IS THE MACBOOK AIR A NETBOOK!?! lol! Thanks for filling me in. I don't know what I would have done without you here to clarify that for me. Go blow up a subway or something, cheech! Who gives a shit!
your vid was pretty good, but i kind of lost you at 7:00.
I still consider the macbook air a netbook. However, I don't really get why considering it as a netbook is bad. It's like asking would you rather be the smartest of the dumbest or dumbest of the smartest. Following the analogy, the macbook air could either be the "smartest" of the netbook area or the "dumbest" in the laptop area. Personally, I would rather be the "smartest of the dumbest".
basically ur exactly right apple wont stoop as low as netbook status so they make a very high quality sort of netbook thing. But not really. its just ultra portable. it has the same power as a normal laptop just thinner
I am a windows user and I think you have some good points. The Macbook air is not a netbook, it shares some similarities. Like it is smaller then most computers(not netbooks) and it is portable. However the macbook air has more, memory, space and other stuff. I would prefer a Netbook because of the price. I have a netbook and I am content with it.
I also believe over time the line will be further blurred between a netbook, net top, ultraportable, and thin and light laptops largely due to dual core processors making their way into netbooks and the like.
I agree with your opinion, I am both a mac and windows user. I use the macbook air and I also own a netbook. They are completely two different entities. The Macbook air is indeed more of a lower powered laptop versus a netbook where the single core processor is truly the largest difference versus the macbook airs intel core 2 duo. There is a world of difference in terms of performance. The macbook air also has a full sized screen and keyboard that is backlit. There is no comparison between both!
well the macbook air was only 1.6GHz on it's release.that's pretty slow for an intel core 2 duo. intel core 2 solo not so much. but the macbook air had Intel Core 2 Duo 1.6GHz and Intel Integrated graphics 4500M HD
netbooks dont have dvd/cd drives, a mac air doesnt have a dvd/cd drive and theirs not low normal laptops that doesnt have dvd cd drives so a mac book air is a netbook case closed
lol case not closed, the Del Adamo does not have a optical drive, the Lenovo has the same specs but has a optical drive, the voodoo envy has same specs but no optical drive.lol. there way way too high specked to be netbook, have bigger screens and do not have atom processors...they are light, laptops with lower specs, but not as low as netbooks. so im afraid the case is not closed in terms of being a netbook, but the case is closed on it being a weaker standard laptop.
ya after i saw this vid i saw the dell adamo i was like well i guess im wrong haha idk to me i think its a netbook because of the lack of a dvd drive lol and any other computer with out a dvd drive is a netbook if they dont clam it lol
It's an ultraportable laptop. Check out the Lenovo X300, Dell Adamo, all these are ultraportable notebooks. They come at a high price (higher than the Macbook Air) and offer a lot more than a netbook. None of these laptops are netbooks. Netbooks are small, cheap, slow, net browsing devices.
ok cool, ur entitled to your opinion, but then ur kinda agreeing that the DELL ADAMO is also a rip off, because its more a less the same as the Macbook air
Wow, great video and great insight on this whole manner. Macbook air is like a bottom line laptop to me, it's a very weak low processor Macbook with ultra-portability which brings it's high price point.
nice video....5 stars, i would say that it is neither netbook or notebook, so people should stop trying to categorise it with other machines that aren't really the same type of technology.
The MacBook Air is very much like a MacBook but thinner, and without a disk drive. That is it. It's a normal laptop without a disk drive.
I also hate notebooks, they are literally built on people buying netbooks instead of a notebook because it's cheaper, smaller, and they don't know the difference.
I think the mistake we are making with this topic is that we are trying to force ourselves to put the Mac Book Air in a category. Its obvious that it has both netbook and notebook features so its not possible to put it in one definite category. I guess the only thing that makes this a discussion is that like you said the netbook definition keeps changing.
My Latin teacher has a MacBook Air 2008 and he also teaches Web Design and has CS4 Web Design on it. So that makes me think it is a fast machine. Although my 2003 Dell with 800 MHz does run Photoshop CS2 ok.

The way I look at it, is that the MacBook Air is a netbook compared to other Apple macbooks, because it is much more thinner and less in power compared to them. If you compare the MacBook Air to a Dell netbook, or other PC brand, no it is not a netbook because, its a much higher price, and it has features you wouldn't normally find in a netbook, such as a bigger screen. So yeah, it all depends on how you look at it.
oh ok, but don't forget Imort and shipping taxes, and even consider the validity of the garantee
When I put more thant 100€ into a piece of hardware I want some guarantees I won't lose that money 6mo or 1 year later because The waranty is not International
not sarcastic about abroad, English isn't my main language.
I don't travel, so buying electronic devices without international waranty is an issue for me, not even talking about computer without french AZERTY keyboard
I wouldn't consider it a netbook, it's far to expensive to be a netbook. The low end white macbook is closer to a netbook than anything else apple sells.
Your taking only the Price criteria, what about the specs, are White MacBooks as powerfull as PC netbooks, or a lot more?
NetBook even 2009's Netbooks are still less powerfull thant the MacBook Air, and Pricy PC equivalent to MacBook Air are still less powerfull (CPU+GPU, as they play on the RAM and storage).
But I'd agree to say that MBA is indeed expensive for the processing power you get, but is fair priced for the weight and dimensions (Dell Adamo, anyone?)
Sony made a crazy Small netbook (back pocket of a jeans but stil 2/3 outside of It), but also incredibly dense display (kinda 1280x720 on 6" display), let's say impossible to use with normal eyes, or normal fingers for that matter
yes that was the model I was thinking about, the probleme being, I'd need surgical upgrade to my fingers and eyes before considering to use such a small device and talking about expensive (for the 1.86GHz = 1999 USD !!!), the other models less powerfull yet having more I/O
well its not supposed to be used for writing a novel or redrawing a painting!
from the advert, it shows a sexy woman using it to video conference with her husband or boyfriend and also a man with a 6 pack listening to music using a sony application. similar to that of the psp where you can move between pictures and music and video.
for the video conferencing, thing I may get It, but for the "listening to music, watching pictures" part, an iPod/iPod touch/iPhone, do that part just fine (with any cheap self powered speakers, as I don't thing that tiny thing has better sound than that)
for the writing, part, even for what you describe, the tiny keyboard, and tiny yet full blow resolution screen still are an issue as long my fingers and my eyes are what they are : average-normal
aving touch keyboard, is a big + (since the 3.0 with the landscape everywhere).
I use daily 4 different keyboards, the point being that with physical keyboard on mobile device (not talking about net/notebook anymore) you're stuck with what is engraved on those keys, not on the iPhone/iPod touch
and with little good will , the virtual keyboard is -in my case- better than a cramped physical keyboard (I call them "thumboard").
Bloody hell this is a stupid topic (netbooks) lol. I mean, I get the point but who cares? Netbooks are pointless anyways, in all honesty. Are laptops not portable enough for you?? If a netbook can fit in your pocket, that's an iPhone for you. If it can fit in your bag, that's a laptop for you..
A netbook is something in-between an iPhone and a MacBook in terms of power and size. Do you really want something 5-10" versus a 4" iPhone or a 13" MacBook? What's the appeal in a netbook to begin with!
I think Apple would benefit from dropping the price of the Macbook Air and labeling it as a Netbook. Who wouldnt want a netbook with iMovie, iPhoto, and all that.
its still not a netbook, to me the fundamental thing is SIZE, 13.3 inch display to me isnt a netbook. but yes ill agree on dropping the price,, because this is the same as sayign drop the price of the dell adamo or voodoo envy, then its a netbook.when CLEARLY there not. just my view.lol.
To me, i can't consider the macbook Air a netbook because there's nothing really like it in the netbook family. What I mean is, there needs to be a netbook that compares to the Air in order for the Air to be seen as a netbook. Right now, there's not enough laptop's in the Air's "class", if you will, to expand the netbooks definition to include the macbook Air because there's simply not enough laptops like it. I don't know if that will make sense to anyone.
one more thing, You talk about how there may be Windows equivalents to the Macbook Air in terms of hardware specifications (atleast thats how I interpreted it), Well personally, I think that more factors then just hardware specifications factor in to whether a laptop is a netbook or not. For example, like you gave in your definition portability. When you were talking about similar Windows laptops in terms of hardware, you didn't discuss the other factors and what makes the macbook air different
nice video. another factor that the macbook air can be considered a netbook is that it doesn't have a dvd/cd drive. most windows based netbooks i have seen come out don't have that drive either.
To be honest, i don't think the macbook air is a netbook. a netbook is typically as you said Adrian 7" - 11" screen, they almost way nothing, and have low power. A macbook air is simply a aluminum macbook squashed down and less specs. in all i think the macbook air is a beautiful peace of technology how they stuffed all that stuff in there so is pretty cool, i wouldn't own a macbook air id rather have a macbook but thats my own opinion and everyone deserves one. Thanks -wacko506
I agree that calling the Macbook Air a "netbook" depends 100% on how you define a netbook. Whats the cut off on screen size? 10''? If so then then Macbook air is not a netbook. You can see where I'm going with this. Or do you define it by specs? If so there are some PC netbooks that can be bumped up to 2 gigs of RAM and a much bigger HD exceeding the specs of highend notebooks of just a few years ago.
At the moment its a unique product and Apple probably don't want it being given the netbook tag cos people will then be put off by the price. I look at it as a macbook for people who are willing to compromise on performance in order to gain some portability. But then again that sounds very netbook-like lol so I guess you're raising a very valid point.
Great video! I love Macs and Apple, but I personally hate the MacBook Air:
1. The price of $1,499 and $1,699 plus what is installed on it.
2. Why do we need a thin and feature less computer when we can get a MacBook for $999?
3. It isn't the most powerful computer that makes me think who is this computer for?
Now onto the Net Book thing. I think the Air isn't a net book for it's screen size, and what more it can do other than a PC Net Book. It is more powerful than a PC Net Book cont..
With iLife, iWork (if installed) and more make it nothing like a net book. I do agree that it is light and easy to carry around. The Air isn't the smartest thing Apple ever came out with. Instead Apple should replace the MacBook Air to an Apple Net Book, not necessarily a tablet. It would be a very interesting change. What I still wonder about the MacBook Air is who is made for? Not the student because the MacBook and MacBook Pros are what a student needs. cont..
For average older people (30-60) the desktop line of iMacs and Mac Pros are the main computers, but it depends if the are stationary or mobile and in that case MacBook Pros are for them. And where does the MacBook Air go? I don't know! Once again another great video and I will be making a video response on this later!
the only reason it has the price tag that it does is because macs only use premium hardware. PCs like Dell have the cheap side and premium side. if you buy a premium Dell it will be comparable to a mac in hardware AND price.
I think the MacBook Air is not a netbook, it's just the next step up.
It has similar computing power, in processing and in hard disk space. However, the screen size, the graphics solutions, and the memory make it clear that it is a true-to-form laptop.
And if you want portability, the MacBook Air is very similar to the MacBook, with a few additional features, it has fewer ports, which can be a big deal.
I do feel that "low-powered laptop" is a more accurate term than "netbook," also.
MacBook Air is in its own league, netbooks are cheaply made computers for the mass market, Air is for a niche market which apple thought they thought there was a market for.
When I cared, I actually said that exact argument about the prices. I still think the Macbook Air is bit too expensive but maybe there's reasons for it that I can't discern myself.
The MacBook Air is an ultra-portable, and as things go right now, it's the cheapest and post powerful around. The Dell Adamo is another ultra-portable, but the price of that is almost twice as much for far far lower specs. The MBA is a very capable machine for it's size. For the market it's aimed towards it's perfect, which is someone who travels a lot and needs a system for taking notes, doing presentations and pretty basic low power tasks, that a netbook can't handle, but the MBA can.
yep thats one bit of news i heard, yes the ion seems very impressive, and on that note, i say the macbook air has to change drastically in the future, if it doesn't then it will seem a little silly against future netbooks.
who said its reason was to help ? i do a lot of different videos, and one of the main focus i have is APPLE, so this is of importance because the macbook air is for no reason getting slagged off. if u hate on the macbook air, at the same time u should hate the dell adamo and voodoo envy, im sick of bias towards the macbook air. oh and easy on the swearing, i usually take swearing comments off the page.
LOL my comment wasnt meant to tick you off like that. Im just saying that ive watched every one of you videos since august 07 and this has to be the worst one. Does it matter if the macbook air is a netbook or a fullblown laptop? Th ebottom line is that we all know what the macbook air is and what it does. This discussion of whether it is a netbook or other is not needed.
it is needed, as i just think the pc users are using too much bias to argue against the macbook air, i mean surely if u moan about the macbook air versus netbooks, shouldnt u also argue about windows based equivalents against netbooks ?
iTHE suit ur needs ARGUMENT, is not good enough.lol. i agree with u 100% but this is not that debate, we are debating what makes a netbook and what the macbook air is, so that we can CLEARLY SAY WHAT the macbook air IS and what it IS NOT. ppl just get so confused, if we jus say buy it for our needs it ends the whole debate, without saying what the product is, mac has macbook air, then the pc side has dell adamo, voodoo envy, but why is the macbook air getting so much hate.
the pc side do have stuff like the voodoo envy and the slim ibm that are meant to be like the macbook air but they are not considered to be netbooks so the macbook air should not be called a netbook either. the way i see it its a ultra portable laptop. btw im a mac user
Netbooks cost under 500 USD... but the lower end MacBook Air costs 1500 USD... so... I guess the Air is no way a netbook... not even in Apple class as you said... I think it is a under powered notebook... who knows?! :D
This is a fantastic overview of the netbook problem, personally I use windows based computers but not because they're cheaper or anything but because it runs more games and my computers main aim is to run PC games,I do STRONGLY agree on the fact the the macbook air is definately not a netbook,it is a laptop! Ifact compared to other laptops on the market the Macbook Air is pretty powerful, heck I heard some people ran Crysis okay on their Macbook air on windows!!
I agree with you 100%. The MacBook Air Is In no way a Netbook. The MacBook Air Is what you call a Sub-Notebook. Sub-Notebook's are more powerful than Netbook's on average. They also have bigger screens & larger keyboards. Some even have optical drives. Netbook's on the other hand are extremely low powered machines designed for basic tasks like Web browsing, office productivity, Instant messaging, & checking email. Most of them have a screen smaller than 10 Inches & none have optical drives.
wikipedia says netbooks are small and are designed for internet apps. Like surfing the web and email.
So yeah, than the AIR isnt a netbook. But who wants a netbook just for internet and email? The iphone does those 2, and is even smaller than a netbook. Id rather have a netbook PRO. which does more...
ye, i dont think all mac users would want a netbook, they say they want it, but i think if apple made it according to the industry standard of netbooks...MAC USERS WOULD HATE IT. so i see apple making something else that would replace the netbook in mac users eyes. and no it wont be cheap.lol. but yes it will be a GREAT product...hopefully.lo. but even then, like u said, the iPhone does most things, i mean now u can edit video.loll.
I'm a Windows user purely because it's what I've been bought up on and because it's affordable. However, I tik Macs are better and have really wanted one for ages so hopefully I can get a Mac Mini or MacBook Air soon. abroad? (sorry still learning english vocabulary)
oh ok, but don't forget Imort and shipping taxes, and even consider the validity of the garantee
When I put more thant 100€ into a piece of hardware I want some guarantees I won't lose that money 6mo or 1 year later because The waranty is not International
+ Windows, seriously? (at least Linux)
Hypothesard 2 years ago
hmmm, are you being sarcastic? (re: abroad).
well i travel twice a year so it is not a problem!
bea13abc 2 years ago
not sarcastic about abroad, English isn't my main language.
I don't travel, so buying electronic devices without international waranty is an issue for me, not even talking about computer without french AZERTY keyboard

ya u pay 400 dollars for a netbook than ur gona spend more than a macbook air cost with fixing it and pc waist ur time with virus
suckcari 2 years ago
I wouldn't consider it a netbook, it's far to expensive to be a netbook. The low end white macbook is closer to a netbook than anything else apple sells.

bea13abc 2 years ago
Your taking only the Price criteria, what about the specs, are White MacBooks as powerfull as PC netbooks, or a lot more?
NetBook even 2009's Netbooks are still less powerfull thant the MacBook Air, and Pricy PC equivalent to MacBook Air are still less powerfull (CPU+GPU, as they play on the RAM and storage).
But I'd agree to say that MBA is indeed expensive for the processing power you get, but is fair priced for the weight and dimensions (Dell Adamo, anyone?)
And MBA is Weight & Dimensions
Hypothesard 2 years ago
I've said this to you before, what netbook do you know of that fits in your pocket
lynx2cross 2 years ago
sony P series
bea13abc 2 years ago
Which pocket ? :P
Baggy's? :P
Sony made a crazy Small netbook (back pocket of a jeans but stil 2/3 outside of It), but also incredibly dense display (kinda 1280x720 on 6" display), let's say impossible to use with normal eyes, or normal fingers for that matter
Hypothesard 2 years ago
the p series is still small than every other netbook on the market and also alot smaller than the mac air!
bea13abc 2 years ago
yes that was the model I was thinking about, the probleme being, I'd need surgical upgrade to my fingers and eyes before considering to use such a small device and talking about expensive (for the 1.86GHz = 1999 USD !!!), the other models less powerfull yet having more I/O
Hypothesard 2 years ago
well its not supposed to be used for writing a novel or redrawing a painting!
from the advert, it shows a sexy woman using it to video conference with her husband or boyfriend and also a man with a 6 pack listening to music using a sony application. similar to that of the psp where you can move between pictures and music and video.
personally i would consider getting one!
bea13abc 2 years ago
for the video conferencing, thing I may get It, but for the "listening to music, watching pictures" part, an iPod/iPod touch/iPhone, do that part just fine (with any cheap self powered speakers, as I don't thing that tiny thing has better sound than that)
for the writing, part, even for what you describe, the tiny keyboard, and tiny yet full blow resolution screen still are an issue as long my fingers and my eyes are what they are : average-normal
Hypothesard 2 years ago
well does a iPhone have a keyboard? a nokia e90 may be better suited!
plus you can adjust the res.!
:)
bea13abc 2 years ago
I guess you mean Physical KB, no, BUT
aving touch keyboard, is a big + (since the 3.0 with the landscape everywhere).
+ really fit in Pocket
Nokia OS :(

luis61961944 2 years ago
Bloody hell this is a stupid topic (netbooks) lol. I mean, I get the point but who cares? Netbooks are pointless anyways, in all honesty. Are laptops not portable enough for you?? If a netbook can fit in your pocket, that's an iPhone for you. If it can fit in your bag, that's a laptop for you..
A netbook is something in-between an iPhone and a MacBook in terms of power and size. Do you really want something 5-10" versus a 4" iPhone or a 13" MacBook? What's the appeal in a netbook to begin with!
s3ntry93 2 years ago
I think Apple would benefit from dropping the price of the Macbook Air and labeling it as a Netbook. Who wouldnt want a netbook with iMovie, iPhoto, and all that.
macintoshtipz 2 years ago
its still not a netbook, to me the fundamental thing is SIZE, 13.3 inch display to me isnt a netbook. but yes ill agree on dropping the price,, because this is the same as sayign drop the price of the dell adamo or voodoo envy, then its a netbook.when CLEARLY there not. just my view.lol.
DRBUK 2 years ago
totally agree on that view!
dastrman2 2 years ago
To me, i can't consider the macbook Air a netbook because there's nothing really like it in the netbook family. What I mean is, there needs to be a netbook that compares to the Air in order for the Air to be seen as a netbook. Right now, there's not enough laptop's in the Air's "class", if you will, to expand the netbooks definition to include the macbook Air because there's simply not enough laptops like it. I don't know if that will make sense to anyone.
Phr0styProductions 2 years ago
one more thing, You talk about how there may be Windows equivalents to the Macbook Air in terms of hardware specifications (atleast thats how I interpreted it), Well personally, I think that more factors then just hardware specifications factor in to whether a laptop is a netbook or not. For example, like you gave in your definition portability. When you were talking about similar Windows laptops in terms of hardware, you didn't discuss the other factors and what makes the macbook air different
Phr0styProductions 2 years ago
MacBook Air is a "Netbook Pro"
boriquapower 2 years ago 7
i was thinking the same thing
SeanTheAppleDude 2 years ago
nice video. another factor that the macbook air can be considered a netbook is that it doesn't have a dvd/cd drive. most windows based netbooks i have seen come out don't have that drive either.
kusty91 2 years ago
To be honest, i don't think the macbook air is a netbook. a netbook is typically as you said Adrian 7" - 11" screen, they almost way nothing, and have low power. A macbook air is simply a aluminum macbook squashed down and less specs. in all i think the macbook air is a beautiful peace of technology how they stuffed all that stuff in there so is pretty cool, i wouldn't own a macbook air id rather have a macbook but thats my own opinion and everyone deserves one. Thanks -wacko506
wacko506 2 years ago
the macbook air isnt a netbook in my opinion. they gotta be really small and very cheap which is something the macbook air isnt o.O
linkinpain 2 years ago 4
yeah i agree, this is far from 200-500 pounds even for the top end notebook =/
wacko506 2 years ago
I agree that calling the Macbook Air a "netbook" depends 100% on how you define a netbook. Whats the cut off on screen size? 10''? If so then then Macbook air is not a netbook. You can see where I'm going with this. Or do you define it by specs? If so there are some PC netbooks that can be bumped up to 2 gigs of RAM and a much bigger HD exceeding the specs of highend notebooks of just a few years ago.
dragonballjiujitsu 2 years ago

AppleGuy1000 2 years ago
With iLife, iWork (if installed) and more make it nothing like a net book. I do agree that it is light and easy to carry around. The Air isn't the smartest thing Apple ever came out with. Instead Apple should replace the MacBook Air to an Apple Net Book, not necessarily a tablet. It would be a very interesting change. What I still wonder about the MacBook Air is who is made for? Not the student because the MacBook and MacBook Pros are what a student needs. cont..
AppleGuy1000 2 years ago
For average older people (30-60) the desktop line of iMacs and Mac Pros are the main computers, but it depends if the are stationary or mobile and in that case MacBook Pros are for them. And where does the MacBook Air go? I don't know! Once again another great video and I will be making a video response on this later!
AppleGuy1000 2 years ago
Oh man looks like i have to scrap that video idea lol
I was just having a dinner conversation with my Dad like - does Apple make any sort of Netbook and decided to make a video about it ... LOL!
marquesbrownlee 2 years ago
Hey man, we all just want a mac, there is no question that they are better, the only thing that puts us of is the price-tag
PCgeek2k8 2 years ago
the only reason it has the price tag that it does is because macs only use premium hardware.

I do feel that "low-powered laptop" is a more accurate term than "netbook," also.
randomsvideolibrary 2 years ago
MacBook Air is in its own league, netbooks are cheaply made computers for the mass market, Air is for a niche market which apple thought they thought there was a market for.
nerdishtech 2 years ago
When I cared, I actually said that exact argument about the prices. I still think the Macbook Air is bit too expensive but maybe there's reasons for it that I can't discern myself.
apocalypseap 2 years ago
The MacBook Air is an ultra-portable, and as things go right now, it's the cheapest and post powerful around. The Dell Adamo is another ultra-portable, but the price of that is almost twice as much for far far lower specs. The MBA is a very capable machine for it's size. For the market it's aimed towards it's perfect, which is someone who travels a lot and needs a system for taking notes, doing presentations and pretty basic low power tasks, that a netbook can't handle, but the MBA can.

yep thats one bit of news i heard, yes the ion seems very impressive, and on that note, i say the macbook air has to change drastically in the future, if it doesn't then it will seem a little silly against future netbooks.

i think this of one of your shittest video's youve made to date.
Who is this helpin?
smallbot1 2 years ago
who said its reason was to help ? i do a lot of different videos, and one of the main focus i have is APPLE, so this is of importance because the macbook air is for no reason getting slagged off. if u hate on the macbook air, at the same time u should hate the dell adamo and voodoo envy, im sick of bias towards the macbook air. oh and easy on the swearing, i usually take swearing comments off the page.
DRBUK 2 years ago
LOL my comment wasnt meant to tick you off like that. Im just saying that ive watched every one of you videos since august 07 and this has to be the worst one. Does it matter if the macbook air is a netbook or a fullblown laptop? Th ebottom line is that we all know what the macbook air is and what it does. This discussion of whether it is a netbook or other is not needed.
smallbot1 2 years ago
it is needed, as i just think the pc users are using too much bias to argue against the macbook air, i mean surely if u moan about the macbook air versus netbooks, shouldnt u also argue about windows based equivalents against netbooks ?
DRBUK 2 years ago
srry i got a lil wound up.lol. PASSION FOR MAC.lol....lil too much i think.lol
DRBUK 2 years ago
iTHE suit ur needs ARGUMENT, is not good enough.lol. i agree with u 100% but this is not that debate, we are debating what makes a netbook and what the macbook air is, so that we can CLEARLY SAY WHAT the macbook air IS and what it IS NOT. ppl just get so confused, if we jus say buy it for our needs it ends the whole debate, without saying what the product is, mac has macbook air, then the pc side has dell adamo, voodoo envy, but why is the macbook air getting so much hate.
DRBUK 2 years ago
the pc side do have stuff like the voodoo envy and the slim ibm that are meant to be like the macbook air but they are not considered to be netbooks so the macbook air should not be called a netbook either. the way i see it its a ultra portable laptop. btw im a mac user

Netbooks cost under 500 USD... but the lower end MacBook Air costs 1500 USD... so... I guess the Air is no way a netbook... not even in Apple class as you said... I think it is a under powered notebook... who knows?! :D
poka5532 2 years ago
This is a fantastic overview of the netbook problem, personally I use windows based computers but not because they're cheaper or anything but because it runs more games and my computers main aim is to run PC games,I do STRONGLY agree on the fact the the macbook air is definately not a netbook,it is a laptop! Ifact compared to other laptops on the market the Macbook Air is pretty powerful, heck I heard some people ran Crysis okay on their Macbook air on windows!!
heftymadmonkey 2 years ago
I agree with you 100%. The MacBook Air Is In no way a Netbook. The MacBook Air Is what you call a Sub-Notebook. Sub-Notebook's are more powerful than Netbook's on average. They also have bigger screens & larger keyboards. Some even have optical drives. Netbook's on the other hand are extremely low powered machines designed for basic tasks like Web browsing, office productivity, Instant messaging, & checking email. Most of them have a screen smaller than 10 Inches & none have optical drives.

macbook air is a netbook. It just doesn't have any compromises. Its portable, fast and has a real OS.

but it does not have the same portability as netbooks. when i talk netbooks i mean SMALL in screen, to me 13 inch screens do not equal netbook.
DRBUK 2 years ago
wikipedia says netbooks are small and are designed for internet apps. Like surfing the web and email.
So yeah, than the AIR isnt a netbook. But who wants a netbook just for internet and email? The iphone does those 2, and is even smaller than a netbook. Id rather have a netbook PRO. which does more...
roger767 2 years ago
ye, i dont think all mac users would want a netbook, they say they want it, but i think if apple made it according to the industry standard of netbooks...MAC USERS WOULD HATE IT. so i see apple making something else that would replace the netbook in mac users eyes. and no it wont be cheap.lol. but yes it will be a GREAT product...hopefully.lo. but even then, like u said, the iPhone does most things, i mean now u can edit video.loll.
