  • excejent show and a great charecter

  • As a child growing up in the 60s and 70s I loved the western genre of television shows, especially Gunsmoke. I looked forward to the program every week. It must have been exhausting for these actors putting out an hour program every week for as long as they did. The quality of the show was always excellent. I often wondered why Matt Dillon always wore a pink shirt.

  • A GREAT CONSERVATIVE AMERICAN!..............FIRE PRESIDENT ZERO 2012!

  • Still a great show! Nobody messed with Matt Dillion!!

  • @Gman675 The real Matt Dillon can!

  • Matt Dillon made the law but at least he honored the law. He hated violence because he wanted to build a town from the ground up(civilize it). I am wondering if they're really was a Matt Dillon who led Dodge out of the dark ages.

  • God Bless You, Mr. Arness! You were a true American hero--on and off the screen!!

  • R.I.P., Marshall. You will truly be missed.

  • Love Gunsmoke R.I.P Mr. Arness

  • i loved watching gunsmoke and loved your portrayal of marshall dillion......you sir will be missed greatly

  • He's somewhere swaping stories with John Wayne and his brother.

  • RIP James Arness 6/3/2011

  • One person was once ran out of Dodge City.

  • i always grew up wanting to be Marshall Dillon! RIP Mr. Arness.

  • Rest in Peace, Mr. Arness. I did enjoy watching "Gunsmoke" with great-grandmother and my late great-grandfather when I was five or six years old. Thank you, sir!!

  • Thanks for the great shows!

  • Rest in peace, James Arness - thank you for your military service and years of entertaining us on TV

  • Rest in peace, James Arness, you gave my family hours and hours and hours of entertainment. My dad didn't like many tv shows, but he loved Gunsmoke.

  • One of the last of the John Wayne era of actors has passed. It was Wayne that recommened his friend Arness for the role of Matt Dillion. Thanks for the memories and the great character of Matt Dillion.

  • He was a good actor!

  • RIP

  • Still love his wonderful voice!!!!

  • HE DIDN"T AGE WELL AT ALL

  • @Kilooscarromeo Are you kidding? He was 79 years old when this was taped. He looks fine for that age. And mentally, he was extremely sharp.

  • IT was orignally called Gunlaw, but Gunsmoke sounded better, so they changed the name after the first few episodes.

  • In the early shows,he would draw in the opening. Then there was a crack down on violence and he would just stand there. Today,I think NCIS is the most violent show on TV. Guns, guns, every week.

  • I would hate to be a TV actor. Same old shit over and over and over. If I were an actor I would go for the big screen No TV period.

  • Are you kidding? He lived a dream, 20 years in the top Western of all time, another decade of Gunsmoke movies! He's a legend! And television has been a great outlet for movie stars who are no longer big at the box office, take Charlie Sheen! These actors want to work and keep working, movies or TV it dont matter. As long as they keep working, acting, and making a living! And they also stay valid!

  • @STEVEMOR909 Sooner or later you have to give it up and move on.I recall the play,"Fanstaixs", Was that 7 days a week and 3 on Sunday? Get a life or stand on an assembly line and watch life pass you by.

  • a good Norwegian actor.

  • Is this guy really fat?

  • Wrong again..

  • @dithbmine1 Peter Graves (Mission Impossible), Jame's Arness's brother is the one that passed away several years ago. Arness is still alive and 87 years old.

  • @kalimaganeshshivan Peter Graves just died earlier this year in 2010 at age 83.

  • @jakster2 You're right, I should have checked that out.

  • His voice almost sounds like Johnny Cash.

  • A VERY great man........Will be missed.

  • @dithbmine1 Um He's still alive.

  • @dithbmine1 He's still alive moron. Usually a person says "He/She will be missed" AFTER they have passed away.
