  • do not forget doing restart.

  • it's software you just have two definition of mouse touche so remove one and it will be okay.

  • I ordered this laptop with the i7 and 6GB of memory last night. Hopefully I don't have any problems... god knows I paid enough for it (On a uni budget..)

  • So many retarded comments here.

  • mine is fine

  • @rlombardo1998 well YOURS is not HIS. I have an N5110 on its way to me but why would I let that cloud my judgement? After seeing this, the plausibility of the unit having a faulty track-pad has risen! I still have faith in Dell, though.

  • i have it for 2 years and i didnt find any problem with the trackpad

  • Mines worse. It jumps around everywhere. Works when you hit it

  • I dont know. I tried to reinstall my touchpad drivers and it is the same again. It is the 7.1209.101.204 version. Is there any other version? Which one do you use?

  • Mine one is 7.1209.101.204 which is latest, had the same problem. Don't know but it seems that it is latest driver problem or some software conflicts and not the hardware problem. but not 100% sure about this.

  • Is the problem with the dell (alps) touch pad driver or AC adapter or the touch pad itself ? i don't understand but after uninstalling the dell touch pad driver, the touch pad work perfect in any scenarios whether it is plugged in or not.

  • I have the same problem!! I have n5110 red and.. I disable Dell touch pad and now its working fine but I cant use drag or zoom functions

  • I also have this problem. Reinstalled my drivers and it is the same again. I have noticed that there is a diference when a laptop is on its adapter and when its not. Sometimes it works very fine sometimes not. I dont believe that the problem is in the OS, i think it is a hardware fault.

  • I bought the i7 laptop last week, my problem is not as bad as yours but the tochpad is very inaccurate,, judders and misses things all the time..

  • I read in the comments that some people think that this is a lie?

No, this is no lie! This is a real problem!

It is obvious that the error was made in serial production, there are

many people with the same failure on a laptop.

I do not want to talk bad about Dell, I love this brand, and this is

the first time that I have a problem with their product.

My laptop is under warranty, next week I will take it to DELL authorized

    service.

I hope that Dell's authorized service, be up to the task.

  • I have the same problem with my Dell Inspiron n5110.

When I turn on my laptop, almost always at the beginning of using laptop, touchpad is working properly.

But as time goes on touchpad reacts less to movements, to the point where completely stop responding.

I tried to reinstall OS, I installed the latest drivers and all updates, but

    nothing changed.

I am quite sure that this is not a software error, this is a hardware failure!

  • buy mouse

  • I had my Dell N5110 built in July 2011...acts same as yours...after the laptop has been on a couple of hours, it only gets worse...finally gets to the point where the cursor is frozen. I now use a mouse and have the touchpad disabled...so I can use the laptop....but I feel that Dell owes me a replacement.

  • Had same problem with Inspiron n5110 as shown in this video, All i did is uninstalled the Dell touch pad driver and it is working now with native driver windows 7. Now no such problem persist in my laptop. Is this a proper solution or i need to get replace the touch pad as it is under warrant bought just 2 month age, so that i can get the dell touch pad features.

  • @truck2112yes dude can u tell me the model number of the Dell inspirion 15r 3rd gen???

  • @TheGunit47 maybe "people creating like that" (??) because there is a legitimate problem, as I can attest too. I am working on this model computer as we speak and did not google "track pad problems" because I wanted to be a part of an underground fictitious problem club than many seem to have joined before me...........

  • Never buy ANYTHING From DELL Again! i am using my dell laptop i got in september and week later the trackpad stopped working!

  • Mine works perfect :)

  • there is a fix for this, you have to turn some features off in the control panel, eg zoom, scroll etc.

  • I got a new Dell Latitude E6410 at work last week. I had the same problem. Our tech guy came and replaced the touchpad and the associated board. It worked okay for an hour or two, then started doing the same thing again. I tried Dell's "fix" -- which is the only thing I could find on their site. (Reset some speed and sensitivity controls.) It didn't help at all. I'm going to recommend that our very large order go to someone else in the future.

  • Let me guess dell technical support, foreign Indians (no disrespect) its like they are just reading from a manual.

  • I had the same problem. Fixed it, simply by deleting Dell trackpad drivers. It worked perfectly using default windows drivers.

  • not the end of the world buy a mouse

  • mines 2 i press the fn+f3 key and it temporarly clears it up

  • What I would do to fix it for the time being is press the gears button (settings) and turn off the touchpad 2-3 times and turn it back on. Touchpad works okay after that. It gets really annoying having to do it though.

  • I have the same problem can anyone tell me that after replacing the trackpad will it work fine or also fail after few day like dell inspiron 1545. and i have noticed that when i instal alps driver it acts like crazy but when i uninstall the dirver and the laptop by default installs PS/2 compatible mouse it works fine.

  • I have the same exact problem. This is the last Dell craptop I will be buying. How does something like this get past QA?

  • I too sometimes have that problem. it comes and goes. another problem i have is the cursor jumps around when typing and i think i know why. when i rest my palms in front of the keyboard (not touching the touch pad) and type. that little bit of pressure seems to push down around the touch pad making the cursor jump around. i think it is a major hardware fault rather than updating drivers. dell n5110 is a piece of shit!

  • when I connect a utp cable, the touchpad hangs, and the moment I disconnect it, the touchpad works fine, try it

  • eu comprei dois notebooks deste modelo no Brasil e estou com o mesmo problema. ao tirar do carregador, o touchpad fica melhor, mas está não está funcionando corretamente.

I bought two notebooks of this model in Brazil and I'm having the same problem. to get the AC Power, the touchpad is better, but is not working properly.

  • it happends some times on mine too when is useing the battery

  • got same problem :(

  • Bought my dell few days ago and today I've noticed same situation.Thought that it may be something with computer so I connected mouse on usb and was working good.I restarted my computer and after that everything was ok. My old Acer has this problem, but just when was heated up after long day of using. Checked my driver and they are up to date.

  • We did install all the updated. drivers We also had DELL support remote into the laptop for 2 hours to uninstall and reinstall all of the drivers to no avail. I did in fact turn out to be a hardware fault, once the DELL engineer replaced the trackpad all was well and it worked with the previously install driver just fine.

  • why didnt u try and update the trackpad a.k.a touchpad drivers from the dell website?

i have the 2nd gen i5 n5110 and no such problems in mine -.-

  • why didnt u try and update the trackpad a.k.a touchpad drivers from the dell website?

  • After a fair bit of back a fourth Dell eventually sent an on-site engineer, he fitted a new trackpad to the laptop and all has been well ever since.

I suspect they had a large batch of failures, we had 2 in a row, you've had 5 ...where will it end?

@jarrayda - no the problem persisted on battery and AC power.

  • If you disconnect the AC adaptor i bet the trackpad works fine yeah?

  • how did you go with this? we just bought 5 of these models at my work place, had the same issues with all 5. Dell sent new replacements, same issue with the replacement. Lol @ Dell.
