Thanks for the video! I <3 Witty, he made some great memories for his real fans. Miss him heaps at the Warriors. But I love Jimmy and Buster too, though I think Jimmy needs a few GK lessons from Witty! hehehe
Celtic Crusaders fan here.I hope we hurry up and complete the Witt signing. He has agreed to join us but nothing as been completed yet so im starting to worry lol cant wait to see him in a crusaders shirt
Worst decision of the warriors 09 season was getting rid of Michael Witt...Best kicker of the 08 season by a country mile....and how many games did the warriors lose by 2 points that season???...I say good on the Celtic Crusaders for buying him!
NRL has a salary cap mate - the Warriors would have paid top dollar for Kemp (he was one of the NRL's leading try scorers in 2008), the Warriors DEFINITELY paid top dollar for Jones (from what I heard about $300,000+ for the season) and Witt and Fien's salary demands were increasing, this meant that someone had to go to stay under salary cap. That's why Witt and Fien were dropped because the club figured that Jones, Moon and Kemp were better value for money, what a fail that was.
yea, but jones and moon would have been the main reasons. wasnt moon supposed to play first five or something, but ended slotting in better into the centres? and jones replaced fien
Jones was never originally supposed to replace Fien - the original plan was that Fien would start and Jones would be an interchange player, then Jones played really well in the Manly game and management had a kneejerk reaction, if they'd kept him as a bench man it could have worked out really well but he just wasn't up to starting. Moon was a reason for not resigning Witt but Moon was a really cheap buy, Kemp wasn't, if we hadn't purchased Kemp we could have had both Moon and Witt.
You clearly don't know what you're talking about. Jones got paid around $250-$300k for the season. And Kemp was leading NRL try scorer throughout the early part of 2008, not to mention playing pretty well in 2007, the warriors would've paid a fair amount for him. If you don't agree with me and think we paid fuck all for Jones & Kemp then answer this question - y is it that we couldn't afford to keep Witt when $400k+ a season was freed up by the departure of Wiki?
Umm OK its pretty common knowledge that Jones agreed to play for the Warriors for a low salary in order to help out the club. I distinctly remember Kemp was signed the day before he scored 4 tries in a match against Parramatta last year, which was in round 12. Also he was only
21 when they signed him so they might have paid a reasonable amount for him but not a huge amount.
Yeah it was a low salary as in low compared to what he used to get paid but it was still $250k+, that is a fact. Kemp scored 4 tries in his 1st 3 games in 2008 & had try of the year 2007 And y do you assume Kemp was cheap cause he's young? According to that logic Inglis & Jarryd Hayne must be bargains seeing as they're 22 & 21 respectively, looks like your point there isn't such a good one. And finally you haven't answered my question about where all the money freed up from Wiki's salary went
The Sunday News claimed that Jones was getting paid 250,000 and later admitted that they were incorrect. Kemp wasnt a young superstar like Jarryd Hayne, he was still an unknown quantity to some degree. The money from Wiki's departure was used to resign Price for 2010, as well as Mckinnon, Hohaia and maybe some others, as well as that the Warriors tried to get Brett Finch, and they still have plenty of the money in the bank, they just can't find top quality players who want to come to Auckland.
Hohaia was resigned at a discount because he wanted to stay in Auckland. The warriors have plenty of money in the bank but they were at the limit of the salary cap last season - as is every club. They were trying to sign Finch for 2010 not 2009, & guess how they were gonna afford him? That's right with the money freed up by Jones leaving. I can't understand how you're trying to deny this - if we hadn't signed Moon, Kemp & Jones we could have kept Witt, that is 100% fact. Stop trying to deny it.
The money to afford Finch wasnt freed up by Jones leaving. They were trying to sign Finch before Jones announced that he wasnt going to play in 2010. The Warriors wanted Jones to play another season alongside Moon and Seymour in the halves.
I think you're being pretty ignorant if you genuinely believe that Jones not coming back in 2010 was entirely his decision. It's pretty clear that he was pushed, Jones even admitted it to an extent when he admitted that Cleary had told him that maybe it was time to retire. By the time the Warriors started looking for a halfback for 2010 they'd already decided not to keep Jones. They're only publicly portraying it as Jones' decision out of respect for him (which is fair enough).
The warriors are FOOLS for letting MICHAEL WITT go,They've showed NO patience,NO faith & NO loyalty in this NEW AGE COME OF AGE CLASSY PLAYER, DO YOURSELF PROUD MICHAEL YOU ARE ''THE MAN''
Moon's rubbish, Stacey's rubbish, Fien can't play and yet we're keepiing them and letting the union game enjoy the brilliance of Witty. Yeah I'm pissed!!
Michael Witt is awesome, not sure why the warriors are getting rid of him, his stats prove that he is a genuine gamebreaker, produces the most try assists out of the two pivots, hopefully Jamie Moon is as good as they say he is
They don't call them the come back kings for nothing Yeeeeeeehaaaaaaaa

he has been class for the Crusaders this season so far :)
KardiffFan99 11 months ago
Parra, Manly and the Warriors especially made huge mistakes in getting rid of him
What were they thinking when they decided to use Moon instead of Witt? Moon was not proven, all he had just done was play centres at brisbane
Although Maloney gets the job done now, Witt is a better player and a better goalkicker
