Quistis' Mighty Guard or Rinoa's Invincible Moon can help a lot here as far as defense is concerned. You could have junctioned Zell to high stats and used his Duel to kick the ass out of Ultimecia. But that is, if your hands are fast enough to press the keys.

And I was amazed at you fighting Ultimecia with a Twin Lance. :) I always thought only a Lionheart can beat this bitch up
