Enya has a beautiful Musical Voice which i would love to hear without benefits of Acoustics. Does Anybody know that the English under Elizabeth 1st and her Bully oliver Cromwell sold tens of Thousands of Irish people into Slavery in the West Indies and the Amazon? In fact MORE Irish Slaves than Africans in those Regions. it happened in 1660's

Welsh was the language that J. R.R. Tolkien loved best. Welsh, German, Yiddish, Latin and others inspired the languages in LOTR. A linguistic genius, ahead of his time, he created a world in which his invented languages could be spoken. He was a scholar and a gentleman. Enya's voice is beautiful, Iceland is lovely, too. Thank you zakharii for sharing. Lastly, Lord of the Rings is not a trilogy but ONE book published in three volumes. Living is learning, and it should be a fun, not a drudgery.
I love this song :-) My mom used to play Enya a lot when I was growing up. Our house was a very small one in a rural area, so the music always felt like it belonged, if that makes sense. Whenever I listen to her music it reminds me of nice childhood memories :-)
Irish is NOT a made up language and goes back thousands of years, to the time of the Druids and before. To compare it to the Lord of the Rings trilogy is not only insulting but extremely naive. To learn more about the origins of irish as well as the other languages that make up the 'Gaelic" family I suggest you find online courses or books or there is always TG4 the website to familiarize you with it.
@nategforthewin hey :) I speak Irish as well, and I don't find anything anyone's said insulting or naive. It is a fact that Tolkien was inpired partially by the gaelic languages when he created the languages for the elves. So far I haven't seen anyone who's claimed irish is made up... unless I missed it :p They are both beautiful languages!
Enya has such a smooth and melodious voice; it's very beautiful and calming. I feel she's underappreciated. I like her sing best when it's her voice alone, WITHOUT the synthesized instruments.
Beautiful music and language! Even if I don't understand nor speak a word of Gaelic, it sounds like such a "coming down" symphony to my ears....And Enya is of course a Must for that! Thanks for sharing the views of your "cold" country. I am originally from French Brittany and love Celtic and Irish music, with Gaelic language...Emmanuel.
Im from the USA, Texas to be exact and my family came from Scotland as ship builders and military before the revolution. Once we fought the Brits off we moved to Texas and their fought for Texas revolution and have been here ever since. The Gaelic/Scots/Irish helped form and create this great country of mine and although I love my country I still love my Scotland.
awesome photos. Never been there but love to do so some time. Looks cold though...
Enya is on of the Nad Clan (Clannad) and they come from Gaoth Dobhair in Donegal. So this is where the dialect is from. Gaoth Dobhair is a very small village on the North-west coast of Ireland.
Didn't know that Irish people settled in Iceland. Interesting...
@zakharii actually the norse took gaels from scotland and ireland there are entire islands in scotland where the norse killed all the men and took the women as slaves to iceland.
@zakharii yep its true, Icelandic dna is half Irish half Scandinavian.....sure ireland was populated by vikings and my city (dublin) was first founded by the vikings...............ps iceland is beautiful i would love to visit someday greetings from dublin :D
@tarostrasse Welsh is not related to Gaelic from scotland or Ireland, as the Gaelic speaking people were not celtic, although a lot of what they did has become definition of celtic through error, they unlike the welsh were not celtic in any way, they were simply Irish, and Scottish.. Ths scottish were an Irish tribe, the language is Irish, not celtic.

In Teelin, Donegal, North West Ireland there is a monument which reads
"In Memory of The Teelin Monks who sailed to Iceland in the 6th Century"
It is written in Irish Gaelic, English and Icelandic.

Really beautiful ;). I was singing along, lol! I just have one questions....why Gaelic with pictures of Iceland?
GaleOctober 1 year ago 8
@GaleOctober Thats because I live in Iceland and wanted to share some of the photos that I had
and Enya music was very nice as a background for presentation.
But Iceland was settled by Irish (Gaelic speaking) people too.
Actually many Icelanders are partially Irish in origin but still the most are Norwegians in origin.
Its a mixture.

@zakharii DNA tests shows that the people on Iceland have about 40% Celtic dna and 60% norwegian..

@96Bogg it does! Tolkien based elvish off of Gaelic partially, though mainly off Welsh gaelic and Finnish :)

@gwyndolynelizabeth Welsh is a Celtic language related to Scots and Irish Gaelic but it is not a form of Gaelic. They're all beautiful though
