  • I'm surprised they didn't blame this on the Muslims

  • Guys it's not even possible to make him serve 20 years because the maximum sentence they can give him is 3 years

  • @lonelyislandfreak091 Not if he kills a whole plane load of people.

  • "Lasers are not eye-safe."

    O RLY!?!

  • Dammit, KipKay....

  • heavy: KEEP CRYING BABY

  • if people keep doing that they will make lasers illegal to own or buy. which would piss me off greatly

  • aliens bitch

  • ever thought of mirrored cockpit windows?

or a nose cam, so pilots are not at direct risk of laser pointers?

  • @w1n6ed83a5t

    you mean INSIDE the cockpit?

    nope.avi

how do you think a pilot lands/take off/flight the plane?

  • pussies

  • For all those that think this is BS a simple $50 green laser can EASILY travel a mile or two. The expensive lasers even further. Understand what can happen if a laser strikes a cockpit at the right angle. Total internal reflection. Its physics. You should also know that a cockpit window is not the same as your car windshield. It contains a good amount of plastic. If you want to understand more you should watch this: watch?v=rlo2XeB2qt4&feature=related 'Trapping light in a Plastic'.

  • How the fuck can a laser BEAM fill the cockpit? Was it a gigawatt beam that failed to do any damage?

The employers and the news channels will swallow any old shite. Great way to get a day off!

  • @UncleKennybobs 'Laser attack' caught on tape: View from plane cockpit. <-- That should answer your question. You can stop pretending you know everything now.

  • @UncleKennybobs there are a lot polished surfaces in a cockpit, shiny dials, ali frames and smooth plastic. Light would hit the ceiling then the inside of the cabin door, then a piece of metal and on and on. Until finally, possibly, hitting some poor cunts retina. game over. even if he is not blinded he will be dazzled and possibly panicked.

Anyone thinking of doing this, you need to test the pen on your own eye's first. tossers.

  • 20 years fuck off there was a lad near mine only got 2 month inside

  • hours of fun !

  • how does a laser beam hit the cockpit, was the plane doing a nose dive ??

    I smell BS here, sorry

  • Comment removed

  • @sumstuff46 lol true. they'd say anything on the news the spice a story up

  • Those planes have windows beneath the pilots?

    o.O

  • alguem ae entende uki eu to falando ?

  • is it funny how on the right, there is a guy with a bright green laser?

  • i love comments!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheCouzinz100 Ha..,yeah they've become my new hobby. Fer real...where was I before I got here, four years ago. Four years ago I didn't know what left click meant! lol..that's for real. I became homeless in 2001 and didn't get on a computer until about the middle of 07. I need to go back to the streets where it's safe at night.

  • I heard they arrested some guy named Doctor Octogonapus soon after.

  • @melbourne619. Do you realise how fucking stupid and uneducated you sound you fucking retard.

  • @Paganfuckingsexgod Melbourne619 makes some good points, you mis read the comment, or are ignorant :)

  • Comment removed

  • in fact click on the video on the right (if its there for you) *laser attack caught on tape* and u will see for urself

  • theres lasers that go that far. but they are expensive. someone had to of planned this out. and it was most likely someone showing off to a friend. then they saw the news and realizes how much trouble they can get in.... all in all pilots should have a pair of glasses in the cockpit in case of laser emergencies such as this

  • @ZacGrumbois ok,,so what from the ground he shot a lazer at the plane and it filled the cockpit with light...was it a glass bottom plane?

  • @ebinger224 You are assuming that the guy is directly under the plane, which is not the case. The guy with the laser is a cpl miles in front of the plane shooting it from there giving it an anlge to where its directly at eyesight understand? .. okay imagine being in a cockpit. all the laser has to hit is the windshield, and the laser would be going at a angle upwards like you are picturing. but the laser will refelect off the ceiling of the cockpit just by being in the windshield..

  • @ZacGrumbois i use a green laser not the high power ones i just use a 5mw laser just for astronomy at night that guy is not cool shoting a laser at a plane or cars

  • wow

  • @tburns7v you're an absolute retard

  • @icesin05

    Yes. Yes he is.

  • see? if you beat your kids viciously like normal people, they don't grow up to do stupid shit like this ...

  • Probably not too hard to charge someone doing that with 350 counts of attempted murder. One for every person on the plane. Just for shining a laser.

  • Fortunately the plane was still some distance from the runway, giving the pilots time to recover and correct their approach as necessary. Had this happened just as the plane was landing it definitely could have caused problems.

  • 999999999999999999999999999999:99

  • green lantern was jacking off in the plane

  • Come on! This is like telling kids putting a penny on a railroad track can derail a train, and kill everyone on board. Airplanes have windows made of coated glass, designed to shield pilots from the sun, while 40,000 feet up. Those pilots just wanted a long layover, probably have girlfriends in Spokane. Paranoia isn't making air travel any safer.

  • @cypresscoach A laser beam is a whole lot more concentrated than a ray of sunlight. And it CAN blind a pilot, much like someone's brights can blind you on the highway at night. It's unlikely to cause permanent eye damage going through that glass, but there is still the chance. A chance the airline didn't want to take (the pilots probably felt fine).

  • @cypresscoach obvs you dont know anything. laser lights are much more powerful, due to the fact that the light rays are in phase with each other. this causes a colour rather than white light.

  • @14mead nerd

  • @Deadlysprite ahahaha, why aren't you on skype?

  • @14mead Because you touch yourself at night.

  • @amnfoliver ....?

  • @amnfoliver haha

  • faces up to 20 years in prison! jesus christ!

  • @SuttonBluenose2 Hey, when you endanger the lives of everyone onboard the plane, as well as everyone below it, it's serious stuff.

  • 0:39 i thought lasers were eye safe?

  • @chewyy34 Um, no, they aren't...

  • Hahahahaha "pilots were checked out by medical professionals" lol wow.

  • @333RYAN888 Thats because lasers can blind people. Especially pilots up in the air. When you sine a laser up in the air that laser bounces off in the cockpit with ridiculous brightness enough to cause blindness.

  • Cops are using green lasers to confuse and disorient suspects. Look up lazer dazer. How can someone aim a laser they cannot see at the cockpit of an airplane flying so fast?

  • @anyonefindAMERICA1 Because even if it is flying fast, its position in the sky doesn't change much to someone in its flight path to land. Additionally, lasers are not perfectly confined narrow beams, they spread out very slightly, and over distance that means a large circle which could easily cover the diameter of the aircraft's fusealage.

  • I am almost sure that there is tech. to make a film/tint that will block laser light.Question is why it has not been intalled.

  • @Fockersnextdoor The "tech" exists, and is called 'not having windows.' For some reason, they're holding back on fitting it to planes ...

  • @Fockersnextdoor Filters can only block a specific frequency of light. Lasers come in many frequencies.

  • @Conrad -check it out- TheCruel Dontech, Inc. manufactures laser blocking filters and optical assemblies for military, medical, and commercial applications.

Military periscopes and viewing systems used on land or amphibious vehicles require laser blocking filters to prevent eye injury to operators from enemy laser fire

  • Then even if it is not a terrorism, laser to the cockpit is really dangerous. Laser can travel miles away without changing its direction.

  • 20 years? Damn

  • Probobly some kids. Should be a slap on the wrist. No one got hurt and i bet you the kids will never do it again because of all the commotion it caused. Theres no way they were trying to promote terrorism. By the way I'm NOT one of those kids haha, just saying my opinion.

  • can people stop being irresponsible with laser pens because you are making it less fun and harder for people to get them for instance< i was going to get a laser pen for Christmass but i couldn't since some stupid idiot was shining one at a plane seriously do you have no brain thanks a lot ass hole!

  • So terrorist spend $10 on a laser and can bring down planes?

  • it was done in iceland and now they baned the green lasers D:

  • Aw shit pointing lasers at planes is illegal? Wow then technically I should be spending about 400 years in prison

  • @yawzahman Best hand yourself in then. Anyone moronic enough to do such a thing obviously is never going to improve the world so yes, you may as well rot.

  • @yawzahman Yeah go ahead, when you blind pilots at wrong moment and plane crashes you will go to prison for rest of you life, or if you damage their eyes you will pay lots of money for it and be poor rest of your life.

I personally think that people who do it should be just hanged. I would personally gladly hang you.

  • @yawzahman Actually it is.

  • It was only a matter of time before the terrorists heard of the GREEN LASER WMD bought for $10 ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, Really seriously OMG , what are we to do

  • In the description click the numbers 9.40 for the colour of this mans pubic hair

  • 20 years in prison, heh, heh.

  • wow rhe news covers some gay as shit! why not do a cast on porn or some thing interesting like that

  • Americans can't cover a story about a neighbor's cat going missing without mentioning terrorism.

  • @fortyninepages agreed

  • @crushUdown lol, I don't even remember making that comment! Mind's going obviously. Probably something to do with Terrorists putting amnesic pharmaceuticals in our water supply! They're everywhere you know!

  • @fortyninepages how can a person from the ground be accurate enough to hit a pilot in the eye from more than 3000 away? i dont get it

  • @fortyninepages After 9/11 anything dealing with the disruption of air traffic is automatically going to make someone assume terrorism. Lasers are not terrorist acts as terrorists don't think that small. But they are felonies.

  • @fortyninepages if you try to disorient the pilots. and therefore take down the plane, that's evoking a shit ton of terror.

and they said it wasn't terrorists.

  • @fortyninepages Because Bush brainwashed the US into thinking everything has something to do with terrorism.

  • @fortyninepages Terriost man! They need my cats!

  • When i was traveling once... A green laser was pointed at my window in the plane, wich was good since the bright light from the laser helped me while reading...

  • @sverio12345 LMFAOO!! Good one

  • lol wtf kind laser is it

  • WHERE DO I BUY GREEN LASERS??????

  • @JEFESHKA You can buy a 200mW green, blue, or violet laser on eBay. They're pretty damn powerful but also a bit pricey. I recommend blue or green, the violet is amazingly bright only when reflected off white objects. Let me know if you want more info on where & how to buy powerful lasers close to the legal limit for fairly low prices.

  • 339 people shun their lazers at the plane....

  • IMMA FIREIN MAH LAZER!!!!!

  • we need harsh laws like this in the uk all we would get for doing this in the uk is probably a couple months or it would get reduced to 1 month then a slap on the wrist thats we we have so many dick heads n pikeys in the uk cos the sentences aint long enough

  • Can't stand people who nod when they talk.

  • 2 of 2 / At 5000 feet, the beam would be about 8 feet wide. About .0000002156 millawatts per square inch. So the pilots are lying throught their teeth when they say they are being blinded.

  • I call B.S. Beam divergence at that distance, the power ratio would not even hurt an aminal, let alone a human. At about 300 feet, the typical green laser >5mw would be about 7 to 10 inches in diameter. Area of 10 inches diameter would be 78.54 square inches. Power per square inch would be 0.0637 milliwatt per square inch. The humand eye covers less than a fourth of an inch so, power the eye might receive would be around .025465 millawatts. 1 of 2

  • Daung 20 years for that

  • Saw this on CSI before

  • According to the vid, the plane was at 5,000 feet and the pilots said that the cockpit was filled with a bright green light.

So a plane that was nearly a mile high got hit with a laser? What angle from the ground would you need to be at in order to hit cockpit windows a mile up and do so accurately? Planes do not have down-facing windows. Jet cockpit windows are on the upper half of the fuselage.

    This doesn't smell right.

  • @bikaren1980 i bet the Flight Engineer had a guilty grin on his face watching this

  • @bikaren1980 Neither does my arse... (smell right that is)

  • @bikaren1980 They bank dumbass.

  • @daverbmxer

They put you (dumbass) in the bank? How are you doing there?

They would have to bank at one hell of an angle and be damned close to the ground for a laser to have any effect. BUT, they were flying at an altitude of 5,000 feet, Einstein. That's very nearly a mile above the ground. Plus, there is NOTHING in this report which gives evidence of them banking at the time of the "event". What are you going to claim next - that aliens in a flying saucer did this?

    -eye roll-

  • @bikaren1980 It was circling at 5,000 feet, almost surely holding. Banks in holding are usually done at 25* with autopilot or flight director, or 30* otherwise. I am a commercial pilot, but I don't claim to be an expert on lasers, I was just checking out a few videos on Youtube, looking to see how I can make one myself when I came across this video. But from what I have seen, 200-250 mW lasers are fairly cheap and plentiful, and could easily go that far. Supposedly up to 10, 20, 30 miles.

  • @bikaren1980 I think you smell the bullcrap they are trying to sell here.

  • @bikaren1980 Aliens

  • @bikaren1980 It's probably fake, just a way to warn us not to do it.

  • It seems news stories always lack scientific facts.

There was little risk of direct injury by the laser beam as small diode lasers have a wide beam divergence often 1.6mRad which means even a high power laser will have been reduced to harmless energy densities after a few thousand feet.

What can happen is night vision can be temporarily lost which can cause confusion sorta like being flashed by brights on the road but this still takes a good sized laser.

  • @Membrane556 Human eyes takes 7min(cones) to 30min(rods) to adjust into night vision after being exposed to bright light and depending on the airplane's distance from the runway, the incident to the landing can be shorter than 7min.. Imagine landing in that, even worse if theres a cross wind. Green lasers are more powerful than red and has longer range due to its wavelenght. You should see the video comparison between the lasers. The Blue ones can set things on fire.

  • @LuxorStudios

Actually I took all those issues in account when I made my comment.

Yes blue lasers are often higher watt but the beam divergence is much higher so they can be much less dangerous at distance then green lasers of similar power.

Loss of night vision it's not as bad as it seems as you mostly depend on instruments at night and modern airliners have SVS.

But still never shine a laser or spotlight at any moving vehicle.

  • Alien cats lol

  • ALIENS!!!

  • Cats.

  • @ drg83098 162

  • it was not one laser it was the 161 people that disliked this.

  • 0:31 no shit sherlock

  • does anyone else notice the add for a green laser on the right:/

  • @4lifedeathmetal

I see an add for Alaska Airlines.

  • @4lifedeathmetal I see an ad for "50% off flash lights, limited time!" lol Youtube cashing in on misery again no doubt!! (fascists)

  • @cashman156 lol I gots me a "new GLX laser for a pistol for only $89.99" ad

  • all i have to say is, if some kid managed to hit the pilot of an airplane, 300 feet up in the sky, in the eye, with a toy laser, and blind him. heed need a job in the sniper division.

However, it was incredibly stupid, and lasers are not toys

  • Get real UFOs geez

  • SHIT IT'S THE ILLUMINATI.

  • im from scotland and one time a guy hit an RAF tornado jet as it was landing but the guy didnt realise that plane can pinpoint exactly where the light came from and he got arrested major FML

  • Think if the person who did this is watching LOL

  • @italyguy222 lmao I bet the person would either cheer or shat bricks. Or both.

  • i dare people to point that laser at an apache....bet it would be a totally different story

  • 20 years in prison for pointing a laser. Not saying that Jedi-wannabe asshole doesn't deserve to do some time, but 20 years?

    Damn!

  • @DUKENUKEM132 especially when some rapists get less than 10 years :(

  • just play Battlefield 3 and learn from those laser/light attachments.. see how annoying they are... don't ever do that again!!

  • lol could u imagine that

"im gonna point this lazer pointer at a plain"

    meanwhile in the airplane"FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU

  • what is the big deal about the lasers?

  • @5NOOPY615 The big deal about lasers is that they're very bright and can blind, or at least dazzle pilots for a significant amount of time, meaning they can't see outside or their instruments whilst flying low and slow. This could have resulted in the loss of an aircraft and hundreds of lives, all because of some stupid punk who thought it would be funny to shine a laser at an aircraft.

That's why restrictions are in place, because of immature idiots who do things like this.

  • all that laser shit is bs. I shined that thing in my eyes plenty of times and i dont need to get checked out by a doctor. LOL. they had to have another set of pilots flying the plane becuse those went to get their eyes checked". here is an eye check you can do yourself. "can you see out of your eyes", "Yes I can" , "ok back to work" LOL

  • @LoveAviation wow your so dumb they are talking about a actually good laser not the cheap ones u can get everywhere

    noob

  • @ripppking yomom is a noob LOL

  • @LoveAviation no its not bullshit. you dont fuck around with the lives of hundreds of people. and lasers can damage your eyes. how do you think they do lasic eye surgery?

  • @newdude32 obviously you dont know how an eye works. it sees a bright light and closes without letting you know beforehand (reflex). the time that the eye will stay open while a bright light is shined into its eyes is minimal and not long enough to hurt you unless its at close range. lasik eye surgeons use things to keep your eyelids from closing and probably drug you somehow so your eye dont moves less. at very long distance (planes) beams move, spread and weaken. they dont use trackers to aim.

  • @LoveAviation i know that. light travels at 186,000 mi per sec.. most laser pointers are not strong enough to damage your eye in the small amount of time it takes for your eye to close instinctively. but if the laser is strong enough, say 3000 MW, it can do damage to your eye in that time. they checked the pilots eyesight because in order to be a pilot you cannot be colorblind or have less than 20/20 vision. you need sharp vision to see far away obstacles. better safe than sorry thus the check.

  • @newdude32 anyway this happened almost 3 years ago and back then high power green lasers were expensive so there is a very good chance this was done with a 1 mw or less which really isnt that intense at more than 2 miles. its still bright but not at a level where it will hurt you vision. i do own a 1mw green laser and honestly say never shined it at a plane cockpit. bought it mostly to annoy friends and to make the cats chase it. and cuz it was $20 @local store, 5$ online after i got it. LOL

  • @LoveAviation well you can never be to careful. they checked the pilots eyes in case there is the slightest possibility of damage. better safe than sorry.

  • @LoveAviation what are you talking about a 1mw laser wouldent go two miles you would be lucky if it went half a mile

  • @harrier331 actually i mean 5mw that is the legal limit for sale in the us right? also these green lasers will have varying output depending on their physical temperature. I noticed that mine is unstable depending on the temperature. the warmer it is the brighter it gets.

  • @LoveAviation Your eye takes time to adjust to bright light, as the pupillary reflex is not instantaneous. You can still be dazzled for a time, such as if you accidentally look at the sun, and that can take seconds to minutes to resolve. In addition, eyes take up to 30 minutes to become fully sensitised in low light (e.g at night), but can be desensitised in a second.

And the way lasers work means they CAN damage the eye at long range, because they can deliver a high amount of focused energy.

  • @Dallas8844 ok thanks

  • How did i get on this? 1min ago i was watching jackass =S AAAAAAHHHH. Wierd side of youtube FTW!

  • 20 years haha lmao that sounds silly lol

  • these laser pens shouldn't be sold to kids how would these idiots feel if it was someone they cared about that was in the plane that crashed coz of one of them " playing" with a laser

  • I wonder what asshole would point a laser at an airliner on approach and endanger the lives of 200 people...

  • A Battlefield 3 player did this.

  • @PumaFau those lasers are so damn annoying

  • @PumaFau But this video was posted in 2009?

  • You think your funny don't you chuck norris?! :O

  • Pointing Laser to an airplane cocpit is a crime, that's should be punished! I don't have any understanding for such idiotism!

Laser auf ein Flugzeugcockpit zu richten ist gefährlich und höchstgradig kriminell, ich habe KEINE Verständis für Idioten, die so etwas machen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • These lasers need to be banned. The punishment is to tie the asshole who does this to a lawn chair with a hundred helium balloons and let him ascend about a thousand feet into the air and then begin to pop the balloons with a laser and terrify the shit out of him. But that might be a bit over the top and the ACLU might have issue with it I guess, freaking liberals.

  • I WAS ON THAT PLANE

  • @MsJBLoveStory really

  • @russianbeast23 YEEEP.

  • @MsJBLoveStory wow, did your plane take longer because of the laser?

  • imma firin mah lazor

  • @aquamilotic hahahah

  • if you point your laser at a plane your an asshole and making it harder to buy them.

  • @doggsht1 We don't care.

  • @doggsht1 yes, now i cant get lasers legally in my country over class 2... thats like 1mw at most.

  • @winky7575 I cant buy any lasers wich has another colour than red, So i craft them myself.
