Our mini dachshund Sawyer crying in the car

I heard an expert say that Dachshunds don't like the car because it's uncofortable for them with their little short legs, plus they're burrowers and he suggested putting the dog in a small kennel with blankets so he could just snuggle. I have a Dachshund mix and she is SO GOOD in the car in her little cage and bed - she just goes right to sleep...

D: I never understood this, all the dachschunds I know hate the car exept for mine. I go: "Reeses, wanna go in the car? Car?" Then I dangle my keys in front of her and she bolts for the front door. And when I open that she runs for the drivers' side and scratches until I open it and she jumps in. Then she takes her place on the passenger side and is happy as a clam. We dont even need to move and she loves it :P strange doggy.

I love my Doxie, he's a whiner too. Especially if Momma has a snack at the couch. When he wants a taste he will whine and if he doesn't get a taste he'll let out a loud bark that almost makes my Wife drop whatever she's eating. He has become much bolder as he's gotten older. Doxie's just make you want to spoil them. We love ours like a real child.

My Dachshund cries like that for no reason i think its a breed thing they all yelp and make weird piggy noises when they are scared, confused, want something (attention) or when they want to be held. Mine is 1 1/2yrs old and she still does it something lil whinner.

Hmm... Well first of all that thing's so cute!

Although my dachshund is usually pretty excited during car rides. xD He's like any other dog and tries staring out the window. Of course we're too scared to let him stick his head out.

Really nervous dogs annoy me. My parents have a mini dauchsand and he's really nervous and needs to be played with constantly... I wish they would have just bought another dog so he had someone to play with.

@lasoogneypubes Another dog is not the solution. You just have to train the dog to get used to it. In other words, ride more often with him/her. My first Mini Doxie was also like this--even worse, while crying and clinging onto me, she would throw up all over me. But I got her to be used to it and now she sleeps on my lap whenever I take her for a ride.
