Hi I see you know what you are doing, I'm starting out and have seen the Quicksilver alot , but I like these Kolb's , for the fact they seem more like a flying plane and also they have a bug sheald. Do you think they are good for beginners or do you think another one wou
@mrkongsimr These are in fact great first airplanes. Get some quality training and you will find the Kolb aircraft very safe and great performing aircraft...
I've enjoyed your video so much - and looking forward to watching all your other ones. Could you tell me how much this plane costs and what kind of licence do i have to have? Thanks for posting.
I haven't flown my 503 mk3 since '01. Just sittin' in the garage. Watching this & others on youTube sure gives me the itch. I can see where the Firestar is probably the best. But then again, is there a bad Kolb?
The 912 is the way to go. Plenty of reserve power. My 503 was out of its' league at 850 lb gross. Solo, (me 185 lb) it flew quite nice, I could even throttle back a fair amount. A testament to the clean design.
I was considering the Jab 2200 also but I read so many times that it lacks elasticity and throttle response. Plus the gentleman in this video here is the one who infected me with the Kolb virus in the first place, made the good point that it is the more common engine on lightsport aircraft after all
Thanks. It was nice to talk with many people that recognized my Kolb from Youtube at Sun n Fun. The return flight was a little over 7 hours with many unforgettable sights...
I think I recognize you and the "naked" Kolb from sun n fun 09 at paradise city and I spoke to you for about 5 minutes at your camp site. I watched you depart from field some time sat morning and I hope you had a enjoyable return. There are not too many aircraft that actually look good without covering but the kolb looks very good uncovered and you can clearly see the robustness of the "crash cage".
You make flying an ultralight seem relaxing and effortless. It's good to see you promoting this not only in the US but in other countries. Keep up the good work!
Great video, Kip. Reminds me of Don G's old video "Around the Patch" in his Flagfly. I only wish the quality was better so that I could watch how you handle the controls more closely....very smooth.
lookiing at this I just thought about situation of hot summer day with moderate turbulence and same gasoline tanks. Is it safe?

I don't think there is a bad Kolb at all.
I am building an Mk III Xtra and it's going to have the 912.

God knows what a 912 costs these days (let alone a 914) but it's a quality piece. Hope to see it on youTube. Best regards.

I can tell you it's not cheap. I'll have to buy one sometime next year...

Thanks for the comment. I wish the quality were better too. I'll get the shakes down by tightening up the mount and try again...
