  • haaaaaay!!!

  • 1986-1996 best of RnB

  • RnB really died in late 90s.

  • @qwandiddy early 1990s

  • @incdogrobber Yes, I'll change to that. It actually started dying after early 1994. So you are 100% correct, Thanks a bunch!!!

  • Yes i agree i miss that era, life was beautiful as well as the music!

  • this is when music meant something.damn where in the hell did all the classic VOICES go? there's a few artist today who are cool, but 80% of them are just horrible when it comes to singing.there is no way on this planet you cannot love this type of music. alot of the youngsters today don't take the time out to listen to true r&b like this. their so caught up into the shitty ass rap & fake r&b that has no substance, passion, creativity, meaning ect.. when will music like this ever come back?

  • blowin' out the speakers with the long version of this jam from 1987.

  • VIDEO MUSIC BOX chanel 31 at 3pm..... that was my JAM 86-87

  • This was my jam!!! And I thank Melba Moore because she was responsible for Lillo, Kashif and Freddy Jackson putting out their albums and she didn't get her recognition as a producer.

  • This was my jam!!! And I thank Melba Moore because

  • Remember this on the video jukebox in a pub i used to visit in my town (just outside London) in 1987 - it was always a popular choice with the drinkers in there.

  • I've loved this song since 1987 when it was released. But I didn't know until now that Lillo Thomas sang it, not Kashif. Wow. Thanks for posting this cut...

  • @wmadoro.... I'm pretty sure Kashif produced the album. Its got that Classic Kashif sound!.

  • @wmadoro I can believe Kashif produce this song.

  • Wish I could turn back time - the 80s was the best

  • Who in the hell did the beats for this song? Ass-kiching for real!!!

  • @ introd27: that's where I first met him...my wife at the time and I went to a party @ Bentley's and he was there. I had a brief moment to chat with him. A short time after I met him that night, was when he got in the awful car accident in Brazil......

  • All of Lillo's music is on itunes.

  • I remember this guy's name, I KIND of remember this song.....

Maybe he sang OTHER songs I would be more familiar with.....

  • Music of today needs to learn from music of yesterday, there's still alot missing. Do the work and become a bit better.

  • Jeez...I love this tune. I bought it on the day it was released in 1987 on 12". Reminds me of saturday nights at The Warehouse in Leeds.

  • Can't believe I just found the actual video to this jam.Thx 4 posting this great old school joint here.

  • Usain Bolt dusted his record by a damn lot lol.

I can never get enough of this song. I imagined the video being Lillo in the jungle and some trible playing the drums and doing the DUM DUM DUM DUM sound haha. and the babe is the one that needs to be rescued.

  • THE DAYS

  • new jack,baybee!

  • The 80s had some really strong singers man i miss the 80s

  • You are very correct. Singers in the 80's possessed real talent and showmanship.

  • Yup..there....and L.A......

  • I remember watching Video Music Box from like '84 to '88...it used to come on at 8pm, if I am not mistaken...it was the pretty much the only place you'd see these type of videos. "Good evening and welcome to Video Music Box...this is your DJ...Ralph McDaniels" I will remember that voice forever! The 80s in NYC area was a glorious time for music, I do believe. So glad I lived through it.

  • me and you both!!!

  • Lillo was on top of the world then!

Forget Carmen Sandiego! Where in the world is Lillo Thomas?!!!

  • Before Ne-yo rocked the hat/blazer outfits, Lillo rocked it from way back then!

    THIS IS MUCH LOVE HERE.

  • Wow Video Music Box!!!!!! Channel 31 NYC!!!!

  • He held the WORLD record at age 16. HAd it not been for the American boycott of the 80 games, Lillo would have been an Olympian...maybe a Gold medalist.

  • And so would Houston Mctear.

  • I ran HS track in Brooklyn in the early-1980s, and I still haven't figured out if this is the same Lillo Thomas who once held the NYS HS junior record for 220 yards at 21.1 in the late-1970s. This happens to be his biggest hit, reaching #2 on the R&B charts.

  • Yes indeed this is the same Lillo! He ran for Berriman (64) in Brooklyn!!

  • omg... I have been looking for this song for a minute.....great post....really takes me back!!

  • Its still possible to buy this LP form many of the secondary merchants at Amazon. I just bout one the other day...very clean and inexpensive.

  • OMG, this amazing song had a music video! Favorting this RIGTH AWAY. niceeee. good for any 20 year old like me who needs pump up tunes.

  • ALL 3 Lillo albums are FINALLY available on iTunes. 2 are under Lillo Thomas and 1 under Lillo. Just saw it yesterday

  • I've always loved how the melody (the brass section specifically) steps up at the end of each verse. I don't think I've heard that technique anywhere since.

Lilo was a Kashif product, yes?

  • No, Paul Lawrence, but I'm sure all of them have crossed paths from time to time....

  • They were all under THE MIGHTY M PRODUCTIONS that produced for lilo melba elyln keith washington and others says..uzi polo-king of decatur

  • High school days.

  • Video music Box with Ralph McDaniels the good ol days ah yes I remember it well.

  • Memories,memories,memories.....

  • Aiight everybody...let's do the cabbage patch! *lol*

  • Men and women boys and girls, this song is one of the great tunes off one of CLASSIC Soul albums of the 1980's. Drop the bickering and just listen.

  • How in the hell does a discussion of race, Jesse Jackson, and Obama make it's way on a comment section for a Lilo Thomas vid? DAMN!!!!! Just enjoy the fuckin' video!!!!!

  • thank you!

  • I'm glad somebody said it. People need to lighten the hell up. Thank you.

  • You're welcome lifesaver72. We just went through 2 years of political crap. When I watch Lilo Thomas vids, I want to think back not read about an Obama victory, Jesse Jackson's mental stability, or whatever else was said.

  • Cool 80's song thanks for this

  • damn what you bamas know about Ralph McDaniels.

Video Music Box was that shit...3:30pm every afternoon after school, y'all!!!

Damn Lillo, this is when light-skinned was murdering Black women. Jajajajajaja!

  • Black is beautiful!

  • Oh AirJor1, dead that! All ya that say Black is beautiful don't know fuck-all about unifying without gossiping/backstabbing.

So K.I.M. with that "Jesse Jackson-He-didn't-think-Obama-could-have-done-it-Oh-now-there's-Hope" syndrome.

  • Just keep shaking your fat ugly racist behind to Lilo Thomas. Barack will be an excellent president, and maybe you need to ask Jesse Jackson to help you with your mental problem.

  • You don't know whether I'm fat or not, hijo de puta.

Jesse Jackson has the mental problem because he had no faith in Obama when Obama was campaigning until he became President-Elect. So how would I have somebody biased like that giving me help??

If this were face-to-face, I'd probably fly over and give your shit an eye jammie.

  • Okay, Jesse Jackson has a mental problem, so what is your excuse? And I bet you have a big behind and fat hips. That's nothing to be ashamed of.

  • I don't know WHAT EITHER of you two are talking about, as BOTH Jesse Jackson AND Barack Obama make me PROUD to be black, just as much as this classic song by Lillo makes me PROUD to turn my back on the mess on the radio today. I suggest you two take your words to another video post, and let the REST of us enjoy this great song and video!

  • Yes, I'am also proud of Barack Obama, so keep dancing and save your speech for your children/grandchildren. And please, keep the music down and don't disturb your neighbors. airjor1, Sacramento, Ca.

  • Marcus, re-read the first sentence. I'm sure your moms raised you to know that if you don't understand what somebody [else] is talking about, then don't comment on it.

    Silly AmeriKKKans.

Anyway, Lillo has his first new album in over 20 years. Go check it out in Amazon and/or CD Universe.

  • They all wanted to modulate they voices like MJ ...:)anyways ...and Kashif

  • Damn LILLO Was Too Smooth. Amazing 80's Groovez.

  • Ahhh!!!! Lillo's doin' "The Snake"!!! Go boy!

  • Give me Lillo and THIS video ANYDAY over the shit that's on BET, MTV, radio today

  • does anyone have the complete video?

  • Damnnn bring me back to the 70's & 80's music and take me away from todays so called CRAP for music!!!

  • This was the cut, you all! It made it to #1 on the Black/Urban charts in 1987 and #2 on the Billboard R&B charts. These are one of many songs that made my summer in 1987!

  • That was the shite back in the day! Love the 80's!! Thank YOU!

  • The music back then had class & soul - nothing to compare these days - yes im an 39 yr old dj who is stuck in the 80's soul , rap , dance era - ONLY PLACE TO BE - big love to all soul casualties & thank you so much for posting !!!

  • You're right regarding the title. I though the same. This is a bad ass jam.

  • Yes it is.

  • OK-Me Too!!! LOL

  • Love this song too!! Such a great tune to dance to! thanks again for posting it!

  • I'm with you on this!!!

  • Bad Kreuznach, Germany, Summer of "87"!

  • I'm a dummy. I thought Kashif sang this song well now I know. Oh yeah and you know it..... this was the "Soul Train" banger. They used to get stupid to this on that line - pop, lock and drop it.... 80's style with the echo percussion. I think some people still collectin disability from tryin to do the snake or wop to this.

  • Don't feel bad..I totally forgot who sang this song until I downloaded it on limewire. Then I said OHHHHHH..how could I forget about Lillo Thomas. This song is a bonafide classic.

  • Theres a lot of similarity because Kashif collaborated on some of his stuff back then. You will hear a little of Kashif, Freddie Jackson, Lillo, Paul Laurence Jones III flavor because they were all in the same "stable" of producers and songWRITERS back then. Kashif actually produced his first album I believe.

  • thats right from the production team THe MIGHTY M Productions which was them they were the shit in the 80's produced for evlyn melba keith washington among others says uzi polo-king of decatur
