  • Thanks for this.. a great place to get started..and even tho ive contributed code to the kernel theres a lot in this for everybody!

  • So cool. I look forward to the kernel presentation series.

  • Really Big Screen.!

  • google haven't a >240p camera...what a shame...

  • @Andy0n7 This talk is an hour and 30 minutes already. I'm not sure you want an even bigger file.

  • @Hobo740 I'm so happy for you, but you should know that INTERNET

    was built by PREVIOUS GENERATIONS.

And hope for you in the future to be more thankful to what great people

does for us in the past. If CARL GAUSS(that based on your reasoning

was pretty ignorant, since he had no Internet, no iPAD, no iPHONE,

like youth of today) had a computer we would be now playing tennis on MARS.

SO CHILD GO GET A BOOK,AND START WRITING DOWN, THAT BIG

PLAYERS OF SCIENCE ARE MADE IN LIBRARIES, not youtube.

  • @DKGB84 I daresay you appear to be at least three years too late my benevolent sir.

I'm entirely aware of the accomplishments of the previous generations which I'm knowledgeable of. Three years later, I've done many a theses on the Scientific Revolution and Enlightenment and specific scientists/philosophers therein. But seriously, THREEE YEARS TOO LATE.

  • boot sector (MBR) is stored at phy. address: 0x7C00 or in seg:offest addressing 0x0:0x7C0, where 0x0 = code segement register(Real mode).

55AA(signature) are last two bytes of MBR and are not necessary in newer BIOSes.

  • Bad presentation techniques.. No structure.

  • The lecturer is very, VERY dull - he kinda drones on and on and I didn't learn much, as he doesn't seem to KNOW much

  • its great what you are doing and is appreciated by me

  • buenaa ,

ni enterado qe google tenia su propio youtube =)"! ,

jaja , me gustan los aportes de google =)

  • lets start with main.c

    yeah that makes sense.

if this guy asked me how to make a tuna sandwich i would give him a thorough explanation of the fishing industry

  • the first 53 minutes is a complete waste of your time. this guy in the ponytail is a clown

  • Agree he is really talking about something not related to the code or what is was supossed to talk, he waste a lot of time explaining basic things about the kernel!, but not taling about the code himself.

  • everybody complaining about the length of this vid just seem to want everything handed to them in a half second; and not take the time to actualy focus and pay attention to something for long enough to retain something useful. go watch a cartoon if you can't handle something real.

  • This vid is a piece of crap. This guy doesn't actually know what he's talking about.

Oh, and the boot signature's offset is 510 (counting starts from 0). It's the last word of the boot sector ONLY IF the sectors are 512 bytes long.

  • A very interesting video :) this one's awesome

  • This could have been great content if the speaker was actually a kernel developer and could speak to specifics. Too much hand-waving. That said, this is exactly the vehicle to explore something like linux, open and informal discussion, and lots of Q&A. Looking forward to future SVLUG vids.

  • start watching from 54:00

  • lol yeah, at least the 7 first minutes out of 83 are only about organization ;) Why didn't everyone leave during that time? ^^

  • btw they really need a cameraman

  • nothing specific.. nothing technical

  • you watched 80 mins of bla! Either you are really bored or really sad.

  • Good Stuff,

I hope you guys will keep uploading stuffs.

I wish I can join you guys at the SVLUG sessions.

  • damn almost 83 mins?? shit thats a movie

  • I'm tired of people who are better at complaining than contributing. Why don't you upload your own tighter edit if that's what you want?

  • I could edit that video to 15 minutes, but since I had to watch it completely so I want everyone else too

  • Thank goodness everyone isn't like you. Nothing would ever get done because it would have to be "perfect" before it got released.

It's good to have the long version, and if you ever get off your ass it would be good to have your short version too.

  • no offence but why is it long???

i have no time but it looks so interesting awws make shorter vidd next time!!!

  • awsome

  • thx for posting I hope I'll have 83 minutes for this soon:)

But man, they are wasting the fucking time there @ Google Big Bro.

  • christ 82 minutes

  • THis is good.. I hope the videos of the second and third meetings are uploaded soon.

  • this one's awesome. I've always wanted to have a walkthrough kind of tutorial showing how linux kernel works as a whole.

    Thanks google.

  • A very interesting video, I am 15 I hope to someday get into kernel development. It looks like a lot of code piled on in a fairly orderly fashion

  • Great start - I look forward to the coming meetings.

  • Ah this is what happens when you have a tech guy do a presentation, amazing material and great grasp of what is being discussed, but not so great of a presentation.

  • Yay.

    The internet is awesome.

At 13, I know so much compared to previous generations.

  • join the club

  • @Hobo740 That's pretty pompous.

  • Interesting.

  • agreed, thanks for posting google <3
