I would be interested in hear exactly what Prof Roy *would* cut, given California's shambolic fiscal condition. Roads? Primary education? Welfare? Police? Fire?
Her critique about the explosive growth in upper management has merit. I think she has assessed a lot of the problems, but solutions are harder to come by.
What a gas bag BrahminAnanya is...Bet this skank gets a Ford Foundadion grant within a month. Where did she get her accent? Will she shake the hand of an untouchable. Her marriage arranged? From her tenured post she is so concerned....how touching...NOT.
Why did Ananya Roy come to teach in UC Berkeley? US universities are charging huge amounts of money for education for a long time. Why are we hearing murmurs of protest from the teachers now?
Please consider these reasons for a starter (due to word limit!). 1. For public universities, it's partly about declining funding from states which are losing money due to the "small government" policy in the last 3 decades. 2. Universities try to create a better image. One way is to constantly update facilities/dorms and to have a football and other sports teams. Some coaches are paid more than presidents. But, most universities lose money.
