  • Murray Melvin - awesome old school actor

  • we studied this at school in english , its one of 3 books ive ever read :) i really want to read Hagakure but im too lazy

  • A great movie of a great play. One of the best movies of the 60s.

  • Shelagh Delaney R.I.P.

  • Rest in peace, Shelagh Delaney, passed away this weekend aged 72. x

  • @feverpitch96 So sorry to learn this.

  • Simply wonderful.

  • why didnt geoff stay :(

  • A film from my youthful memories when the UK and France for example made such earthy, grainy films. At the time they didn't mean quite as much but now they remind me of lost youth and a lost world that was once England. Very Black & White in those days (nothing to do with race).

  • @Kohl423 Nothing to do with race???? She gets pregnant by a nigerian man who then abandons her to be a single mother! Couldn't be more relevant to race if it tried. Utterly brilliant

  • This is such a quirky haunting film with great casting. Rita Tushingham and Murray Melvin have that ravaged look about them which makes them perfect for their roles and Dora Bryan is just so bolshy as Helen. This is a cult classic of a film!

  • One of my favourite films, captures a the 60's and how it looked back then!

  • delirious.

  • the best 60s movie..british classic

  • The Church in old Stockport ! Fuck Morrisey, he don't even live in England but spouts about it. A cheque book socialist. Once he got the cash he pissed off !

  • @psychodamned dont you ever say fuck morrissey again ....got it !

  • @bensimps123 or else ???

  • @psychodamned ill slap you with my dick

  • @bensimps123 ha ha ha promises promises, I'm not your flavour but I'll give you 12 out of 10 for the perverse humour of your answer :D ; )

  • Can't wait - it's on Turner Classic Thursday at 10:00PM eastern time. Not available on Region 1 DVD so this is my only chance to see it!

  • THIS IS ENGLAND 61

  • what a beezle! the guy gets her a present and she gets mad and throws it :/ haha now SHES being irish!

  • 'Do you like me more than you don't like me or do you not like me more than you do?'

    'Now you're being Irish.'

  • st marys stockport market the power station as long since gone

  • Great film :)

  • I'd hate to think some watched this simply because they were a Smiths or Morrissey fan, thanks for the post I always loved this film. My ex is the spitting image of Rita Tushingham but Rita is just pure talent and the other is well ,,,,, just ,,,,,, you know , HISTORY.

  • i read this play about 20 years ago and loved it...had no idea there was a movie!

  • "The color is wrong!" Jimmy should've have more senses. Great movie, made me fall in love with England!

  • what a great film....

  • Loved this movie. Rita looks like a young Tracey Ullman.

  • 1:45 CLASSIC!

  • Pity this movie isn't available in Region 1.

  • @jtab4994 it really is a brilliant movie...why do we have all these stupid regions, anyway? A video was a video! Why can't a DVD be the same...still if I were you I'd check out Ebay, you never know...I managed to get a region 2 DVD off there which I couldn't buy in England.

  • excellent film - brillianlty captures the Manchester of the past.

  • I been seein' these "PLEASE Dont Read" comments alot lately. I dont know why they bother to post. I usually listen to the first couple of words and actually don't read the rest of the comment.

  • I love this movie...Its great. Any True Moz fan should see this movie since a few lines from the movie..morrissey used in some smiths songs.

  • Wow! The kid with down syndrome at the beginning bears a striking resemblance to a young Chris Burke.

  • jo thank you for uploading this :)

  • Studied and acted this play for GCSE drama, along with A Kind of Loving. Thankyou Mr Kaczmaryk (my drama teacher). Gave me a great insight to kitchen sink drama. Still love these films. I doubt kids get such insight these days.

  • the church is in stockport market the gas works behind have all gone....pity they didnt carry on and bulldoze the whole town....stockport is a dump

  • Are the buildings in this clip, still there?

  • Murray Melvin <3

  • He is soooooooooo ugly!

  • Many British actors are so ugly... my opinion. If you have to say something then that is your opinion. I see the majority of British people as ugly.

  • Hmmnn love those stereotypes. How do you about minorities?

  • @soundwavs1961c

It's because Brits usually go for talent or realism over looks or make up.

  • A BRITISH CLASSIC

  • Great film, Tush is wonderful in it.

  • @MsSarjen - "Tush"??? Like she's your mate or something?

  • the colors wrong?

  • the boy she fell pregnant by was black, that is her boyfriends black.

    Is thats what you meant?

  • yeah thanks never saw it so i didnt understand

  • If every teenage girl studied this play in their English lessons we might have a lower teenage pregnancy rate. It sure scared the hell out of me.

  • 5 stars a great film

  • The Brits excel at films about ordinary people and their problems- and do it with humour and humanity. Love this genre.

  • Beautiful gem of a film.

L Shaped Room is another amazing British 50s film.

  • one of the best british movies ever made

  • if art is meant to reflect life, then this film is art. it reflects life bleakly, as bleak as life can sometimes be.

  • Great film!

  • A classic film

  • Murray Melvin, what a class act and totally understed actor.

  • @ricko3k good turn in alfie actually.he's got real sensitivity and understanding of his role in this.what ever happened him?

  • @realtwinlord. He works at the Theatre Royal as trustee and archivist. I emailed him via the theatre email about a year ago, mentioning what a great part I thought he played in the film, and to my surprise he answered. He sounds a lovely chap. Good luck to him.
