This a great song love the oldies I am stuck in 60s and 70s grew up on Miami Beach FL hearing these songs on my transister radio after school fishing and hearing all the best they dont make songs like this any more BG
Great music, yes...but good old days? Nixon in the White House? The Manson Family looking for victims? My Lai happened the year before...in '68 Bobby Kennedy and Dr. King were both assassinated...the Zodiac was on the prowl...Altamont...the country was in the midst of a terrible division...Let's agree that the soundtrack was great, but maybe the movie was a little lacking...
THIS SONG IS SO INCREDIBLE - HEARD ON HARRY'S LAW - BEEN SEARCHING - THANK YOU YOU TUBE AND JEFFREY - WHAT ELSE DOES THIS GROUP DO OR SING? CAN THIS STILL BE PURCHASED? - THIS IS JUST SO A W E S O M E.....SPARKLER
My veetle dot com station plays a 60’s countdown every weekday. The week of July 4th, I’ll be doing a countdown from July 1969 with this song on it. (This week is 1967) Come join us under the music tab: Current & Classic Radio Shows!
What a great song, again, and again and again. Like spud1254, I was in high school when this song came out. A truly authentic "one hit wonder." I can listen to this song and be a teenager, all over again. Music is like a calendar for me. I'm 60 now, and I really like 60s music. For me, "They were the best of times...."
The 60s were my childhood (I turned 1 in 1960 and was 10 the year this song came out), so the songs of the period are so magical -- this one was one of my favorites of the decade -- great song!
You guys with these posts must be about my age (60) and share the same great memories I have. Songs like this are just as good 40 years later as they were in the late 1960s. Those really were "the good old days." I'm not sure I'm up to going back to them now, but, with songs like this, I don't have to. All I have to do is listen, and I'm there. Those days were a lot of fun.
This song was on the radio of my Dad's new 1969 Chevrolet Caprice as we drove it home from the dealer, Bob Bain Chevrolet on Transit road in Buffalo New York. Olympic gold two door Coupt with hideaway headlights, Oh the memories........
One of those great gems that found it's way into the Top 40 ad then the group vanishes. I have never forgotten this song and still love hearing it today. Thanks for posting.
Does anyone know who the trumpet player was in this song. Listen carefully to the trumpet - that was amazing talent back then! If you listen close and you know your music, you'll agree with me when I say, it sounds just like the trumpets in Herb Albert and the Tiajuana Brass. I loved listening to him when I was 15/16 in between the Beatles and Herman's Hermit, of course! lol My range of music interest was so diverse back then - most kids were only focused on one sound - I loved many.
@danb101790 You have the 45?!?!?!? OMG - please make me a copy to disc and I will pay you for copying it for me! I would love to be able to play this in my car! My email is: weller1011@yahoo.com Let me know what you would charge. I LOVE this song! Thanks :)
@TXBluebird The song is available for 99 cents on iTunes in an album called "My Pledge of Love." I could only hear the 1-minute preview but it sounded like the original to me as far as I could tell. I'm in my 50's, and I love this song (and your story too!)
@affectivity Thanks, I will look into it. I've been out of town, so sorry I didn't answer you sooner. My bf isn't as romantic as I am, so we will see what happens. But I loved this when I heard it on the oldies cable channel. Listen to it quite often now. Keep in touch. I don't have any friends that love the oldies like I do. I'm 58.
@TobeyAnne - Just wanted to say I'm sorry about your father being gone. It must have been so fun being his daughter listening to great music all your life. I know you must miss him a lot. I LOVE this Song!! You should gather all his music together and make a new CD for all of us to enjoy! My best wishes to you and your family.
I LOVE THIS SONG!!!!! I have an oldies channel on cable and when it came on about a month ago - I just flipped!! I had not heard it in so very many years - now I can't get enough of it. I'm dating someone that lives 6 hr away and he ALWAYS says "I woke up this morning thinking about you" and I pretty much do the same! lol - We're in our 50's and this is now "our song" forever. I had forgotten about this song since it's rarely played - so to all the people that made this song possible - Tk U!
@TOBEYANNE hey tobeanne foreshame i am still listen'n every day still my favorite song ever made god bless your father/drummer that made it all possible for me to enjoy thanks jr
This song is covered and kept alive by The Nightwalkers in Cleveland, Ohio. An excellent tune with an upbeat and soulful groove. It does have a feel and touch of Otis Redding in there.
To those wondering, I am pretty sure that he died. I think it was in the early '70's. His death was caused due to either a fire or carbon monoxide (can't remember exactly which) from a faulty space heater. He was staying at a motel/hotel. Again, not exactly sure.
Awesome guitar work. It really drives this song. I wish I was sitting in front of the amplifer when they made this. Lead guitar parts get all the glory but the guitar playing in this song is just great.
Valentine's Day is coming up and this song says it all.

Ha ha, what a coincidence. I live in Newcastle Upon Tyne in the UK, where the Animals came from. Believe it or not they still tour, though without Burdon obviously.
Sweet memories from the summer of 1969. How I wished I could go back in a time machine to my neighborhood and home and all the people I loved back then. Life seemed so simple back then. A great time to be an 11 yr old kid.
It was indeed a great time. Life was simpler, people were more civil and kind.
And the music was awesome. My next door neighbor use to take us to the beach in her Valiant and blast this song on the radio. What a great time to be a kid.

When I first heard the song, I thought it was The Animals with Eric Burdon.

Ha ha, what a coincidence. I live in Newcastle Upon Tyne in the UK, where the Animals came from. Believe it or not they still tour, though without Burdon obviously.

Im from England and had never heard this song before. It isnt known over here.
What a fantasitic song. It sounds a bit Jackie Wilson to me. Great.
ScallywagTV 3 years ago
What you know about Jackie Wilson in England?
Just kidding you. I know you guys are pretty hip to the music scene. You have given the world a wealth of first class talent. Beatles, Stones,
Sir Douglas, Lulu and the up coming Leona Lewis just to name a few. Sent a little time in London. Loved it.

That should read..... spent a little time in London.
Yes, I loved it.

I mean the general sound, obviously not the singing.

1969 produced so many classic pop songs. This is one of my faves. Hard to find, so glad I can hear it on youtube.

Hey sphmusak, Those Plymouth Valiants were some great cars. They were made to last. Great memories. Where did you grow up at?
