually saw the play ages ago but its memory still gives me the shivers! Seriously, the trailer does it no justice, its actually INCREDIBLE and not nearly as contrived or dramatic as the trailer suggests.
I urge anyone interested in good theatre and social politics to go see it NOW.
@SimonFoston this production has been running for a good 10 yearsor so in the west end and touring nationally. Having been 3 times I can assure you that it is an excellent rendition of Priestley's most iconic and important play.
@RatPackLive "great idea for a thriller"?? It's nearly 100 years old! It's a classic - and it's not really a thriller. It's a story of socialism versus capitalism and the importance of understanding the impact of one's actions upon others and the cumulative effect that society has on the poorest and most vulnerable.
I love this play - I've seen it 3 times now in London and Brighton.
I'm not a socialist, but the way Priestley brings together the actions of a group of people and shows you how things can work together to have cumulative effect is spectacular. This was written after the war - but set before it, and you might say hindsight is a brilliant thing, and I guess that's true. But the message is the same and "If men will not learn that lesson, then they will be taught it in fire, blood and anguish."
I saw this at the Wyndhams Theatre..Absoloutely Astounding, the set was brilliant...and the music...I recommend highly...I hasn't a clue what it was about and now we're using it for our GCSE English Lit exam :P
Saw this in West End recently. Was the actor David Roper, who was in tv sit com A Cookoo's waltz, and briefly in Eastenders, the one who played Mr Bisley? (not the actor in this ad)

THAT is critically acclaimed? It looks like a horrendous mangling of the original play, reeking with pretention and awful ham acting.
