  • Am I the only one who saw the Touching Evil pilot when they used this version?

  • @Akodo81 yes you're alone

  • Open a new tab or window with this same exact video playing, now start one of them and 14 seconds in exactly start the other one, you will not be disappointed

  • @loler621 you sir, are a genius. that just brought a whole new level to a song i already loved

  • @darac1991 Thank you haha I did on accident too!

  • @loler621 i was disapointed..... i can see how it could like up... but mine couldent do that

  • @Shmowkittykitty You gotta do it perfectly

  • I love how listening to a song performed sparks political debates. Get the fuck out of the coffee shops you pacifist hipsters, and actually put your fucking money where your mouth is.

  • @Maloney001

    Awesome...i love it x]

  • My brother said he wants this song to be played at his funeral when he passes away. Thumbs up if you feel him on that!!

  • Music is here, we're listening... its not dead

  • NIN fan since I was a kid...still love him

  • I feel like crying my eyes out right now, this song is really helping.

  • This is so beautiful.

  • this has to be the best version of the song (there so many of them) but i am pretty dam sure this stomps them all out

  • Makes me wonder...what would i do in life

without it all just being a faded memory...

  • @hallorand9 amen to that.. i've never experienced anything that creates and enhances such a contrast of emotions. Definitely taking this one to the grave.

  • There can't seriously be anyone on Earth who dislikes this song.

  • A breath is always new and fresh. The heave is decay and death.

    Breathe

    Heave

    Breathe

    Heave

    Breathe

  • Goddamn Trent damn !!!! YOU ARE A MUSIC GOD!!!!

  • God... what a genius.

  • Melodic,

    inspiring,

    emotional,

    fantastic !

  • 4 people need to go away

  • This song is just amazing. The video is gorgeous too. Thanks for uploading such a pretty song by NIN.

  • life can be fucking lonely

  • @welderMTL I wont say I know how you feel, but I'm also familiar with a kind of pain that is unique to me. Just listen to this song like what I do. You will feel better. :)

  • nice video!!

    great video!

  • best version of TDTWWA ever in my opinion.

  • This is the best version of TDTWWWA in my opinion.

  • when listening to this I am melting like a butter on a skillet

  • 2012 Theme Song.

  • @ScionofEntropy This was from The Fragile not Year Zero, :-)

  • That plant with the big orange cone (flower) is real, in case in anyone was wondering. It's a Banksia.

  • today my whole world went away...

  • @Hunhrer So deep, you should write a song about that...

  • @angie4josh good idea but there's a guy called Trent did that once :)

  • @Hunhrer You dont say!.. my goodness you are right.

  • Should've left this one as an instrumental...

  • hey fucko. yea you. you missed the like button. correct your mi

    stake.

  • Three people missed the like button. Or they just suck.

  • Por más melómano que soy, pocas canciones he encontrado tan épicas y profundas como esta en toda mi vida. Obra maestra.

  • if this doesnt change your life then i dont know what will

  • I think the still version is much better than the original...Deeper, and hence captures the essence of the song beautifully.

  • @Breakneckhydra The song is great, just that one user's comment was corny. Dont know why its a favorite.

  • Great video!! Where can I get hold of a higher quality version?

  • @ryanprinsloo the still album

  • Best version; perfect mix.

  • what an amazing song

  • its not that we hate music today, we hate what it represents, the almighty dollar. Atleast the 90s had some bands where money wasnt everything tool, nin, nirvana, limp bizkit(sorta) and others im just to tired to think. Today I have a hard time finding underground bands, it seems like no band wants to be the underground band, they wanna be the mainstream wanna bees. Its not that no1 from this generation isnttalented, they are just wasting the talent they might have. MTV has won and music died

  • @TheNineinchsnails

They have hardly won. Given, the youth of this generation buy into all the shit the media shoves down their throats, but I guess I still hold out hope. I like to think that there are still people, such as yourself I suppose, that think for themselves and not what they want you to. Give it time, I have a feeling there will be a resurgence of the individual in the near future. Either that, or it's all going to hell. In which case, I'll see you there... :)

  • @Ensomniak86 hahaa dude that comment made me smile so hard! I'll see you guys there too. Peace :)

  • @Ensomniak86 not all the youth, i don't, i hate listening to rap and techno and anything the media shoves down my throat. I love avenged sevenfold, disturbed, muse, metallica, bullet for my valentine, and anything i headbang to

    ps. I'm 16 btw

  • @nwiley619

    pal, you're so misguided.......

find your own bands. (maybe its just me, my ipod consists of bands you've never heard of)

  • @wtfmandudeguy1 oh, the loneliness of having endless gigabytes of bands no one's ever heard of.

  • @Ensomniak86 Great speech, I´ll let you do the thinking for me from now on.

  • @TheNineinchsnails there are good bands in the so called "underground" Not every artists is corporate, and by the way music never dies

  • @joshxip music is on hiatus, I suppose

  • @TheNineinchsnails You are "having trouble finding" underground bands? Are you some kind of fucking moron? Do you not live within a hundred miles of any cities? Are you unaware that there exist bands who have not produced albums being sold in stores?

  • @Trepazzan umadbro?

  • @TheNineinchsnails Not working this time, he has too good of a point to cop out with that.

  • @TheNineinchsnails right on the nail. Music was never meant to become mundane, and that's ecactly what happened with it.

  • TRENT is a genious.. cant get enough of his music.. everyone that talks shit about this guy is a douche. and you can suck it..

  • had a thumb up there ass that day

  • trent's best song? I think so.

  • I listened to this song quite a bit when my dog died... Why do sad songs make you feel better? Weird.

  • @theshninja

not weird. it's understandable. knowing that you are not the only depressed person is quite therapeutic.

  • I love the black snake in this video so beautiful

  • 2:25 - 5:01 is just perfect.

  • It is easy to feel it. But choosing the correct words to describe it, or even to remember it. Sometimes impossible

  • This is so beautiful.

  • this song (either version) gets me every time, i almost have to give it a huge break in between every time i listen to it. very stirring

  • One of the most powerful song I have ever heard.

  • I wish the whole world would go away...

  • Beautiful!!

  • May Jeff's grandmother rest in peace. She is at a better place now. My thoughts are with Jeff and his family.

My interpretation is similar to that of insertcooluser. But my take on the scale is that things are not always what they appear to be. Sometimes things are beyond comprehension or our understanding or simply just does not make sense. There is a bigger picture out there. Just need to find it. It is a life journey and we will know it when we get there. Be strong Jeff...

  • you are acting like we are actual superheroes. what if you are wrong? what if this is it?

  • My post is not meant to spark a discussion or debate regarding religion of any type with anyone. If you re-read my post, it did say "MY TAKE" and it is exactly what that is, my own opinion and interpretation of what Reznor is trying to tell us. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and yours is included. Superheroes or not, good intent comes from within and it is others who can judge our own actions. Yes, I may be wrong but I may be right. If this is it, then make the best of it?

  • Quality matters more then quantity, i would assume this is also how Trent see his work.

    4:40

  • My interpretation of the video is that the flowers and stuff are the things that were precious to Trent Reznor during the time his grandmother was alive ( the song is abt the death of his grandmother - RIP) and that the black snake symbolises death or maybe a new begining for him since its like "shedding old skin". If you look the scales are tipped over with the heavier item being the lesser (stating the unfairness of life)... Well thats what i think anyway pls dont hurl verbal abuse at me

  • can i have that snake... plz trent????

  • this song is like beautiful heroin to my ears

  • love this song so much takes me back 2the gud old days lol trent reznor rules

  • love this song so much takes me back 2the gud old days lol trent reznor rules

  • gino t has got it..

  • So awesome!!!!

  • The meaning of life is measured by beauty! Beauty of the mind and soul leads to beauty of the body! Trent Reznor has created more than beautiful things. He made us understand the Beauty behind hatred, rage and insanity created by living in the cage. The light cannot survive without darkness; and the darkness gets lonely without light. I was born to die; but I am given the chance to live as one with myself, nature and my fellow humankind!!!!!

  • 3 people are bound to live meaningless lives

  • 3 people don't know what true music is.

  • Butiful song

  • I can't believe how Trent has made so much amazing, timeless and important music. This is an outstanding piece.

  • @Chuckiehestonsboy it makes you think...a lot,i use to hear it lately when i travel on train..watching the landscape passing by

  • Still is the best thing Trent Reznor ever made. Seriously, a lot of people cite The Downward Spiral as his peak, for one reason or another and I'm not saying it isn't great- because I fucking love The Downward Spiral. But, I genuinely believe Still is a masterpiece.

  • Escucho las palabras que dice,

pero en su voz escucho decadencia

la cara plastica es forzada a posar,

todo lo interior frio y gris,

ahi un lugar que aun recuerdo

asi es el miedo, asi es el dolor,

    el dulce precio que tiene que pagar;

el dia en que el mundo se fue "A CHINGAR A SU MADRE"

  • this is so beautiful :) *tear*

  • Trent. . .I Think I love you. . .XD

  • Last Winter... I would randomly go outside just to walk... Aimlessly... Thinking... Remembering... iPod on, with this song on repeat...

The coldest season, and the coldest time of my life. and just in the nick of time.. this song gave me that unique warmth in my chest. it blanketed me from all of the sheer cold.

and I will never lose respect for it.

  • @strokemybaggage91 i do the same thing its a shame that most music doesnt give u the same feeling like this one

  • @strokemybaggage91 I did something similar a couple of winters ago with the Vitamin Piano series version of the song - it's on iTunes and is, at least for me, extremely winter-y. Look it up.

  • @RichardParker887 thanks, sounds interesting, I'll have to give it a listen!:)

  • @strokemybaggage91 Love that man.

  • @strokemybaggage91 yea i know what you mean

  • @strokemybaggage91 I used to work ridiculously long shifts at a hotel around Christmas time, starting at midday and finishing at 4am. I would then have to walk 45 minutes to get to my house in the freezing cold, knowing full well that I have a shift at the same time tomorrow. I would put this song on repeat on my way home, and all my problems melted away. The very idea of my being felt obsolete, and I would walk home with the biggest smile. It was amazing.

  • i love it

  • colour and snake reminds me of a picture by franz von stuck called "die sünde" (sin)

  • Trent Reznor is God

  • @martyrization Agreed.

  • @martyrization amne

  • this is such a powerful song i love trent reznor my fav band of all time =)

  • Nice mix, great video

  • I hate snakes, they scare the living crap out of me, but when I see the black snake in the video slowly sliding through the smooth surface, everything just makes sense. The contrats is amazing, I feel peaceful around one of my biggest fears, and I just love it.

  • Everything in life is still and beautiful for the moment this song owns in my life.

  • i love this song so much

  • i love this man. he's a music-lover's prophet. <3

  • The whole Still cd sends shivers down my spine .

So softly played yet so powerful ,always leaves me in a deep state of mind .

  • man this song just makes me wanna think hard about something

  • Just beautiful... So peaceful...

  • this is my favorite version. I like the guitar rift in the begining of the first one but this one matches the tone of the lyrics the feeling of sadness and regret this one gets the lyrics message accross more powerfully

  • Got the instrumental of this song?

  • it's hard to come across songs like this. Trent Reznor is brilliant.

  • @emelcee3 i couldnt have said it better my self emelcee...brilliant it is

  • @emelcee3 sounds like lady haha got a few ideas here...

  • Awsome! To beautiful!!!

  • wow... thank you so much for this song!

  • Words can't describe just how much this song means to me. One of the best pieces I have ever come across.

  • its a shame no one respects this giver of life called earth. so much beauty besides our own skin.

  • @pawnsofamerica its an amazing spinning rock we live on, flying through space around a ball of fire, in an infinite number of systems repeating themselves, forever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever and ever

  • Comment removed

  • @pawnsofamerica Dont say No one respects because that's just not even close to the truth

  • @pawnsofamerica i know what you mean who ever you are

  • @pawnsofamerica Lame!!!!!!

  • @KAELIN250

What the fuck is your problem faggot.

  • i think this song is on their "And All That Could've Been" live cd. such a beautiful song.

  • Its off the 'Still' cd that came as a bonus disk to the cd you mentioned :)

  • =] This version is by far, my favorite version.

  • Seeing this live would be amazing. I think they played this at the NIN/JA show I went to this past summer at PNC Center in Homdel, NJ

  • i saw them during their v2.0 tour at madison square garden in new york a perfect circle opened up for them it was amazing ^_^

  • Great. nice

  • This is a beautiful version of this song, The still album is just amazing.

  • What is this version actually called?

When I type in "The Day The World Went Away (still)" I come up with different versions..

    Quiet?

    Still?

I don't know what it is, and it's so hard searching for it.

  • this is the version from the "Still" Album. the Quiet Version is the basis on which this version evolved, however this version contains more of an atmospheric and relaxed sound. they are both quite good tho, i recommend them both. as the quiet version has additional vocals by Kim Prevost who is a black female jazz artist in her mid 40's.

  • it's the best version !!

  • This song SLAYS me... Always a big fave live... alas no more live NIN... I sure hope Trent does some solo touring with just him on piano or acoustic guitar and vocal... Thanks for the NIN memories Trent...

  • NIN is not gone for ever. There was an interview Trent did with Digg and he stated that NIN was going to go away for a while. Also durring the final tour he did say that it wasnt for good. So don't fret too much id say in about 5 to 10 years we'll be seeing NIN returning to the stage

  • i love the acoustic jam session at the end, thanks for uploading, love the whole still album.

  • This song should be the official theme for the apocalypse.

  • This is one of reasons Nine Inch Nails is my favorite band.

  • This is an easter egg on the And All That Could Have Been dvd, for those who don't know

  • Oh shit how can one song make you feel all alone, and happy at the same time. Trent is a God of music.

  • awesome talent~ nin and trent inspire me!!!

great artistic video~ beautifull visuals and music~ just amazing! :)

  • Glorious act

  • I think it has something to do with platonism and the modern breakthrough

  • Obvious song about opium and heroin is obvious.

The pictures of the poppies kind of give it away.

  • It's about the death of his Grandmother actually.

  • If you bother to read the comments, the song you're talking about is called "I'm Looking Forward to Joining You, Finally"

    kthx.

  • Actually this song is also about his grandmother because the black and white parts of this video were from the original video of this song which was supposed to be Trent at a funeral.

  • You are right man. "I'm Looking Foward to Joining you Finally" is what they are thinking of. And yes this song is about opium kind of. More of the isolation you feel when everyone goes away after long term use, and how you kind of want them too. Hence the sweetest price you will ever pay the day the world went away. Peace!

  • it's not actually. do your homework. i've been a fan for a very long time and i know what i'm talking about, unlike yourself.

  • Well. Trent is actually an artist. Good artists are abstract and metaphorical. So the poppies can mean a number of things, one of them can be the lack of feeling. And the poppies could be on there because they take away pain as well. But that doesn't mean that it's about heroin and opium.

  • genius.

  • What a wonderful song. Trent is obviously a very deep man.

  • This man is a worldwide genius

  • This song is about trent's grandmother passing.

  • nope. that song would be I'm Looking Forward To Joining You, Finally.

  • I agree, while I love the heavy stuff like PHM,Broken[fixed], and TDS, I love the slower more pronounced and musical stuff. It shows a side of Trent that is the musical composer, great stuff.

  • Thats why I liked NIN when I heard more of them. Trent's music reflects himself and his views on things, whether it be slow and soft, fast and excited/angry or somewhere in the middle.

  • I don't know, but there's something about that image of the snake slithering in the sand that's awesome. Favorite part in the song/video.

  • 1:39- is trent hanging? seems to be dangling lifelessly
