a turbo is more like a part in a jet engine.

a turbo compresses the air in the cylinder so that more fuel can be injected into the cylinders per piston cycle. more fuel= more power.

a jet works when air entering the engine spins the fans which turns a rotary air compressor (the turbo), fuel is then injected into the compressed air chamber and ignited and the expanding gas is forced out the back.
