Erasure never broke up. Andy's solo career is similar to Dave Gahan doing stuff in between Depeche Mode albums. Andy and Vince are working on new material as we speak :)

Strikon - I think the other side of the coin is when you have an openly gay artist like Andy Bell - his music will tend to have a gay message or theme on occasion. Having said that - I'm also as straight as an arrow and grew up on Freddie Mercury, Bowie, Erasure, Depeche Mode etc and firmly believe that good music is good music - it doesnt matter who sings it. I had the pleasure of seeing Erasure live in the 80's in London and what a night that was - incredible!!!

watching this video, i can see the relevance to HIV- its very clever. the white men looking for a way out are the white t-cells in the body and the black figures are the nasty HIV cells looking to infect the cell. I think the backdraft of fire are the anti-virals coming in to destroy the HIV cells referring to his medication. The structure of the building is a t-cell. Watch it again...well done andy! Genius!

But the building doesn't look like a T-cell (they are blobby and round). Rather, the building and the artistic style are a pretty clear allusion to the Master Control Program from TRON. The "map" which is in the elevator looks like that face, and it also looks like a Hasse diagram [see wikipedia]

When fox-wearer gets in the elevator and pushes the "Bell" button he becomes Andy Bell, hmm..

The songs avoid gender specific pronouns, and are mostly kept vague enough that someone outside of the gay community wouldn't recognize any innuendo. If you didn't know that Andy is gay, you were probably just listening to the songs.

Andy has always been VERY obviously gay in concerts and most videos. The only way that I can think of that they ramped up 'the gay' is that Andy cut his hair short and started working out more after he caught HIV. He's certainly not wearing a dress like he used to.
