  • Great music, yes...but good old days? Nixon in the White House? The Manson Family looking for victims? My Lai happened the year before...in '68 Bobby Kennedy and Dr. King were both assassinated...the Zodiac was on the prowl...Altamont...the country was in the midst of a terrible division...Let's agree that the soundtrack was great, but maybe the movie was a little lacking...

  • @kurtmanerz1 Nixon was not conservative enough.

  • Yep, great song....

  • THIS SONG IS SO INCREDIBLE - HEARD ON HARRY'S LAW - BEEN SEARCHING - THANK YOU YOU TUBE AND JEFFREY - WHAT ELSE DOES THIS GROUP DO OR SING? CAN THIS STILL BE PURCHASED? - THIS IS JUST SO A W E S O M E.....SPARKLER

    BRASIL.

  • Awesome! Thanks for posting!

  • I miss my papa so much..this is his favorite song dedicated to my mother

  • You are all so right! The good old days.. what great music and fun!! Its great hearing this song again.. brings back alot of memories!! Love it!!

  • My veetle dot com station plays a 60’s countdown every weekday. The week of July 4th, I’ll be doing a countdown from July 1969 with this song on it. (This week is 1967) Come join us under the music tab: Current & Classic Radio Shows!

  • Love the opening guitar intro----just a great song, baby!!!!

  • What a great song, again, and again and again. Like spud1254, I was in high school when this song came out. A truly authentic "one hit wonder." I can listen to this song and be a teenager, all over again. Music is like a calendar for me. I'm 60 now, and I really like 60s music. For me, "They were the best of times...."

  • Great song! I was in high school when this song aired. Good ol' days!

  • Memories...

  • The 60s were my childhood (I turned 1 in 1960 and was 10 the year this song came out), so the songs of the period are so magical -- this one was one of my favorites of the decade -- great song!

  • great song !!!

  • I REMBER DRIVING IN SOUTH FLA.AT NIGHT LISTENING TO COUSIN BRUCE ON WABC 770 FROM NYC PLAYING THIS GREAT SONG.

  • You guys with these posts must be about my age (60) and share the same great memories I have. Songs like this are just as good 40 years later as they were in the late 1960s. Those really were "the good old days." I'm not sure I'm up to going back to them now, but, with songs like this, I don't have to. All I have to do is listen, and I'm there. Those days were a lot of fun.

  • This song was on the radio of my Dad's new 1969 Chevrolet Caprice as we drove it home from the dealer, Bob Bain Chevrolet on Transit road in Buffalo New York. Olympic gold two door Coupt with hideaway headlights, Oh the memories........

  • Thank You :)

  • Great memories! One of those tunes that I couldn't get out of my head back in the day - pledging my love. :)

  • One of the truly fantastic songs to come out of B town,Buffalo,N,Y,

  • One of those great gems that found it's way into the Top 40 ad then the group vanishes. I have never forgotten this song and still love hearing it today. Thanks for posting.

  • So simple, so pure, so beautiful!

  • Man, this song reminds of days as a kid in the backyard with the AM transistor radio - great memories!

  • @Drewster58 ----I feel the same way, that radioand those simple tunes were the background to our life!!!!

  • An all time hit Song, a One Hit Wonde,r Fantastic

  • Grande canção .....

  • wonderful!

  • Good song......wow!!!!r

  • A great old school soul song! Takes me back.

  • Does anyone know who the trumpet player was in this song. Listen carefully to the trumpet - that was amazing talent back then! If you listen close and you know your music, you'll agree with me when I say, it sounds just like the trumpets in Herb Albert and the Tiajuana Brass. I loved listening to him when I was 15/16 in between the Beatles and Herman's Hermit, of course! lol My range of music interest was so diverse back then - most kids were only focused on one sound - I loved many.

  • brings me back to my teens...awesome

  • let´s dance ... all night looooooooooooooooooooong!

  • Another great song from the days when the AM wavelength ruled!

  • Awesome =) that's a nice music!!

  • A música mais linda do mundo!! The world's most beautiful song!!!

  • GREAT!

  • Great song, lyrics and that ....drum......I still have the 45 record.....love this song !

  • @TXBluebird The song is available for 99 cents on iTunes in an album called "My Pledge of Love." I could only hear the 1-minute preview but it sounded like the original to me as far as I could tell. I'm in my 50's, and I love this song (and your story too!)

  • @affectivity Thanks, I will look into it. I've been out of town, so sorry I didn't answer you sooner. My bf isn't as romantic as I am, so we will see what happens. But I loved this when I heard it on the oldies cable channel. Listen to it quite often now. Keep in touch. I don't have any friends that love the oldies like I do. I'm 58.

  • @TobeyAnne - Just wanted to say I'm sorry about your father being gone. It must have been so fun being his daughter listening to great music all your life. I know you must miss him a lot. I LOVE this Song!! You should gather all his music together and make a new CD for all of us to enjoy! My best wishes to you and your family.

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!! I have an oldies channel on cable and when it came on about a month ago - I just flipped!! I had not heard it in so very many years - now I can't get enough of it. I'm dating someone that lives 6 hr away and he ALWAYS says "I woke up this morning thinking about you" and I pretty much do the same! lol - We're in our 50's and this is now "our song" forever. I had forgotten about this song since it's rarely played - so to all the people that made this song possible - Tk U!

  • My dad Ron Browning was the drummer for the Joe Jeffrey Group. He died about 14 years ago. He was very talented and is missed.

  • This song is covered and kept alive by The Nightwalkers in Cleveland, Ohio. An excellent tune with an upbeat and soulful groove. It does have a feel and touch of Otis Redding in there.

  • I had the 45 cut , sorry for your loss , that's a great beat , Love the Song - :)) QC

  • To those wondering, I am pretty sure that he died. I think it was in the early '70's. His death was caused due to either a fire or carbon monoxide (can't remember exactly which) from a faulty space heater. He was staying at a motel/hotel. Again, not exactly sure.

  • My friend produced this record.

  • nice toe tapper

  • Joe Jeffrey used to play at the Three Coins on Niagara Falls Blvd in Amherst. He was soooooooo good!

  • NIIAAAAAGARA FALLS! Slowly I turned ...

  • The last verse reminds me of Otis Redding.

  • great tune, always puts a smile on my face. Love to sing it. Great lyrics. :)

  • love this song......r a

  • Awesome guitar work. It really drives this song. I wish I was sitting in front of the amplifer when they made this. Lead guitar parts get all the glory but the guitar playing in this song is just great.

Valentine's Day is coming up and this song says it all.

  • Greatest song ever. A guy requested this song to his dying wife. He and Wolfman Jack cried as Wolfman played it.

  • Driving to Brooklyn going to work everyday under the elevated old West Side Highway in Manhattan then sitting in traffic watching as the Iron Workers built The World Trade Center this song would blast out of my truck radio. DAAANG, I miss those times...and ALL my Family & Friends who are no longer here. It feels like I'm ~ walking with the ghosts.......

  • Mr BIOHM...I was born in raised in Brooklyn, and I want to say, how much I respect people like you who have helped put things back together. All I can say is this song and you are classic...God Bless you

  • for some reason I like it more when a woman sings this song..

But, of course, this version is excellent too!

  • listen to each instrament that adds in with each verse ---- great!!!

  • One of my favorite '60's songs. Wish it was available on CD. Sad story associated with this. From what I've heard Joe Jeffrey disappeared soon after this was released, and it is unknown what happened to him.

  • You mean kidnapped? One of the greatest records ever made.

  • ived looked also - theres nothing --- there was someone on line saying they were the drummers daughter - i dont know i never got answers back ---- you find any info please - please let me know ---- thanks - emjr65

  • When I first heard the song, I thought it was The Animals with Eric Burdon.

  • Ha ha, what a coincidence. I live in Newcastle Upon Tyne in the UK, where the Animals came from. Believe it or not they still tour, though without Burdon obviously.

  • Im from England and had never heard this song before. It isnt known over here.

What a fantasitic song. It sounds a bit Jackie Wilson to me. Great.

  • What you know about Jackie Wilson in England?

Just kidding you. I know you guys are pretty hip to the music scene. You have given the world a wealth of first class talent. Beatles, Stones,

Sir Douglas, Lulu and the up coming Leona Lewis just to name a few. Sent a little time in London. Loved it.

  • That should read..... spent a little time in London.

    Yes, I loved it.

  • I mean the general sound, obviously not the singing.

  • The guitar strumming is awsome.

  • Got a lot on my mind right now, music like this takes me back to a much better time....

Thank you so very much for the posting, its helps more than youll ever realize.

  • i know the feelin -- aint it great we have this to take us away for just a few min. !!!!

  • Sweet memories from the summer of 1969. How I wished I could go back in a time machine to my neighborhood and home and all the people I loved back then. Life seemed so simple back then. A great time to be an 11 yr old kid.

  • It was indeed a great time. Life was simpler, people were more civil and kind.

And the music was awesome. My next door neighbor use to take us to the beach in her Valiant and blast this song on the radio. What a great time to be a kid.

  • Hey sphmusak, Those Plymouth Valiants were some great cars. They were made to last. Great memories. Where did you grow up at?

  • beautiful, sunny Southern California.

  • Nice
