Same as "1981Badfish" my Dad was into this but in my case mom was with it too. When getting older i always recognised a track by melody as i thought it was the first time i played it i knew what was comming.. probably when i was an embryo this went as "echoes" trough moms little belly ;)
So in this case i'm born with.. and this is THE track that will be played when i leave/left this earth.. Doesn't matter if it's the live or studio version..
Thanks to my father, I grew up with this, even though I was only born in 81. Still today, I can't help listening to it again and again. There're so much things and feelings that come to me at the same time, I just don't know how to express them all, like my heart was about to explode... Am I listening to the voice of God ?

Jesus is the only hope of salvation from the guilt of sin. He is God come in the flesh. And he came to wash away our sins with his blood that he shed on the cross. Salvation is a free gift, but you must repent and ask Jesus to save you from your sins and come into your heart. God is good. It is written, "The just shall live by his faith."

@wallfootballplayer (Left-Right) Roger Waters(Bass,Vocalist) David Gilmour(Guitarist,Vocalist) Nick Mason(Drummer,Tape Mixer and Editor,my personal favorite :D) Richard "Richard" Wright(Vocalist,Organist/Pianist).
I used to think that this is the end of the exploration of the cave under Oak Island (Atlantis): the burial chamber in which the King of Atlantis, king of harmony and spiritual majesty, proudly walked to go and sit on his throne in order to die solemnly. It's a novel by Italian journalist and writer Mino Milani and I find it fits perfectly with this music (also the drums of this song remember me the pendulum, the big watch-tower that is the main monument in the novel plot).
Pink Floyd, the prophets, the poets, the philosophers, the pioneers, producers of peace. The impossible made possible. High spirits, summoners of universal sympthony, savoir of humanity.

The end sounds a little bit too "grandiose", but it's was OK for us; nothing could equal that cry like a hope... The beginning is closer to the mystery of our generation.
Now, I'm gonna say it, Elephant in the room, I don't like Dark Side, personally that and the Wall aren't a patch on the early era Floyd, Barrett was a great writer during Floyd's early days, and in my opinion, Piper is their best album, and this stuff is also their best work, along with "Let's all make love in London".
Mescaline was the big thing right then, and they had a big screen behind them with kalidescopic colors moving, and I'd never heard anything so loud and yet so grand , when I was 16, in 1970, at the Electric Factory, in Philadelphia!!!
@GlenTip10 ....he does look like the western idea of "Jesus".....but i would imagine that if Jesus was real ..he probably would have looked a lot more like people from that part of the world....not an Englishman or American lol

I want to lead a somber procession to this song. It would be me, in a fine, royal white floor-length fur coat with authentic animal print detail on the cuffs and inside. I will have a very regal crown of sorts atop my brain. I will have a council and we will all be half-mad, but full of magic and wonder and wise, very wise. We will walk in this unending Winter, through a clearing in the forest, where I will pass around a vessel, full of rich red wine, served in pewter, until we lay down, drunk.
I dont know anything about i pods. when i was in school we listened to this stuff on record players and cassette tapes. and dropped a ton of acid. 85-90
if you do, be very careful. i remember coming to in places i was not in when i started, both literally and figuratively. floyd seems to have that effect, even without acid.
best have some headphones and a travel agent. and stay indoors.(unless its snowing. snow has a way of making rules go away. and you older folks will remember 'travel agents')
Originally known as "The Massed Gadgets of Hercules" What we hear are the last two structures of a the four part theme. part #3: Storm Signal (represents the view of the dead after the battle has ended) and part #4: Celestial Voices (representing the mourning of the dead). ---- Part #1: Something Else represents the setup of the battle and Part #2: Syncopated Pandemonium represents the actual battle. These were all based from their 1969 tour The Man and His Journey. Peace. LONG LIVE SYD!!!!
@2kuul4u This IS the Ummagumma version. If you have the CD, you have it. This part begins at about 7 min of the complete song, which lasts about 12 min.
I dont want to sound like a little bitch but. Music scares me now a days and some of the stupid ass people. It feels like such great music turned to crap in like seconds and that great music just won't come back. And what's sad is that, there's people who play music for the joy of it, and there's more people that play music for the money and fame. And that fucking bugs me a bit. Most famous people out there in this world suck dick for money basically, and they'll do w/e for that money/fame.
I remember that saucerful of secrets ummagumma-version is wich has choir singing this melody? This is version is just live performance. Or does my mind play tricks..
I used to end every drinking session with this song..lights out, eyes closed and my life would pass before my eyes in the most beautiful and surreal way and then I would wake up and go eat frozen pizza and let my dog out to pee and wish I was sitting in the ancient ruins of Pompeii instead of anytown USA.
@bughead3 What you just said is dark and mysterious. I feel like it embodies those people you see walk by or standing by themselves with that look in their eyes that lets you know theres something more underneath. like a person who truly believe in his miserable existence that is life. like the start of some sad movie man.
This song deserves much more attention! For most people Pink Floyd starts with DSOTM. I Discovered this song a year ago and i couldn't believe that I never heard it before. Absolutely Brilliant!
New Floyd starts with DSOTM,but dark side isn't their only album.Piper at gates of dawn,Saucerful of secrets,Ummagumma,Atomheart mother,Meddle are perfect albums.Everybody starts with dark side because it is easy for listening. For example, just few people talk about their album Animals.Animals is maybe their best thing they did,but people doesn't like it.i don't know why.
Of the 4 versions I know of this masterpiece, the original 1968 Saucerful of secrets album, the ummagumma double album, the Kralingen concert and the Pompei recording, I like this one best and by far above all others. Keyboards, bass, drums, guitar and vocals are ALL absolutely stunning and incredibly powerful. My period vinyl I played over and over is quite used, and this adds hard
and rough feeling to this extraordinary piece of music.

I can't find this version on iTunes or on the Ummagumma CD I received recently...where would I come across it?
2kuul4u 1 year ago

CSXV 1 year ago
