So the percapita income only doesn't show us the level of life in a nation, that why the UN measures the level of life with HDI but money is very important. Brazil and Mexico manages a lot of money because their big population but if you divide that money between that big population Chile owns them. Though Australia has less money they are stronger than Mexico (45000US$ against 13200US$) and could invade it and dominates as Japan made with China. There is no small nations only small minds.

There are slowed down countries with a lot of money percapita and there are advanced contries with high HDI and relative low percapita index. For example South Korea and Israel are more advanced than any countries and that's why their percapita income is high 28,000US$ with 94% of HDI and countries like Equatorial Guinea has 36,000US$ and only 70% of human development index because is rich in oil reserves and has very small population but has a tirany so the money is not for the people.

i guess this ranking is based on per capita or the distribution of wealth on its population, the huge population of india is the reason why its not the wealthiest in south asia though india is the most advanced country in south asia.While brunei has a very small population but has a huge oil reserve, so if u divide the earnings of brunei govt toits population, then definitely, it is the richest, not only in ASEAN, but in ASIA as a whole..correct me if im wrong...tnx!!!

The list is a political manipulative instrument. The best way of knowing if a country is rich or poor is by physically travelling to the country and seeing for yourself.

Brazil is the richest in South America in nominal GDP by far. Chile is in per capita GDP. Brazil has a way bigger population.
