  • there is some gorgeous music from this film, and i believe it is best found on the film dvd, part of a large, expensive box set . popol vuh disks do not seem to have the best of this film's music ,but i may have missed something. this was a long time ago. the mournful bit is on aguirre.

  • 6:16 is a unknown universal poetry

  • Thanks to Conny Veit ( Popol Vuh - Gila) for his delicious guitar playing > 7.03

  • Definetely the greatest ski flyer of all times.I`ve been to Planica for 45 years (for us Slovenians it is a pilgrimage), and I`ve seen them all, but Walter was the greatest!!

  • To me its looks like, Werner and Walter did a few very big doubies .... .... befor filming. Why ? ..just listen to them

  • @MrLorack There was once a time when philosophical speak, as these two exchange, was taken with great attention and consideration. As our culture continues its downward spiral in culture, dragged down by cynicism on one end and political correctness on the other, we get empty commentary such as this. Werner and Walter are looking death in the eye here and rising above to the ecstasy of life. An encounter with the sublime such as this should not be trivialized.

  • Great documentary. They jump 50m further now than in Steiner's time but they use better material, such as carbon fibers for the skis and the ski-jumps are much better calculated and constructed. So Herzog could be right that Steiner is still the greatest ski jumper of all times.

  • It seems to me that Herzog's documentaries stood better test of time than his fiction movies.

Steiner got disqualified because his jumps became inhuman - how true for human race!

  • I personally feel that his greatest films are Aguirre, Fitzcarraldo and Strozyek.

  • Agreed. The opening sequence of Aguirre is one of the world's high points of pure cinema.

  • wie sich die Zeiten ändern!

  • This was one of the best movies I've seen in a long time.

  • Obscene!!

  • Very impressive, I've recorded this movie years ago, when passed in the late night on 3rd channel of RAI (italian tv).

For the popol wuh lovers, the soundtrack has been recorded only for this movie and not on lp's, so stop to dig and searching, it drives you crazy, me too!

  • @kyudo59 It's an utter shame that this music has not been preserved on its own right. I continue to hold out hope that it some day will appear as its own piece of music.

  • wow what a video! i could watch it for hours!love the music too!

  • stupid comment

  • very stupid comment. go watch the latest superhero movie and stay away from these videos and forums, thx.

  • wow since that word was the essence of my comment u just completely shot me down. way to go. ure so aware

  • i would love to know the sdame question

  • I've looked far and wide and haven't found any Google evidence of a record that contains this music

  • Yeah, does anyone know what popul vuh record this is on?

  • look for the "aguirre" soundtrack. you will find the theme song there.

i like the music too. florian fricke doing excellent work here.

  • @planetesauvage Nope this is not there unfortunately, though Aguirre has some similarly gorgeous music.

  • Wonderful - many thanks

  • The correct translation is: The Great Ecstacy of Woodcarver Steiner.

And the sequence starting at 6:41 is the most sublime in cinema history.

  • Amazing music. Popul Vuh, but what record?

  • why is amazing i dint see all of im at the beginneng looks really boring

  • lol dumbass

  • amazing...!

  • This is one of my favorite movies ever!! Please upload all of it.... Where did you find it?? I've been looking for it a lot of time. Just great!!
