But I can't I have a scripts file, ships, QBSHIPS for the name if the ships and I copy the stuff for the macros but I can't find a textures file? It's a Yamato Class BBX (Battleship Experimental). Not sure why they invented the Proxima Class for ST Legacy, the Yamato is way better. Still I guess as a Taldren/Interplay design, theres intellectual copyright issues with using it in Legacy

The good news for you is that if you hang on to the game, when you upgrade to vista someday, you'll be much happier, so don't trash it! If you need help with it on vista, just lemme know ;)
Fabian i can get it to work on Vista by setting it to windows 2000 but if the star field details are on the game starts to flicker white whe ni move. Do you know how to fix that ? By the looks of it you also have star fields off
also alternative clipping should be disabled as well. If you have to, when in 2000 compat mode, you may need to set it to run in 256 and disable desktop composition. There is a tutorial video on my youtube site- click my username and go there!
Ya i rated it 5 stars, im suprised more people dont know about the windows compatibility tool. I suggested they try all the windows versions becausej ust 98 didnt work for me.

probably one of the best/most realistic star trek games ever...wish they did a TNG version, and fixed it up for better-performing systems...the VOS was awesome...*sigh*
I am running xp and the game runs super slow. I disabled my Physics accelerator on my Nvidia card and it helped a bit but nothing else seems to work including changes in compatibility mode. I have a monster rig but can't seem to play this older game, any help appreciated

Unfortunately I do not as those were on their respective CD's and I lost my savegame.sav files from where I beat the game 8 years ago during a harddrive crash in 2001.

Dominion Wars, StarFleet COmmand3, Elite Force, Why is Star Trek such a disaster on PC? They should be making fantastic games with great characters, ships, stories, sound and visual spectaculars. Because they have all the resources from the series and films.

We have the same problems with Stargate. The only Trek games I've ever liked are Star Trek Armada 1 and 2 and Starfleet command 1. What the fans need to do if they truly want the best games is get togeather, create a company, and build their own truly great PC games.

I have to agree with you. I actually bought the PC version, then later got the 360 one used to replace it. The ultimate universe mod makes the PC one worth it though.
I believe that everything has its value based on its conceptual environment in the Gaming industry: PC Gaming is a different set of AI and CGI programming than console, thus the two should not be compared due to simply their obvious differences: I do this because I am nonetheless, nostalgic and found that finding enjoyment in a game doesn't always mean that game has to be the prevailing eyecandy everyone hypes about: A great game can be as simple as Chess and still shock and awe someone ;)
you will need to enable administrative privaledges and tweak it to run in 256 mode as your video card is probably trying to emulate the game in 16-32 bit visualization.
create a shortcut to ka on your desktop, right click and choose properities, and click compatibility- choose to run compatibility in windows 98- also set run as admin and 256.
Im not a programmer, but if theirs anything simple that needs doing to your cut down version of KA, id be happy to help in anyway I can, the game is worth it. Pitty the companies at the time didnt realise it

I have been having phenominal success with the game using my version of the vista OS.

True. Bridge Commander was a disapointment for me. The story and displays blew and the graphics were not sufficiently improved to compensate for all of the shortcomings of the game. Interplay knew how to make good Trek games. Activision seems to try to simplify the games (SFC3) probably to appeal to a wider audience but they just end up sawing off half the content of the previous trek games in a series and I think that actually hurts the game and its sales.
yeah activision, albeit pioneers in the gaming industry (and I respect them for that) have done their share of butchering excellent titles; I will say that I remember playing some awesome Activision games back in the early to mid 1980's when I was a teenager though! ;)
Ah home basic? yeah theres a lot of difference between home basic and the rest of them (home premium and above). Its possible that the differences in the OS are causing glitches.
yeah is a concern for me that within Vista's plethora of optional versions of its operating system, the more advanced the OS the more problems it will cause-

In fact, last night I ran the first of 3 "test drives" of my new creation and it performed beautifully! Not only that, I installed it onto win2000 Vista and my win98 laptop and had multiplayer battles with my daughter- she was on vista, I was on the win98 laptop! we HAD A BALL! we are using dsl so it was on our LAN but hey! we played for a gand total of 1 1/2 hours no glitches! back to work. test2=Win2000

Found out if you play your missions with the original ships as opposed to the MOD ships, creating their missions with qb2edit and using original star systems (no Mods)
Ka does not crash nearly as much if at all :)
The missions I created these 2 fraps videos were done this way so I found the correlation!
I am happy to announce that just today I played KA for almost 2 hours using missions I scripted this morning with qb2 but allowing only original ships and star systems...
The first successful non-glitching non-(this program has performed an illegal operation)Mission I have created is now in Video form and will posted here shortly;
I changed the video format to a 320 X 240 resolution so it may not work in max mode
I created it yesterday and Frapped it so it is ready to be uploaded here:
It is an example of scripting original system with original ingame Klingon BOPs (Birds of Prey) against the Original ingame U.S.S Constitution Class (Enterpise NCC1701)
update: brw63: I am having success with a completely stripped down version of Klingon Academy as it has dawned on me that instead of trying to put too much extra into the game, keeping it simple has had a much more profound and corrected effect!
hello Rossco010: I have still got minor issues with flickering but no starfield flickering; if you watch my latest video: 'Yamato2Kayless' the issue lies within the solar corona's flickering, and intermittent flickering of the ships, but the new video is much better imho! Fab
I play the game frequently using XP. I remember that the game would crash whenever a ship began to vent plasma. I turned off the particle emmitters, and that seems to have corrected the problem. There are some issues with the cutscenes that I have not been able to solve.
Vista likes the buggy graphics engine? Yeah because that holds an errant of truth... not!
The entire Klingon Academy community is having trouble running it on x86 and x64 Vista, with the strobe effect of the starfield.
Infact, your the only person ive come accross that claims to of gotten it to work in vista at all, and adding permissions and running in administrator does nothing at all.
How did you stop it from crashing? I have the same problem. Tried newer video drivers but that makes it so it doesn't run at all. Tried eliminating all unneccessary services and even cutting out the sound and still the same, under xp.
I don't believes it! There are still people out who plays this wonderful game? Golly, and i thought amma the only one... (yup, have the same problems with XP and that game, let's test that advise)

outer space is white because the option 'detailed starfield' needs to be unchecked.

Not only that, I installed it onto win2000 Vista and my win98 laptop and had multiplayer battles with my daughter- she was on vista, I was on the win98 laptop! we HAD A BALL! we are using dsl so it was on our LAN but hey! we played for a gand total of 1 1/2 hours no glitches! back to work. test2=Win2000

Yeah,Fabian, how did you get it to run in Vista? What ver. of Vista and what video card/drivers are you using? I have been trying to get KA to run for a while now and have about given up. Any help would great!

vid card doesn't always work but does ok with the game most of the time-
also note: this vid card is standard integrated/motherboard type that came with my Compaq presario tower I bought last feb-
1024 gig kingston ram
Always had good luck running KA with my presarios past and present-

Thanks Fabian. I am running an 8800GT card in a home built rig and I think the Nvidia card is just too hi-tech for KA. I used to play it on a 6800GT in XP Pro and it ran great. Thanks for the reply!

Found out if you play your missions with the original ships as opposed to the MOD ships, creating their missions with qb2edit and using original star systems (no Mods)
Ka does not crash nearly as much if at all :)
The missions I created these 2 fraps videos were done this way so I found the correlation!
I am happy to announce that just today I played KA for almost 2 hours using missions I scripted this morning with qb2 but allowing only original ships and star systems...

Update:
The first successful non-glitching non-(this program has performed an illegal operation)Mission I have created is now in Video form and will posted here shortly;
I changed the video format to a 320 X 240 resolution so it may not work in max mode
I created it yesterday and Frapped it so it is ready to be uploaded here:
It is an example of scripting original system with original ingame Klingon BOPs (Birds of Prey) against the Original ingame U.S.S Constitution Class (Enterpise NCC1701)

update: brw63: I am having success with a completely stripped down version of Klingon Academy as it has dawned on me that instead of trying to put too much extra into the game, keeping it simple has had a much more profound and corrected effect!

I am experimenting with running KA on Ubuntu and Wine. It looks promising.

hello Rossco010: I have still got minor issues with flickering but no starfield flickering; if you watch my latest video: 'Yamato2Kayless' the issue lies within the solar corona's flickering, and intermittent flickering of the ships, but the new video is much better imho! Fab

I play the game frequently using XP. I remember that the game would crash whenever a ship began to vent plasma. I turned off the particle emmitters, and that seems to have corrected the problem. There are some issues with the cutscenes that I have not been able to solve.

Vista likes the buggy graphics engine? Yeah because that holds an errant of truth... not!
The entire Klingon Academy community is having trouble running it on x86 and x64 Vista, with the strobe effect of the starfield.
Infact, your the only person ive come accross that claims to of gotten it to work in vista at all, and adding permissions and running in administrator does nothing at all.

yeah it used to do me like that on xp and man I would get so frustrated; It tested my patience which I found to be extremely good-
I love this game and continue to develop and Mod it- TREK FOREVER!

How did you stop it from crashing? I have the same problem. Tried newer video drivers but that makes it so it doesn't run at all. Tried eliminating all unneccessary services and even cutting out the sound and still the same, under xp.

Yes they are supposed to be now, but the timeline of this simulation was during StarTrek 6: Undiscovered Country
which set into motion the Khittomer Peace Talks between The Federation and the Klingons.

The Game works terribly with all versions of windows xp-
It also has been glitching lately with vista-
It seems to be a leap of faith to play it but it works ok enough on Vista for me to enjoy.

i have stability issues with this game, always kicks out and no one seems to give me good advice.....i use windows xp pro sp 2 any tips on getting it to run well??
