  • Pretty awesome. I would love to see what he's written for a brass quartet.

  • fucking awesome.

where can i get the score for it?

  • @chungy2552

    ostimusic. com

  • @tyforquer

thanks, but how do i get the hard copy?

it won't let me print it and i can't seem to find a link to purchase it...

  • @chungy2552

Looks like there's no direct link, you probably have to e-mail John Mackey. Just click on "contact" then use the address listed for purchase requests.

  • @tyforquer oh really? allright, so just ask him if i could purchase it in the e-mail? cool, thanks a lot!

  • djembe is the shit but it hurts ur fingers like mine are now lol

  • this song is soo cool!!

    very good job! :)

  • Thanks for checking out the video!

  • Like, OMG! This is like the coolest song EVAH! I love it. How did you do those neat slap tongouses? Did it hurt? Im dancin right now LOL!

  • You're a jerk. ;-)

  • Boo not saxophones. It's called a sax quartet for a reason.

  • Exactly Daylen. Anyway. Great job. and I love the guy grooving on the Soprano!

  • It was originally written as the Sax Quartet with djembe

Then John Mackey got famous and wanted more money so he released the piece for Wind Ensemble, just as most composers do.

  • Actually originally written for electric string quartet and djembe, then re-arranged for band, then for sax quartet as a gift to the H2 Quartet.

I think it's less about making money, and more about creating more opportunities for different groups to play his pieces. The money thing can't hurt though.

  • Fair enough, can't say I wouldn't do the same thing.

Also, I'm not saying that it doesn't sound FREAKING AWESOME in concert band. But the fact remains, he wrote one version, then another.

  • Also, sax quartet sounds the best :D

  • @tyforquer I met John Mackey last week when he came to clinic our band (my ensemble is performing Aurora Awakes while another ensemble is performing Strange Humors arranged for Wind Ensemble. A percussion ensemble is also performing Damn and Mass). We got to have a Q&A session and one of the questions asked was if he enjoys arranging his pieces for other types of ensembles. He said that he generally does not but if there is enough demand he will do it.

  • @FeLiX13sLaVe Cool. Thanks for the insight. I imagine most composers would rather create something new than re-arrange something they've already written.

  • how do you slap tongue like that??!!

  • 4:23. I want to convince my band director to let me play this solo :D I can play it better than the trombone anyway..

  • oh hai

def should be a bari solo kthx

  • That is NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!

  • 4:23.... YESSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • We are doing the full arrangement of this piece for our Symphonic Band this year for UIL. I really like this, seeing as how I'm the tenor player ;). I really want to play this with our quartet, who already did Viva La Vida. Only problem would be we'd need a percussionist.

  • It's a fun piece. The percussion part isn't too tricky if the player has some hand drumming experience. Good luck with everything!

  • We can do it next year...this piece sounds TIGHT

  • AMAZING

  • I love this song, and ya'll did a nice job. The soprano is really nice sounding, and the bari. Other than matching issues and the congo being sometimes louder than ya'll, it was very well done.
